A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙 🩵

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

I’m in two minds. I distrust anything said by a Green. But what Hannah Spencer has said is so obviously likely that it’s hard to think she’s fibbing. Starmer must go: it’s irresistible now.

A pox on both their houses.

(And a plague of locusts on Reform too.)

The Greens will be a total nightmare for the economy.

Mothin All drifted onto my radar a while ago. With all the pro Gaza furore. At first I was puzzled a green party leader? Took a while for the penny to drop I blush to admit.

A very dear friend of mine supported greenham common a few times when we both had young children. She was my idea of a green . Made her own clothes, grew her own food, amazing cook a real earth mother and a passionate teacher of SEN children.

I have a similar family member - truly lives her values and a lovely person, who has aleays voted Green. Unfortunately, I'm sure she'll still vote for this new version of the Green party, since their expressed values aren't far enough away to cause her alarm. I suspect 'be kind' appeals to her - she isn't cynical enough to see through to the misogyny - and she's definitely pro-gaza. Legalising all drugs will worry her, but her instinct will be to give the benefit of the doubt. I'm sure there are many like her.

Sorry @DenizenOfAisleOfShame - my language wasn't clear. I meant that it was predatory behaviour. I think you're spot on about the origins of the Green party, and also about the current motive to get power.

It's very worrying that they are so high in the polls.

The Greens will be a total nightmare for the economy.

Not just the economy. I think they threaten the social fabric of the UK.

peacefulpeach · 26/02/2026 08:07

Agree with all that people here have said about the greens. It’s unfortunate they’re called the greens - which represents what they used to be. Green nature friendly Cnd blah blah. But now they should have a different name. It doesn’t reflect their current incarnation of woman hating drug loving Muslim manipulating toxic mess. They’ve always been economically illiterate but it wasn’t an issue when they were tucked away being hippy ish. Soon as they’re anywhere near power - very dangerous.

Parsley4321 · 26/02/2026 08:13

@strawberrybubblegum yes this very same thought has been rolling around my brain and you have put it completely succinctly thank you ! What happened to the yogurt weaving lentil eating hippies ? The Green Party are fucking insane I’m outside Stroud a proud bastion of green supporters Dale Vince anyone putting up a pro Palestine flag at the entrance to Stroud it’s insane dangerous and terrifying

EasternStandard · 26/02/2026 08:14

Chagos is such a mill stone it’s unreal. Just drop it already. They’re still claiming it’s happening. Pathetic and damaging.

Pointofsingularity · 26/02/2026 08:32

So, Labour will spin a Greens win over Reform, as a victory.

This, despite Labour losing the seat, because Starmer blocked Burnham from running (and the previous incumbent being a wrong ‘un).

Meanwhile, Starmer uses language that would see us mortals receiving a 5 am knock on the door.

What did we do to deserve this utterly despicable government?

strawberrybubblegum · 26/02/2026 08:43

Well you see @Pointofsingularity , hate speech doesn't count as hate speech if it's directed at something which the 'good guys' themselves hate. Only if it's directed at something 'righteous' ... in which case even mild disagreement counts as hate speech.

DameProfessorIDareSay · 26/02/2026 08:47

EmeraldRoulette · 25/02/2026 21:45

Now there's an image! That really made me laugh 😂

Then I picture @DameProfessorIDareSay dogs running around after them... I've forgotten what they were called...DelicateDog and what was the robust one called? Was it DurableDog?

To be honest, I have no idea why anyone is voting Green either. I really feel as if I've missed something. I am quite suspicious of the Greens tbh. But surely anyone who's paying attention doesn't link them up to any nature related issues.

looks like I've missed a whole bunch of madness while I've been too busy to look at things. It's just like a big pile of crazy every day.

Edited

"British beavers can grow up to 1 meter long and weigh between 20 to 30 kilograms"

I had to go and look that up! If they met a beaver DelicateDog would be out of there so fast she would leave scorch marks and even Durable Dog would think twice about engaging with something four times her size. Though she would give it a stern look.

The fact that the Labour party are resorting to beavers, well, the usual distraction is to point at a squirrel so it is a novel distraction at least. Maybe they are going to give animals the vote...

peacefulpeach · 26/02/2026 08:53

“The worst-case scenario for Labour is coming third behind Reform and the Greens, not least because of the decision to stop Andy Burnham from standing.”
The Guardian

What have you done Starmer you preening bellend.

peacefulpeach · 26/02/2026 08:56

Being from a deprived area in the NW, I really do feel sorry for the G&D people here, if reform or the greens win which it looks likely they will, it’s no good for the locals. These 2 parties have zero competence or experience in running a constituency. Much as I can’t stand Labour (and that’s a lot), if I lived in this area, I’d be very worried. It’s about to go to crap. More so than it probably is already.

DameProfessorIDareSay · 26/02/2026 09:00

“In a healthier society, our oh-so-anti-racist elites would be demanding to know why the Greens were fuelling anti-Jewish and anti-Hindu sentiment, and whether extremism and bigotry may be festering among sections of the local community, deserving urgent intervention. Yet the establishment finds it easier to treat swathes of our urban areas as if they were an 1920s imperial outpost where administrators are tasked with keeping a superficial peace between communities, rather than pursuing justice."

Allister Heath bang on the money in the Telegraph:

This abominable by-election is a final warning for Britain’s democracy

Too much immigration allied with growing Left-wing extremism has become a toxic mix

I was brought up in a deprived NW town and pretty much agree with everything you say.

Im no fan of Burnham, hes a weathercock politician, but of the options given to G&D he would have been the least worst and might of encouraged people to vote for Labour, even if they disliked Starmers Labour.

We will have to see what the election brings, but Starmers 'country first party second' is starting to ring hollow. It feels more like Starmer before party before country.

“Country first, party second” is a sick joke with Starmer now. We’ve never had a more underhand, vain, manipulative, conniving shit as PM, and all that disgraceful effort is directed at his own survival and self-interest.

Yet if a Tory PM was behaving in the same way, they'd be up in arms. Hypocrites.

Julen7 · 26/02/2026 11:00

Not had time to catch up with the thread today but when is the Gorton result through? Guessing not till tomorrow or do they take even longer when it’s a single by election?

Sarahconnor1 · 26/02/2026 11:07

On a related note Starmer got community noted again on twitter today. This time for the slight of hand re energy prices.

Ed Milliband was called out for the same on GMB this morning.

Idk the usual but they really are self defeating with Starmer love in stuff. Give it a rest already. Everyone else has.

I struggle to take them seriously, tbh - they’re like boiling milk.

Always entertaining when they attempt to go off-piste, though.
