A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙 🩵

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Sorry peach. For every 100 successful graduate there are on average 10 jobs. My DS said that the trickle of CVS have started to come through already to his company.

Excuse my French, but fucking hell. 10% is shameful.

Greens are odds on favourites for the by election according to the bookies. Reform second, Labour third! How the mighty have fallen. 😁

Chatting with someone at work today about the May elections. They said they don't think Reform will actually want to win in Wales. I thought that was interesting. If Reform do well, but not quite enough to win, it keeps their record clean for a GE.

Yes they are, amongst other crazy ideas. Big difference between decriminalise and legalise. ZP is batshit.

I can only assume that those voting Green either don't know what their policies are, or its willful ignorance because they've swallowed the whole 'keep Reform out' bollocks.

The Bank of England’s chief economist said his daughter is among the hundreds of thousands of young people struggling to find work as a jobs crisis grips Britain.

Huw Pill told MPs that youth unemployment was affecting him personally and said Labour’s recent tax and minimum wage changes were fuelling the problem.

“I very much share your concern about unemployment, particularly for the younger people. I have a daughter looking for a job, so this is a very immediate experience for me personally as well,” the economist told the Treasury select committee.

“Some of the changes … around tax and the National Living Wage, they have particularly had an effect at the 16 to 18 and the 18 to 21 [age groups]. That is because some of the changes have been to move some of the special lower rates of the National Living Wage up to the normal rates.”

Even idiot Labour must have dc feeling this. Good on him for speaking out.

A slight divergence but the news from Ukraine is so sad and awful. The terrible warfare, including young people in Ukraine but also Russians who don’t want to be there and from other countries. Just such sad stories about unnecessary bloodshed.

Who will Labour supporters blame? It couldn't possibly be due to Starmer and Reeves. 🙄

Back when Burnham's name was being floated in late January, Labour had a 56% chance of winning the by-election. Now they will inevitably lose the constituency.

Starmer and pals made Labour irrelevant in Gorton and Denton. I'd be wild if my constituency was at risk of being represented by a pro-gaza, pro-drugs cbeebies candidate because we lost Burnham at the alter of Starmer protectionism.

It’s not good for Gorton and Denton. The Greens are a disaster and the constituency will suffer terribly if the greens win. Or if reform win (see Lancashire). The neglect, incompetence, and decaying effects the greens had on Brighton and Hove are still being felt today. For g&d Labour was the best of a bad bunch, if it had been AB they’d have seen a positive difference (for the area) I’m sure. Well done Starmer 👏🏻 👏🏻

Bookies odds are based on gamblers anywhere putting their money on a candidate -ie it is pure maths, not an opinion poll of actual voters in that constituency.

Yes, but the actual polling was close to 50-50 too. Look at the Labour Comms back in January...

There's very little polling for this by election, as ever.
The scant polling that is available shows a three-way even split.

It’s quite something when Labour would happily celebrate a Green win as a victory - that just demonstrates how broken they’ve become.

Meanwhile, if anyone actually bothered to read the Green’s manifesto…

Yes, Burnham could have won the seat. Both Labour and Greens are canvassing voters, saying that a vote for the other will mean a Reform win.

I agree Burnham would have taken it easily, I’m not sure who will now.

I know. They're voting for parties far more dangerous than Reform, to keep Reform out. Make it make sense?

OP posts:

A win for the Greens won't be a win for Labour. If the Greens were to win it is evidence of a roadmap that significantly splits the vote. It's going to be harder to campaign against a party who claims to offer a better and more satisfying version of what you are offering, than it is to build a campaign against a party who you can position as oppositional.

I don’t think it will be either. Reform or Greens winning will be an issue for Starmer / Labour.

No, but Starmer will try to spin it so - look how he’s focused on Reform in this by election - agitating that there will local ‘hostility’ if Reform win.

Irresponsible and outrageous.
