I wonder if a drone has hit Dubai Marina. Or whether it was just
debris from a successful interception.

If only loads of Dubai based accounts, including Isabel Oakeshott's, could tell me.

Nothing to see here.

Suspicious Mona Lisa GIF by Parks and Recreation

Hmmm, I'm suspicious a drone may actually have hit Dubai Marina.

I wonder if Oakeshott is regretting her life choices?

Where she lives or who she lives with?

I doubt it, and certainly doubt it would be admitted even to her closest friends if it were the case.

I think that might be missiles, not stars.

It is so useful!

The polls are showing a little bounce for Labour.

Not bad going for mid term in Parliament.

How appalling that the Spudbros in Preston are having to justify staying open later during Ramadan for their Muslim customers 😔

Surely they're a business and they can stay open for as long as the council allows them. Some people do lead sad little lives.

It’s a business that’s willing to adapt to maximise profits. Surely that’s a positive?

RelativisticJet · 08/03/2026 15:45

By halting this year’s £18bn rise in welfare spending, we would have enough for ~15 new destroyers.

Or, reinstate the two-child benefit cap, and you would have enough for 20,000 new troops.

Food for thought, perhaps.

They are a small independent business too, if my googling is correct? If I lived in Preston I'd buy a spud or two to show support.

Yep. Have thought about it. Still prefer to act to give help to those who need it, and to prevent child poverty in the UK.

It's also not either/or.

One might also question why, in the future, children who had grown up in unsafe housing or with insufficient clothing/food (because of benefit cuts) should want to risk their lives for this country. Especially if people with lots of money don't want to spend any of that (through taxes) on paying for defence. It's all rule Britannia from the Daily Telegraph brigade but if asked to pay for it through taxes they threaten to take their money and go elsewhere. On the other hand we just assume those 20,000 extra troops you reference would be prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice.

Food for thought.

Duriing January it rained a lot and the water came through the bottom of my front door.

So I've prioritised spending on a new one, composite, to keep out the rain and the draughts.

What colour have you chosen?

Notonthestairs · 08/03/2026 16:39

We had the two child cap under the Conservative government.
In that period army personnel was reduced from 100,000 to 75,000.
