I bet there are some tantrums in Reform HQ as well.

Yes. That is three national by-elections Reform has now failed to win.

Lalgarh · 27/02/2026 08:45

The greens did do an interview with "5 pillars", a Muslim activist organisation that have also interviewed Nick Griffin for the Zio conspiracy theories banter, (but who are also anti LGBTQ) and the Urdu and Bengali translation videos were standard sectarian minded pics of nazi Starmer meeting war criminals Netanyahu and Modi that Labour or Galloways party would put out. Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 27/02/2026 08:46

Well one wouldn't expect a balanced view from the Telegraph so I'm pleased they have met my expectations.

I think the worrying thing about this result is that if it does suggest a general move away from the traditional parties, then Reform will be in a much better position to capitalise on that at a general election than the Greens. I can't see the Greens having the resources to fight hundreds of seats effectively.

Anyway at least the Tories lost their deposit. Perhaps I should name change multiple times and start a new thread or ten about that. 🤣

BestIsWest · 27/02/2026 08:46

I’m happy to see the Greens win and hope Starmer realises he needs to be more progressive.

DuncinToffee · 27/02/2026 08:46

My BlueSky snap shot is a few disappointed Labour voters who are relieved Reform didn't get in but the majority are disillusioned Labour supporters happy with the Green win. The latter really doesn't like how Labour appeased the right wing.

Also a lot of Burnham fans which probably sways it a bit.

The thread about the by-election is now becoming very ugly.

DuncinToffee · 27/02/2026 08:54

I have poured myself a coffee, will start reading some of those threads.

I have repeatedly said on here that Labour are complacent about the Left. They need to worry about this as much as they do Reform . The Corbyn Party is going nowhere and Green have replaced that.

I agree.

Maybe Labour will get the message now.

BestIsWest · 27/02/2026 08:58

@Piggywaspushed totally agree and Plaid here in Wales are in the same position as the Greens. Though I’m expecting my DS to vote Green in the Senedd elections. I’m still on the fence between Labour and Plaid. I know and like the local Labour candidates and know nothing about the Plaid candidates yet.

I hope you are crying into that coffee, Duncin. We should all be more upset, apparently.

ThatbloodyRoblox · 27/02/2026 09:10

There are quite a few toys being thrown out of prams this morning, some are very disgruntled with the result.
I am happy with the outcome. I do hope Labour unite more as there will be a lot of muttering on the back benches and the May elections aren’t that far away.

We’re pissing them off because they can no longer accuse us of being tribal.

I am enjoying my coffee.

Bins are being emptied outside so it's a bit noisy.

If I had been voting in the by-election yesterday I would have voted Green even though I don't agree with many of their non environmental policies. Totally tactical. Reasons being:

  1. a vote for Labour may have let Reform in
  2. they have hardly any MPs so one more isn't going to have a significant effect on issues I disagree with them on
  3. It might help stop Labour sliding to the right.
PickAChew · 27/02/2026 09:34

Same here, @countrygirl99 -I 'm the sort of left leaning floating voter that some people obviously cannot fathom.

SerendipityJane · 27/02/2026 09:35

Excellent G&D result.

High turnout shows that Reform are nowhere near as mainstream as they'd like us to think.

Margin of win clearly shows that voters aren't fooled. And that Reform are condemned to having to fight on two mutually exclusive fronts to advance.

Why. It's almost as if abandoning the centre halved, rather than doubled your appeal.

Fuck Farage and his Russo-fascist friends. And hooray for FPTP 🤔

Same here but different reasons. It's actually their non environmental policies that chime with me. Although of course I support their green small g policies too.

Sounds like a plan.

Meanwhile, St. Kemi is suffering the worst fate Oscar Wilde could have bestowed. Meaning my contentment grows. The party that betrayed Britain is finally tasting ice-cold revenge.

I may well pop into a church later. Truly He does move in mysterious ways 😎

But we are not allowed to call her "irrelevant". It is misogynistic.

I think she sank below irrelevant a while back.

Literally no one is even talking about the Tories picking up less than 1 vote in 50 and losing their deposit

Lib Dems held in the Shirley (Southampton) by-election.

How can it possibly be misogyny? Anyone and anything can be irrelevant. All that shows is a basic misunderstanding of the word.
