A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙 🩵

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

No, but Starmer will try to spin it so - look how he’s focused on Reform in this by election - agitating that there will local ‘hostility’ if Reform win.

Irresponsible and outrageous.

Bloody hell. Has he actually said that?

Yes. For sure. You can see it on the rotten Labour core pages here on MN. They go on and on and on (and on) about reform and Farage. The whole Labour party is the same. Starmer will definitely put the show on that it’s a win (for everyone) if reform don’t win. Never mind the greens are horrendous too.

EasternStandard · 25/02/2026 09:15

Labour hyper fixating on Reform absolutely feeds onto mn. Starmer is part of the problem but they also want what Plaid C got in Wales. If you can be that vote you get an upswing.

TheNuthatch · 25/02/2026 09:03

Bloody hell. Has he actually said that?

Sir Keir Starmer has claimed that Gorton and Denton will “descend into hostility” if Reform UK wins a crucial by-election in the seat later this week.

The Prime Minister said community tensions would rise if Nigel Farage’s party gained a ninth MP in the Greater Manchester constituency.

Voters in Gorton and Denton will go to the polls on Thursday in what is expected to be a three-way contest between Labour, Reform and the Greens.
Sir Keir has stepped up his attacks on Reform and Mr Farage in recent months, accusing them of “racist” policies and claiming that they would tear Britain apart.

Making his first appearance on the by-election trail on Monday afternoon, the Prime Minister insisted the contest would be a two-horse race between his party and Reform.

He said: “The battle here is that basic battle between a party that wants to bring our communities together, to make sure that everybody in this constituency has their voice heard in Parliament through their brilliant Labour candidate, or a party that couldn’t really care less where the constituency is.

“That is not the politics of this constituency. That is not the politics of this country.

“And we must be in this fight, fighting for all the people that will be affected by decisions made here on Thursday and making sure that they have the hope to go forward, that better support from a Labour Government and to make sure that we do not descend into hostility, which would follow a Reform win.”

Every time I hear Starmer talking about 'fighting' for the seat, against the Right, for the nation's soul - and he does use that language a lot - I'm so struck by how similar it is to the language people condemn Trump for using in his famous speeches which the BBC decided to cut up and stick back together again.

Why is it totally OK for Starmer to use those words - figuratively, I'm quite sure - but not Trump? They're using the same words in the same way Confused

Thank you.
Sorry if my pp read as if I was asking for proof. I wasn't, I know you don't post BS. Just shocked at Starmer's language here.

Agree with @strawberrybubblegum's post above.

Without being provocative, I can see the below proving unpopular with some quarters of MN….

The NHS in England will be set targets on getting people back to work, as ministers plan to link patient data to employment status and benefits claims to assess how much the health service boosts the economy.

Wes Streeting, the health secretary, is promising to make the NHS “accountable” for whether patients are in work by introducing goals across England for how many people the health service should get to return to employment.

Ministers hope to use the NHS to reduce Britain’s rising sickness benefit bill and deal with a post-pandemic high of 2.8mn people out of work through long-term illness.

😂😂😂😂😂🙈🙈🙈🙈 You couldn’t make it up. Labour are shifting responsibility for personal health and working status, from the individual to the NHS. Wtf. Perhaps if Labour stopped encouraging the free payment of people to sit on their backsides at home, those people would be out working and having a better healthier life.

Assuming this is basically accurate - and it is the FT, so a decent source - it’s utter garbage. The NHS isn’t going to get anyone back into work who doesn’t want to be in work. What does Streeting think medics do? Oh yes, they say, “I could treat your feet/back/hip so you can go back to work. But I’m not going to. So there!

It’s just pathetic soundbite nonsense trying to create the illusion of purposeful policy.

🙄

100%.

It’s not the NHS’s responsibility or fault - more a dysfunctional welfare and tax system. Labour should start with Reeves.

Labour has accused the Green Party of “manipulating” Muslim voters and stirring up hatred on the eve of the Gorton and Denton by-election.

Senior Labour figures rebuked Zack Polanski’s party over campaign materials written in Urdu that tell Muslims to “punish Labour for Gaza”.

Lucy Powell, the deputy Labour leader, said: “The Green campaign is becoming increasingly desperate and has been characterised by misinformation with dodgy bar charts, selective quoting of academics and now a shameful attempt to manipulate the respected Muslim community.

“Voting Green let Reform win in Runcorn [and Helsby]. Voters here are more alive to that threat every day … Labour is the only serious contender that will beat Reform.”

A senior Cabinet minister told The Times: “The Greens are whipping up hatred and deliberately raising the salience of Gaza. They’re hammering us.
“They’re a totally different party to the one we thought they were. They’re just like Respect – it’s like fighting a by-election against George Galloway.”

Labour would never chase the Muslim vote and spread anti-Israeli (aka antisemitic) rubbish. Oh no.

Labour use whatever they can. They’re so hypocritical they deserve to lose on that alone.

There was an incident last night at a mosque in Manchester. Sounds like some men entered, and some thought they were carrying weapons in a bag. No one was injured.
Starmer is making hay with it. I'm sure the Greens will do the same.

Right. So Starmer sends his thoughts and gratitude to helpers.

And then boasts about how much extra Labour’s spent on security for mosques. No opportunistic chasing of the Muslim vote there, no sirreee.

Good to hear Kemi focusing on young people though in the few minutes I watched.

I cannot wait to see him out on his freebie loading arse.

I can listen to Kemi but switch after his first line or so, listening to Times radio. Whatever happens hopefully people will vote to tell him how loathed he is.

Can't wait until the next general election. I can't look at them anymore.
