Just for fun, if you were to change your surname...

What would it be to? I quite like 'Makepeace'. I knew a girl at school whose last name was 'Honeychurch', which is pretty. What would you go for?

I dated a Mr Rose and a Mr Valentine in the past! Either of those would have been lovely, had they not been attached to the men they came with Grin

My friend’s surname is Diamond and I’ve always admired it. That’s probably what I’d choose!

Elizabeta · 22/02/2026 22:07

I used to work with a Ms Waterfall, which I’m jealous of.

Loxley
Loveday
Fox
Weasley
Potter

I would change it to Jones or Green or something like that. I don't think having a standout name is a good thing in this day and age.

DrivingonIce · 22/02/2026 22:12

I'd like to be a Reader or a Gardener or a Walker. Easy to spell and pleasant associations.

dontforgettofloss · 22/02/2026 22:12

I knew someone with the surname De- Lara, I love it

LeedsLoiner · 22/02/2026 22:12

Mountbatten-Windsor anyone? 😀

DominoLover51 · 22/02/2026 22:14

Kinsella

Soonflower · 22/02/2026 22:14

Costello or Kinsella.

Me too!

My ex wanted to change his name when he found out his dad wasn't his bio dad. I chose his new surname, we were engaged so would've been mine too. He has since married twice. We never did. It makes me laugh to think the 2 women he married had their name chosen by me! Obvs can't say what it is on here!

I don't know why I've always liked the surname Painter but strangely enough that wasn't the name I chose so could still use it.

Arlanymor · 22/02/2026 22:16

I really like my surname, it's a bit long, but it's unusual enough that I have only once met another person with it.

I went to primary school with a De'Ath... I always thought it was a bit cool! I also like Twelvetrees - and the latter I went to secondary school with and his parents gave him a Lord of the Rings first name - geniuses!

My mum's maiden name was Jones, so we also have that... although in our little valley village all the Jones had a word in front of their Jones so that you knew which Jones they were! We were the Cos Jones family - a bit like Dai the Milk, Dai the Post, etc.

All that said, I should probably opt for a Welsh name, so Glyndŵr it is. (Edited to add the to bach above the 'w'!)

emmetgirl · 22/02/2026 22:17

Something easy to spell.
I’ve spent my life spelling my surname out (nearly 60 years) and it’s getting old now.

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 22/02/2026 22:18

Gryglaszewska. Because it's always made me laugh since Pam first mentioned it on Gavin & Stacey.

Chosemyownmarriedtobenamebutneverhadit · 22/02/2026 22:19

Met someone recently with the surname Sartorious which I also think is cool. Used by many tailors in Italy and also the longest muscle in the body-in the leg and after the way tailors used to sit cross legged whilst working. I seem to have a theme here if trade associated names (but still not included in the ex renaming thing if you read my earlier post!)

PurpleCyclamen · 22/02/2026 22:19

Smith

JaneIves · 22/02/2026 22:21

Penhaligon.
I don’t know why, I just like the sound of it. Sadly, it really wouldn’t go with my forename.

If you know anyone who used to watch Cracker back in the day then you'd probably end up being called Panhandle.

SnugglyJumpersMakeItBetter · 22/02/2026 22:23

I'm surprised at the number of people who would go with a boring Smith or Jones. I've got an extremely common name and it's just a bit dull! Is it so it would be harder to Google you?

Don't be ridiculous, Darling. I wouldn't lick a German if he were glazed in honey!

ValancySnaith · 22/02/2026 22:32

Fairchild, Sullivan, Lancaster or Bronte.

JaneIves · 22/02/2026 22:35

@AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSantaI used to love Cracker! Was it Jane Penhaligon?
