Any movies or tv shows that got to the grand finally and you were like "what the actual fuck!"

Mine was Lost. Felt it was a rushed lazy ending.

I remember finishing the last episode and just staring at the tv, shouting “What the fuck was that??!!”

It was the ultimate let down.
I still think of Dot’s “urgent exit required” and Kate hanging off the side of the lorry as the most exciting bit of telly I have ever seen so having it all end with blimmin Buckells was an insult.

DramaAndBullshit · 01/03/2026 22:25

House of Dynamite, one of those films with no plot resolution. Just stops.

Hemlock Grove, too many of the wrong people died unnecessarily. Made me angry.

Game of Thrones, I wasn’t upset by most of the ending, I never believed Dany & Jon had any chemistry, and wasn’t surprised by her losing her grip on reality (she foretold fire & blood repeatedly) but the last season just felt so rushed, with so many anticlimactic scenes as a result.

Van Helsing, the tv series, another that was good almost all the way to the end and then the last season was dreadful. Even the SFX make up and the wigs looked like Asda Halloween costumes.

Stuff I lost interest in and didn’t finish:

Dexter, all that sleep deprivation nonsense when they had the baby, utterly stupid, just breastfeed and cosleep. Problem solved.

Nashville, Rayna died, and I just stopped caring about the other characters.

The 100: how many catastrophes and disasters can they throw at the characters. It became exhausting and frustrating to watch.

Fear The Walking Dead; started out so incredibly good until they decided to throw in a nuclear winter. Enough already.

Absentia; first series, great, second one just meh.

BlueEyedBogWitch · 01/03/2026 22:32

Wildviolet · 01/03/2026 20:33

I agree. Why, why ,why was there any need to have the fire??? It wasn’t even as if it was shown or referred to in any way which helped the plot.

They had to do it because the house burned down in real life, sadly.

Oh Series 3 was EPIC!!

That last “Urgent Exit Required” episode was phenomenal.

I remember the end of S1 when Tony Gates got slammed by that lorry. I still jumped at that whenever I rewatched it, despite knowing it was coming!

That S6 was just such a let down. I was waiting for the twatty Chief to be arrested, but no, I got fecking Buckells 🙄

Another really disappointing book ending: Five Go Off in a Caravan. After the Five have written a long letter to their parents telling them of the exciting happenings, the moment the villains have been caught and the danger is all over, the Five receive a telegram from home telling them that where they are sounds dangerous, and to come home at once (a journey which takes several days, when they have only been there a few days). I bet they never told their parents about any "exciting happenings" after that! It was precisely the sort of sudden death ending I remember being told not to write in stories at primary school, such as "I woke up and it was all a dream".

Lots of people think the epilogue to Harry Potter was awful: Harry and his children go to Hogwarts, and nothing has changed for the better: still the rivalry between the houses, and the advice "don't duel anybody until you've learned how". Yes, I know, it's there to set the scene for Cursed Child; I haven't seen the play, but I've read the book of the scripts.

scalt · 02/03/2026 09:01

One of the Adrian Mole books ends with a spiteful woman burning Adrian’s house down; and Adrian has no insurance, being Adrian. It was as if Townsend couldn’t think of a more subtle way to restore the status quo for the next book.

Poor Adrian nothing was ever easy for him.

I was disappointed by the final, final, one off, The Detectorists. The final of series 3 was perfect but then the one off programme showed that Andy never lived in his perfect house because of a fire. Any and Lance never got the credit for their finds at the end of series 3. Lance and his girlfriend didn't work out. It was so sad.

Glad you told me this, I've just started watching and will skip that final one!

where did you hear that the epilogue was to set the scene for cursed child? I've never heard anything that suggests JKR was planning anything further in the HP universe at the time DH was published, and the huge plot holes in CC and the fact there was nearly a decade between DH being published and first showing of CC doesn't really suggest otherwise.

To me CC reads as though it was cobbled together rather than the extensive planning of the 7 books!

The original ending of Car Share (Peter Kay) gave me absolute rage. They did then follow it up later with another episode that was better, but oof, I was angry!

Firefly. Nuff said

I don’t think Firefly had a bad ending as much as wasn’t allowed to end properly, which is frustrating, but at least there was a film to give completion.

Same goes for Farscape. Series ended on a cliffhanger, and eventually they made two feature length episodes, but it just wasn’t the same.

Another show that had a disappointing ending, it’s just appeared as a recommendation on my Netflix: Falling Skies. The writers either ran out of steam or just got bored. The oh so convenient arrival of another alien species that neatly stomps on the nasty aliens, and that final episode with all the awards and everyone back in ‘civilian’ clothes. Ugh.

Have to agree on Falling Skies.

You appear to have awesome televisual taste btw

Why thank you Grin I have pretty varied viewing tastes, but generally prefer things with a bit of substance and originality. I really don’t like reality type tv, and I get so annoyed when shows follow a predictable formula, or start well and then go limp!

I hadn’t heard it officially: but that epilogue looks as if it was setting the scene for something. I didn’t much like the script of cursed child, so I haven’t bothered to see the play.

Some people think Time Turners should never have been written into the original books: far too powerful a plot device.

Lord of the Rings , never understood why Frodo couldn't go back to the Shire

Carolenarua · 03/03/2026 21:36

Dead To Me.. Poor Judy died of cancer and Jen goes on to have another surprise baby. Made all the sadder by the fact that Judy had miscarriages and desperately wanted to be a mother. I thought that was cruel !
Also in The Resident when Nic dies shortly after having a baby. Why????

DreamingOfGeneHunt · 03/03/2026 21:47

Van Helsing- went really bad and panto-like almost.

Santa Clarita Diet- ended ok but there needed to be another series and I'm still furious there isn't.

La Revolution - vampires in 18th century France- I loved it and then again it just ended and again I'm still furious.

Fear The Walking Dead was so, so good until the end of season 3 and then went to actual hell, and I even paid for season 4 which I will never forgive them for.

Thursa · 04/03/2026 01:58

Sons of Anarchy. Couldn’t the selfish sod have driven off a cliff? Did he have to ruin an innocent drivers life?

Absolutely! I have been re-watching from the start and just completed series 3. Couldn’t tear my eyes away from the “urgent exit required” episode even though I knew what happened! I think it should have ended there tbh as it was such a good finale and tied up many loose ends from the first three series. I’ll still keep re-watching series four onwards though!

The last few episodes of Ashes to Ashes, now they were really all dead all along!

Have you seen what the USA did with it?

Sandysandytoes · 04/03/2026 06:31

The current series of the night manager! Really annoying.
compounded the sadness of Tom hiddlestone looking rather old and rather wooden acting.

One Day. Oh my heart..

Titanic, yes, obviously the ship had to go down, but Jack not giving it one last go to get on there with Rose was a tad frustrating. Also, dropping that necklace into the ocean.

AI, so sad.

The ending of Titanic was ridiculous, surely Rose would have sold that necklace at some point to live on the money? But then the makers seriously had famous paintings which we see in galleries all over the world going down with the ship.
