Just for fun, if you were to change your surname...

What would it be to? I quite like 'Makepeace'. I knew a girl at school whose last name was 'Honeychurch', which is pretty. What would you go for?

I met a Mr Longcake once. I’d go for that!

teaandtoastwouldbenice · 22/02/2026 20:23

I went to school with a girl whose surname was makepeace!
I would choose something really plain, like Roberts or Smith, my name is such a mouthful I really don’t like it, or having to always spell it.

currentlybrunette · 22/02/2026 20:24

Valentine or Wilde

ReleaseTheDucksOfWar · 22/02/2026 20:24

Smith too, or Fletcher or Brown or similar

Fends · 22/02/2026 20:24

Bon Jovi. Mrs. Obviously

FuckKnowsMatee · 22/02/2026 20:24

Loveday.

My first and middle name begin with L though so it might all be a bit too much!

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 22/02/2026 20:25

I live in Denmark and Fuglsang is a name I've seen sometimes. It means birdsong!

Flipflopflipflapper · 22/02/2026 20:26

Growing up we watched a lot of ice hockey, and I loved all the exciting sounding names. So probably Lemieux (which always sounded so fancy to me) or Messier

Hatty65 · 22/02/2026 20:27

Ooh - I like Wilde, but it would annoy me to have to add, 'with a E' every time.

For some reason I always fancied something vaguely foreign but easy to say and spell. Romanov or LeBlanc or O'Brien.

I was a very boring Smith (maiden name) and then married a man with an equally dull name. (Think Jones)

MakeYourOwnSunshine · 22/02/2026 20:28

Beauregard, or maybe Plumtree. I met a Ms Plumtree once through work.

Yourinmyspot · 22/02/2026 20:29

I went to school with a boy who’s surname was Ferrari i always thought that would be a good name!

Berlinlover · 22/02/2026 20:29

Kennedy

Akajo · 22/02/2026 20:31

I did change my surname and my first! Went for a flower name for my surname.

SpecialAgentMaggieBell · 22/02/2026 20:32

Minogue, I always thought Kylie and Danni had such pretty full names.

ILiveForTheYadaYada · 22/02/2026 20:33

One everyone could spell easily, maybe a month like March or May.

Before marriage I constantly had to spell my surname and I would have to get in quick before they started writing or typing because they would guess the first letter incorrectly and then it would confuse them when I spelled it out.

I was glad Dh had an easier name so I changed it to his on marriage. At school there was a Valentine, a Love, and a Honeychurch which I liked the most.

imnotwhoyouthinkiam · 22/02/2026 20:33

I did change mine!

If I changed it again I'd go for something short and easy, Wren maybe.

MondeoFan · 22/02/2026 20:34

Fortesque

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 22/02/2026 20:37

Lovejoy.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 22/02/2026 20:41

Gotobed. It's very me.

TheeNotoriousPIG · 22/02/2026 20:41

I changed mine, and although it is long and I sometimes have to spell it out (I did with the original one, and that was only six letters long...), I don't regret it one bit! To me, it is beautiful!

I considered Harper, but the other won out in the end. Other local surnames that sounded cheery and interesting included Snowball, Pickersgill, Valentine, Berry and Fox!

DisplayPurposesOnly · 22/02/2026 20:43

If i hadn't already chosen Gotobed then it'd be Featherstonehaugh (pronounced Fanshaw, if you've not come across it before). I could double-barrel, i suppose.

Came to say this, I've always loved that name but my first name also starts with an L so it would be very twee 🤣
