Your biggest mumsnet character flaw (that causes you no problems in real life)

Having read a few threads that variously refer to peoples’ failings with organisation with them being variously late or missing in action I can never get over the ferocity of attack in response to these posts. I mean I wouldn’t understand as I am shocking and despite trying really hard I will forget things, get lost, confuse days, double book myself. And it causes me no problems whatsoever. No one thinks I think I am more important and no one sulks or ditches me.

I am a kind and loyal and helpful person so a bit of chaotic twattery is forgiven easily. I mean people organise me a bit and send me reminders sometimes but that’s it.

also never remember to offer tea and coffee and visitors just make their own or remind me and I will make a cup. Again, no one cares! What is easy in your life that mumsnet makes sound really complicated?!

If the door bell rings , I go to the front door, open it and find out who it is and what they want.

My dc are not "high achieving" or academic

Myself and most of my colleagues did not attend uni, and certainly not a Russell Group one yet have perfectly respectable careers

Eastie77Returns · 23/02/2026 22:02

DP has female friends and has even been known to go to lunch with a female colleague. I have no problem with this whatsoever.

When I organised DC’s birthday parties I didn’t mind if the younger siblings of their invited friends turned up.

I am not close friends with any school mums and I don’t think a group of mums talking at the school gate is a bitchy clique.

SleeplessInWherever · 23/02/2026 22:03

I sometimes give my son chocolate to get in the car for school, because by that point I just need him to go to school, and honestly - the yelling. The yelling.

yonem · 23/02/2026 22:08

I expect people to take their shoes off in my house

I was chair of the PTA. And my child was Mary <gets coat>

Ditto but my DS was Joseph and another PTA members DD was Mary 🤣

PersimmonsAreNotTheOnlyFruit · 23/02/2026 22:08

I wear outdoor shoes inside. No one died yet.
I leave food out overnight to cool down. No one died yet.
I don't need 3 weeks notice for someone to pop round. Impromptu is good.
I always answet the door. Impromptu is good.
I returned to work full time when my kids were 4 months old. They are not emotionally stunted.
I don't assume the OP on MN are automatically right. They can be unreliable narrators.

FrangipaniBlue · 23/02/2026 22:09

I answer my door to unexpected visitors.

I’m a MAWIL and I never use the cycle path.

LifeBeginsToday · 23/02/2026 22:15

I was on track to pay off my mortgage by late 30s. Then I got the biggest mortgage over the longest term I could and moved to a really lovely house. Im thankful every day that I won't be mortgage free until the day I retire.

crackofdoom · 23/02/2026 22:17

Before the menopause I used to enjoy sex for sex's sake. I didn't care if men were only after one thing, because so was I.

(Nowadays I don't need them for anything at all, which is very liberating).

MerelyPlaying · 23/02/2026 22:25

I eat food that’s past its use-by date. My cat walks on the kitchen worktop. Never had food poisoning.

OP you could be my friend … she’s always late, forgets things, double-books, sometimes fails to turn up because she sat down and fell asleep …. We do roll our eyes and moan about her sometimes, but she’s a good friend and we love her so we forgive her. It’s just the way she is.

I mean I am fairly sure I have at least two friends with worktop cats - I don’t think I have ever fallen asleep inadvertently though:) you all sounds like marvellous friends:)

I can't make a chicken stretch to 45 meals

Not even with a massive salad?!

JustGiveMeReason · 23/02/2026 22:44

Sooooooooo many things

I overwhelmingly enjoy weddings.
I normally wear something I have in my wardrobe.
I don't spend thousands attending any wedding.
If it is too difficult to attend, then I thank the host for the invitation and decline graciously.
I would never been so rude as to demand extra invitations for my dh's stepson's cousin's goldfish.

I LOVE it when people 'pop in'.
I open the door even if not expecting anyone.
I pop the kettle on when anyone comes round.
I don't make them take their shoes off.

I have flooring that is designed to be walked on. Occasionally it will get dirty and then I will clean it.
I have a toilet brush. Well for obvious reasons.
I am not frightened of 'poo crumbs' flying round the bathroom.
I don't vacuum every day.
I don't shower every day.
Other than when decorating, I don't think I've ever 'cleaned my skirting boards'.

When my dc were young, if they wanted a friend round to play, and it was possible logistically, then I let them invite whoever they wanted - I never counted or took note of if my child had been to their house.
I have never invited a parent round when a child comes to play, in my life. The point of a child coming to play is that the dc entertain each other and I can crack on with something else.
Same with lifts - if a child needed a lift and I could help, why wouldn't I ?

I have friends. Plenty of friends. But I've never blocked anyone in my life, nor had any big fall outs with anyone, nor any dramatics.
I am not bothered if one of my friends has the cheek to go out without me, perhaps with another of our friends.
I also assume people are nice, until they show me otherwise.

There's so many more........

