I loved Women's Hour when Jenni hosted it. Such a lovely woman who took no nonsense, but was kind and empathetic. RIP x

Interesting article in the FT regarding Reform’s head of policy James Orr and the right co-opt of Christianity

https://bsky.app/profile/henrymance.ft.com/post/3mhkwbt2nis2q

James Orr is doing performative miserableness on behalf of all women, even though the majority of them don't consent.

Notonthestairs · 21/03/2026 11:49

It’s their connections to the US right I’m interested in. A lot of money in performing for them.

Which is why I was interested in the attempt to connect Trafalgar Square services to being free to pray in front of women attending abortion centres.

It's constant and backed with a huge amount of money. It smacks of "women unchaining themselves from the kitchen sink and having less babies and taking over our rightful male ownership of well paid jobs.

BIossomtoes · 21/03/2026 14:00

That Orr is a seriously nasty piece of work. This is the real threat to women’s rights.

I was really sad to hear Jenni Murray’s gone too. Too soon.

Piggywaspushed · 21/03/2026 14:07

Dr James Orr at that.

He referred to the UK provision for abortion as "an extreme abortion regime" FFS.

Bore da! 🌞

The Tories continue to swill about in the sewer. This time the chief whip, Rebecca Harris, has been reposting videos made by a convicted anti-semite and Islamophobe (and of whom certain mumsnetters are very big fans). Will Badenoch be cheerleading this as she has been with Timothy?

Tory chief whip reposts AI video created by far-right figure who was jailed for hate crimes

Exclusive: Rebecca Harris promotes latest Crewkerne Gazette skit, created by Joshua Bonehill-Paine who says he is Tory member

"Bonehill-Paine, who has a prior conviction for assaulting a police officer and burglary of a police station, was convicted in 2014 of malicious communications over an anti-Islam hoax that led to death threats against the owners of a pub in Leicester.
He was jailed in 2015 for more than three years after posting “vile” antisemitic material online ahead of a planned neo-Nazi rally.
In 2016, he was found guilty of racially aggravated harassment for abuse directed at the then Labour MP Luciana Berger, who is Jewish, which included posting messages to his blog calling Berger “a rodent”, “evil money-grabber” His past far-right activity include being the founder and leader of the National British Resistance, a far-right group."

He sounds lovely.

Man jailed for posting antisemitic material ahead of 'Jewification' rally

Joshua Bonehill-Paine, 23, has been jailed for three years and four months over ‘vile’ and ‘inflammatory’ publication

Remarkable that Rebecca Harris doesnt want to distance herself from him.

So it turns out Reform are laundering their donations through crapto, before converting them into cash, hiding the original source of the money.

So who is really funding Nigel Farage and Reform UK?

I read that article - it seems like an obvious wheeze by Reform to have the payments processed outside of the UK in order to obfuscate who has donated.

Piggywaspushed · 22/03/2026 10:16

Has anyone watched the Manosphere documentary? They are all incredibly anti semitic. I think a rather entrenched view circulated is that only (and all) Muslims are anti semitic. That's not what I am seeing in reality. They only support Israel because Netanyahu is an alpha male and because they hate Muslims a bit more. Much of the stuff in that documentary is shocking but hearing a young British lad just shouting out 'fuck the Jews' in a street as some kind of fun 'clip' (in Marbella I believe) is horrific. They may not actually believe anything they say but it spreads.

It's also "edgy" in a really childish way to be anti-Semitic or to "troll" people by making jokes about the holocaust. I think it's partly a symptom of arrested development but it's also not harmless behaviour as you say.
A lot of ethno nationalist types support Israel because they are seeing it through am ethno nationalist lens. Not only Israel for the Jews but ALL the Jews should be made to go there. So they can be both anti-Semitic and pro Israel in their heads (not saying that's the case for most proIsrael people just those ones).
But yes, the people usually to the right (moderate and far) who want to pretend that antisemitism is a specifically Muslim problem are at best deluded. The "except the Jews" far right types want to pretend the "especially the Jews" far right don't exist/dont really mean it. They do. See how Ben Shapiro has been overtaken by Candace Owens, Fuentes etc.

Piggywaspushed · 22/03/2026 10:37

He may be mentioned at some point but he isn't featured. The one who gets most airtime in the doc is British. He is actaully a bit unsettling to watch as he is clearly not quite right is some undefinable way.

Wow. Thats an extraordinary stretch by them to square their beliefs.

Yes, I watched it and felt the same. In fact all of them seem to be not right in some way! I think some of them had traumatic childhoods.

Piggywaspushed · 22/03/2026 10:48

Yes, definitely.

Notonthestairs · 22/03/2026 10:54

I think all roads lead back to Tait.
There was a paper which spelt out the Manosphere connections Tait - Fresh&Fit - Sneako - Fuentes - Pearl Davies -Adin Ross.

The featured ‘influencers’ were both unintentionally hilarious in their lack of self awareness/logic and pretty terrifying. Theroux is so good at letting people talk and show themselves up. His calm is always impressive. I’ve seen lots of people on SM saying there’s only one ‘alpha’ in the documentary, and it’s Theroux.

He shares that with Maitlis. Her interview with Mountbatten Windsor was a masterclass in it. I don’t think I can stomach Manosphere, I’m getting a bit squeamish in my old age.
