I had a meeting with a retail client today. They listed a whole load of issues which could impact trade negatively. God, it was depressing!

Radio yesterday LBC Andrew Marr , I can't remember who it was but someone who knows he said we are in the exact wrong place to push green stuff so much right now.we still use gas and electric and we need it.
He said what is the government going to do ,where are they ? We are really facing a huge issue here what are they going to do?
Red ed has just doubled down in his mad cap plans.

As yet - sod all.
Starmer Just keeps rambling about how poor his family were, so he understands. 🙄
Red Ed seems to be calling the shots now, so I'm not holding my breath.

Government borrowing unexpectedly jumped up in February to £14.3bn.
Second highest February figure on record.

Like the 0% January growth that’s pre Iran. Why anyone still thinks their policies are the right ones, god knows.

It doesn't half show some misguided loyalty to cheerlead this bunch of economic incompetents.

Cornwall Insight are predicting that average energy bills set to rise by £332 from summer.

Emma Reynolds this morning keen to play it down. Nothing to see here, too early for intervention, carry on etc. Head firmly in the sand and govt in bunker mode.

There’s no way they have the funds to do what happened with the Ukraine energy crisis.

They’ll have to try and spin why the Conservatives funded more help than they can.

Yes, not exactly in a good financial position are we.
Listening to Patrick Maguire the other day, he said the Conservatives got not thanks at all in polling when they intervened, so Labour won't be chomping at the bit to do the same.

They can't continue with this nothing to see here approach though. Or will they?

Yep it didn’t do much for them. People will take the money of course.

They definitely don’t have the billions spare to do the same. They might try to do targeted stuff and spin it as we care for the vulnerable but wherever that cut off is there’ll still be people struggling with higher costs.

DancingFerret · 20/03/2026 10:04

I made the mistake of watching QuestionTime yesterday. Over the past few months the speakers have been quite civilised, allowing others to finish what they're saying before speaking. I assumed someone must have "had a word", but obviously not as last night's programme was a complete bun fight; the audience hardly got a look in, let alone any coherent answers.

Helen Whately (Shadow Work and Pensions), was loudly derided as she tried to explain Kemi's position on the war in Iran, tied herself in knots, and came across as weak - a zebra surrounded by a pack of lions.

I'm not sure whether the speakers for QT are chosen or volunteer, but the Conservatives really do need stronger candidates.

Agreed. I doubt Labour have learned anything from the WFA thresholds mess.
Their stance atm seems to be - ignore it and hope it goes away.

Sounds fun 🙄
Agree on Helen Whately though. She never does well when I see her in interviews etc. Not sure why the conservatives put her up.

Loyalty or self-interest, I wonder? Those on the benefits gravy train are unlikely to care how its fuelled, just that it stays on track.

Migrants sent back to France under one in-one out deal returning to UK on lorries.

Entirely predictable.

The wealthy pensioners with good pensions are the ones with loyalty. I'm not sure which cheerleaders are on benefits. I don't get the impression that the most vociferous fans are benefit claimants. 🤷‍♀️

There’s a definite skew to wealthy pensioners and loyalty.

Overly loyal Labour lot probably watch QT but not many more. People form their views from other stuff and on SM Labour are totally tanking.

Your input on this thread to date seems to show disdain for @TheNuthatch and provides nothing constructive.

Interesting you feel the need to hide under a name used on this thread only.

Your conjecture is wrong. I name changed before going on holiday last week and had a week off not reading or commenting on anything. This was first thread that popped up yesterday. That said, I tend to name change fairly frequently these days as it mitigates against any creepy snooping by AS. It is an anonymous forum after all.

Your name change story doesn't negate your shitty posting towards @TheNuthatch on this thread. 🤷‍♀️

Oh, and I searched you because of your shitty posts to see if you were like that everywhere, as I thought your tone was unnecessary, so wanted to know if it was a feature rather than a bug.

My “tampon” comment was simply that it was not a tampon just a label and I don’t care what Badenoch wears. There’s nothing contentious or “shitty” about either of those comments. It’s the general responses that seem disproportionately prickly tbh.

Maybe, just maybe, the responses to you were prickly because your tone was off! 🤷‍♀️