ArkaParka · 23/02/2026 22:45

My DH isn’t brilliant at doing the dishwasher or cleaning the bathroom but I still haven’t LTB! Many a mumsnet marriage has ended in divorce for less.

Also I love my MIL. Pretty sure that’s not allowed and I’m supposed to hate the way she breathes.

PursuitOfCrappiness · 23/02/2026 22:47

I don’t drive and I don’t want to 😊

crackofdoom · 23/02/2026 22:49

Oh yeah, the blocking thing. It's not normally necessary, you don't have to do it willy nilly. Just don't contact someone, and they usually won't contact you either.

(I've had to block one person who bombarded me with abusive messages- a friend rather than a date, funnily enough)

ThiagoJones · 23/02/2026 22:52

HailMerry · 23/02/2026 20:32

You sound like a fab (step) parent.

As for the time keeping they honestly do not care, not one tiny bit. I mean I am not late often - I do try - but it does go wrong and sometimes epically so. The main person I fuck things up for is me. My husband is the opposite and even he doesn’t get annoyed as he sees the effort (I put in to getting things wrong). Fortunately I am very competent in some areas but I have the same issues at work too but people are very good humoured about it. I set off for a very important meeting last week and popped into the toilet before that kind of redirected me and I forgot what I was doing so I had a mini meeting with someone else (not important!) and went home. Didn’t give it a thought for two days!

As for the time keeping they honestly do not care, not one tiny bit

I honestly think one of my friends would say the same, but actually we do care. It’s infuriating and rude. Now that’s on me I guess for not telling her I find it infuriating and rude.

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 23/02/2026 22:52

I like a bit of celebrity gossip.
I always open my front door if someone rings.
I don't believe the royals are above criticism.
I don't like salad, let alone a massive one.
I take my neighbours parcels in and actually quite like them. The neighbours, not the parcels.

Shitmonger · 23/02/2026 22:54

My name is not Tonka Jahari, and I have never eaten an entire pizza by myself. In fact I don’t know anyone that has eaten an entire large pizza by themselves, in spite of a Mumsnet thread with dozens of posters crowing that they regularly did that plus sides. 😂

waits to see who has the same fyp as me

Foxyloxy89 · 23/02/2026 22:56

despite being an educated, professional woman, I'd quite like to be a SAHM!

despite being a teacher (and a senior one at that), I think families should be able to take holidays in term time.

PermanentlyExhaustedPigeonZZZ · 23/02/2026 23:03

I don't like scarves, I don't mind people parking on/over my drive as long as they're not blocking me in when I've got somewhere to be, I can't make a chicken stretch.

I think saying no as a complete sentence is rude, and you can soften it by saying "unfortunately that's not going to work for me" and not backing down to the same effect.

I believe in gentle parenting but not the type people criticise that is actually permissive parenting wearing a disguise.

bananafake · 23/02/2026 23:07

I actually am sympathetic to people who are sad because they don’t have occasional support from grandparents.

I don’t think mothers should be able to do it all without help and that they’re allowed to vent when they’re stressed.

I think it’s normal to want to have a sex life with your partner.

I don’t think you always have to be understanding to people with anxiety or depression who make it your problem.

I think people who are arseholes often don’t have ND, Alzheimer’s or a mental illness.

I think people in their 60s are usually perfectly capable of getting on trains and dealing with basic life admin.

RaraRachael · 23/02/2026 23:10

I don't follow fashion trends or buy clothes from Hobbs, Hush or Mint Velvet

littleorangefox · 23/02/2026 23:13

I have four children.
I'm a SAHM.
My youngest goes to nursery part time purely so I can have a break.
I fully expect my husband to do 50/50 childcare and housework when he isn't at work.
I refuse to "lower my standards" with things like self care and housework just because I have young children.
I don't accept that grandparents babysitting is a free pass for them to disregard safety rules and instructions we have given them.
We claim UC and other benefits and have a nice house with a mortgage and some savings etc. I am not remotely apologetic for this.
I have ADHD.

I am basically the most despised type of person multiple times over on mumsnet 😂

BauhausOfEliott · 23/02/2026 23:27

Oh, I’ve got loads of these!

I can’t drive. This doesn’t cause me any problems or curtail my freedom at all. My DP is totally happy to do all the driving and I never scrounge lifts from friends.

I do virtually none of the ‘life admin’ or ‘mental load’ that Mumsnet frets about. I’m rubbish at it and it’s boring. DP is quite good at it so he does it instead.

I happily follow loads of thirst trap accounts on Instagram for the sole purpose of enjoying looking at hot shirtless men. I also watch porn sometimes. I’ve no idea what my
DP looks at on social media and I assume he must watch porn, which I’m totally fine with. Neither of us is even remotely bothered by any of this, neither of us has a ‘porn addiction’ and it has caused no problem with our sex life.

I have been known to ghost people.

I run alone in lonely spots, including after dark, and it’s completely fine, no concerns.

I have male friends and DP has female friends. This has never caused any problems or awkwardness in the 23 years DP and I have been together.
