Just for fun, if you were to change your surname...

What would it be to? I quite like 'Makepeace'. I knew a girl at school whose last name was 'Honeychurch', which is pretty. What would you go for?

Don't be ridiculous, Darling. I wouldn't lick a German if he were glazed in honey!

Darling, you're looking remarkably intelligent today. Did you get a new pen?!

FranticFrankie · 22/02/2026 22:38

Wilde
Wolfe
Fox

borisjohnsonsliedetector · 22/02/2026 22:40

I did change my surname from something that had too many double letters to my mother's maiden name. You'd be surprised how many people seem to think that a 'm' is actually an 'rr i'. Including a slightly miffed nurse un a hospital waiting room who wanted to know why I wasnt answering when she called my name.

Mountbatten-Windsor anyone? 😀

I was about to type Saxe-Coburg.
Does come with its privileges, still, no doubt.

Or Lennon.

WinterBlues26 · 22/02/2026 23:05

There's quite a few i would like such as Fox, Rose, Walker but then I try them with my first name and they jar. I want an easy to spell name as I've had to spell my surname (and first AND middle) since I was four years old. Got married and still have to spell the surname out grrrrr. Now in the process of divorce and even going back up my maternal line there is only one that doesn't need spelling/jarring. And that is Jones 🙄

onelumporthree · 22/02/2026 23:40

Cholmondeley-Featherstonehaugh.

Just to see whether anyone can spell what sounds like 'Chumley-Fanshaw'.😁

Twodogsisbetterthanone · 22/02/2026 23:51

Midwinter

JJWT · 23/02/2026 19:42

Gallagher

MiddleAgedDread · 23/02/2026 19:43

Something well known that people can pronounce and spell. I’d be quite happy with Smith, Jones, Williams type names.

Chatterlyssecret · 23/02/2026 21:22

Chatterley. Any Gamekeepers out there?

dailyconniptions · 23/02/2026 21:27

Faulkner.

Hotchocolate4 · 23/02/2026 21:28

Dragonetti - I just think it’s such a cool name!

NotherdrinkAnge · 23/02/2026 21:36

I've always rather liked the name Savage.

VivienneDelacroix · 23/02/2026 21:37

Delacroix!

Or Wilder, Belacqua, Woolf, Picasso, Cézanne...

SinceRookieSeason · 23/02/2026 21:38

I’d love to have Lewis or Williams or Evans

Crochetandtea · 23/02/2026 21:39

Omg makepeace I love it, I’ll be Dempsey

ConnieClue · 23/02/2026 21:49

My grandmother's maiden name was Swann, which I've always thought was beautiful, so I'd go for that I think.

NoraLuka · 23/02/2026 21:58

Pendragon, sounds kind of majestic and mysterious.

Either that or Smith, Jones, Miller… because I’d love a name I don’t need to spell out!

TheKittenswithMittens · 23/02/2026 22:01

Not Mountbatten-Windsor

wellingtonsandwaffles · 23/02/2026 22:12

ReleaseTheDucksOfWar · 22/02/2026 20:24

Smith too, or Fletcher or Brown or similar

My married name is Brown and I hate it! So bland. My maiden name is a nice Irish name.

1000StrawberryLollies · 23/02/2026 22:31

I really like Pendragon and Penhaligon, mentioned upthread. I also quite like Meredith.

Playingvideogames · 23/02/2026 22:35

I LOVE the name Lana Del Ray so it would’ve be something with that sort of ‘vibe’

AwayADay · 23/02/2026 22:38

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 22/02/2026 20:21

I met a Mr Longcake once. I’d go for that!

I saw a works van this week with that very name !
