Any movies or tv shows that got to the grand finally and you were like "what the actual fuck!"

Mine was Lost. Felt it was a rushed lazy ending.

Just watched an excellent WW2 film called 'The Tank'- absolutely excellent throughout, really gripping. And then the ending was a proper WTF! ending that didn't make any sense and ruined the whole film for me.

I hate Friends when Rachel says 'I got off the plane' in that stupid whiny voice!

God this i wonder if we the viewers had matured and couldn't care less about R&R and wanted her to go to Paris!

The Rachel and Ross story did drag on for a very long time.

As was the final. A friend of mine was in the writer's room for KE and I need to go back and see which episodes she was involved in so that I don't accidentally offend her the next time it comes up! (Of course if she was involved in the final episode then I might just have to jettison the friendship! Joking... probably!)

What is the writers room please?

Ozark with Ruth dying.
GoT with Dani going berserk, being stabbed and that useless Bran becoming King.

Edited

I loved Ruth!

So long, i get it was part of the show but by the end I don't think anybody cared!

Janeaway · 01/03/2026 10:00

The last few episodes of Ashes to Ashes, now they were really all dead all along!

Mad Men. It felt like a whimper when it should have been a bang.

i liked the very ending of Mad Men, I thought it was perfect.

Seedlingsparrow · 01/03/2026 10:27

I was disappointed by the final, final, one off, The Detectorists. The final of series 3 was perfect but then the one off programme showed that Andy never lived in his perfect house because of a fire. Any and Lance never got the credit for their finds at the end of series 3. Lance and his girlfriend didn't work out. It was so sad.

Oh we had to stop watching after 2nd episode of the new series, absolute garbage

HornyHornersPinger · 01/03/2026 10:34

Dexter. The whole 8 seasons up until that last episode were just brilliant til they did that..

The ending of Lost didn’t bother me. I’d resigned myself to the fact they didn’t know what they were doing in about season 3. The only thing that annoys me about it is the amount of people who still think they were dead all along! 🤣

Slightly different but an ending I hate/makes me feel horrible is the film The Mist. I really like the film but can’t watch the ending.

Agree about The Mist - horrible - I much prefer the open ending of the book

PeepDeBeaul · 01/03/2026 18:06

A very old one that still grates. Bugs from the 90's (with Jaye Griffiths and Jesse Birdsall). They get into a car after a wedding reception...and it becomes clear that it's been driven by a baddie and they are being abducted...then the series ended for good. We never found out for sure who the baddie was, or how they escaped this time.

That was my favourite show for years after it ended. Jaye Griffiths played the coolest nerd ever...and made it ok for women to like Engineering as a subject.

Fireangels · 01/03/2026 18:11

My Sister’s Keeper, based on the book by Jodi Picault. The book had a brilliant plot twist right at the end, which the makers of the film completely omitted and made a very predictable ending. Just why???

MoonWoman69 · 01/03/2026 18:21

I agree with Lost! I spent the best hours of my life being invested in that and for what?! It just became stupid. It was like being a kid in an English class who has to make a story up and then writes any old waffle to wind it up 5 minutes from the end! I didn't consider anyone might be dead to be fair!

There was another series recently, I can't for the life of me remember what it was, but I remember saying to my husband I wished I hadn't wasted my time on it! For such a well produced series, the ending was absolute shite!

keeperofdarktails · 01/03/2026 18:23

Killing Eve. The death of villanelle was just plain unnecessary and cruel, leaving Eve, (and fans) suddenly so bereft after bringing them together romantically. It served no purpose to kill her, especially as she's still alive in the books. It was positively homophobic imo and I will die on that hill.

Helplessandheartbroke · 01/03/2026 18:24

Sons of anarchy! Worst ending ever

Mad Men. It felt like a whimper when it should have been a bang.

You are kidding! It was the most brilliant ending..once I’d “twigged”

BewilderedPiskie · 01/03/2026 18:28

Not a film/TV series but a book.
Small Pleasures by Clare Chambers. Amazing book, incredibly well written with characters you absolutely invested yourself in (like all her books, cannot recommend highly enough!) but the end was devastating (beautifully written, cannot fault the artistry). I so wanted everything to work out for Jean, she felt like a friend by the end of the book and the ending broke my heart. One of those stories that haunts you for a good while...

latetothefisting · 01/03/2026 18:28

It's got to be GOT. Doubly annoying because there was no need for it to be so rushed - the studio was happy to finance them for multiple seasons and/or movies, the actors were happy to carry on (tbf the best thing about the final season was most of their reactions when doing press and being asked whether they were happy with it!), it was just the producers who thought they had a better offer who decided to wind it up in 6 episodes rather than losing their ego and handing it over to someone else if they didn't want to carry on....ironically their better offer then ended up getting cancelled before it was ever made due to the backlash!

Gossip Girl was another one, the ending (big reveal) didn't even make sense!

tbh I'm struggling to think of really good endings! Lots of TV shows (particularly US ones) suffer from not ending soon enough and dragging on, to the point I haven't seen most of the endings mentioned because I got bored!

The final season of Buffy was a bit crap but I thought the ending was decent enough, although most of the season finales were better.

HarryVanderspeigle · 01/03/2026 18:44

How I met your mother series 9 made me so angry it destroyed any chances of me being able to enjoy the earlier ones again. A whole series about a couple's wedding, only for them to divorce just after and she gets together with someone else! They never should have introduced the mother, as no one can live up to an 8 series intro. Just have Ted bumping into someone and starting to turn around, then tell the kids that's how I met your mother.

Line of Duty. Just such a disappointment.

Definitely.

And it was proper "event" telly too - loads of people were looking forward to it. Around half the country had their Sunday night completely bollocksed by that ending and were left deeply disappointed while Monday morning loomed.

Upholstery · 01/03/2026 18:53

I watched What Remains recently having missed it when it was originally on.

It was pretty good for three episodes if a little slow - nicely atmospheric, several intriguing plotlines, excellent actors - and then the last episode went pure mental, like off the scale daft, to the point of ridiculousness, as though it had been beamed in from Planet Batshit by mistake.

CakeFace1234 · 01/03/2026 19:01

One Day. Oh my heart..

Titanic, yes, obviously the ship had to go down, but Jack not giving it one last go to get on there with Rose was a tad frustrating. Also, dropping that necklace into the ocean.

AI, so sad.
