A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙 🩵

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

This is so bad! Now they want to mark their own homework?
I listened to The State of It the other day, and Gabriel Pogrund was explaining it all. It was actually quite upsetting to listen to, particularly the part about his "jewishness', and the lies about him having Russian links. Its appalling.
Also read elsewhere that Tom Harper, who compiled this vile dossier for Labour, is married to Catherine Wheeler. She's an editor at the times.

That is savage. At the Times, I mean.

I am going into DD’s school this week to start her EHCP application after three terms of her SEN plan.

We have already jumped through many hoops. And now I feel like Labour are going to snatch her support away when it’s almost in sniffing distance.

Best of luck. I hope your dd is happy and doing well at school, that's the most important bit.

I think we can be confident that this Labour initiative won’t be getting off the ground:

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-15587447/Ministers-overhaul-admissions-middle-class-schools.html

Making it harder for the middle-class left to colonise state schools will generate massive discontent. How else can they get a decent education for their children and still boast about rejecting private schooling? Starmer can expect a delegation from his backbenches soon enough.

Labour's class-war plan to stop middle-class dominating top schools

In what has been seen as another 'class war' move, ministers want to break the link between house prices and access to the best schools.

Bloody hell whatever happens don’t let parents put in the effort to get a good education for their dc.

How much are they stamping on everything. How can anyone be enjoying this take?

Insanity.

EasternStandard · 24/02/2026 13:40

I still read pro Labour posts on here. How? Why? No one thinks the anti aspiration stance is a good one surely.

EmeraldRoulette · 24/02/2026 14:22

I don't have children and I don't know anything about how schooling works these days

The only thing I do know is that I have great admiration for teachers, but I always have had that.

So as a person with no skin in the game, looking at the new plan the first thing that struck me was - which quangos make money out of this? I feel like there's going to be quite a lot of money sloshing around in there, as well as stress for parents.

I realise every government brings in new plans and it's often just just more gravy for the train, not saying it's exclusive to Labour but it's incredibly annoying. I really want somebody to cut back on that kind of thing.

But we're back to "nobody will make the redundancies" - which reminds me, I'm not sure what's happening with NHS England now.

RockaLock · 24/02/2026 14:27

Oh, what a great idea. Increase the amount of traffic on the roads at school run times.

And if a “more desirable” school is over a certain distance from the pupil’s house, will the council have to fund their transport? It might not be the closest school, so under current rules possibly not - but will the underprivileged families they would be targeting either want or be able to pay for their own transport?

Here’s a radical idea, Labour: why not concentrate on improving all schools to a similarly good standard?

Oh, I forgot - it’s easier to piss off the aspirational middle classes than actually bother trying to improve things!

If they could read and write it would be a start. Was listening to someone the other day trying to street interview voters in a n upcoming election. The grasp of the English language was scant a journalist noted in many adults.

CruCru · 24/02/2026 15:00

I’m getting a bit cross with MPs talking about how awful Andrew is because of things he said publicly years ago. There’s a thing about him saying that Dolly the sheep was a “Frankenstein sheep” in front of Japanese dignitaries. I mean, yes - the man is a total arse. But in this case he was an arse loudly and publicly and no one said much at the time.

If the released files show that he was up to no good in private then fair enough. But claiming he was “speaking against British commercial interests” years later when everyone laughed politely at the time is going it a bit.

Incredible isn’t it. Tbh I’ve not read their social engineering gymnastic proposals on this in detail, although it’s likely there’s not much detail to read, but … EH?

Bridget seems to be saying that Labour are going to restrict local children’s entry into well performing schools, in favour of allowing non local children to have a place at those schools. All based on family wealth / house price.

It appears that the more obvious solution of improving non selective state schools is Too Difficult. Instead they’d rather piggy back on the benefits that wealthier more invested families have brought to a school in the past, use that benefit whilst cutting it off for similar families in future.

I think someone needs to tell them that without improving non selective state schools - these schools only do better Because of their local catchment area. If they fck up the ‘catchment area’ in favour of some 6th form attempt at social engineering, the only people who will suffer are the children. I guess we already know that Labour don’t care much about children.

Tales from the NHS frontline...

Saw my consultant this week (privately, not waiting a year for an appointment never mind 2 years for an op). He mostly works in a big NHS hospital.

We had a good chat about how the NHS is failing so many people; he said there is one very busy department in his NHS hospital and that is a private GP service. Huge demand.

He thinks none of the main parties have a clue how to fix it because it is a religion for so many people. It’s clearly not sustainable as it is and throwing money at it does not improve productivity.

We then got interrupted by me being called for some tests but I’m looking forward to seeing him next month so I can ask him what he would do to fix it!

zurigo · 24/02/2026 16:46

The more I hear about these SEN reforms the more I think this is just another chapter in this govt's class war.

zurigo · 24/02/2026 16:56

However, the one thing I agree with them on is that the SEN system is utterly broken. No one should have to be sharp-elbowed to get their DC the support they need and the fact that the current system rewards those who are sharp-elbowed is clearly wrong. So I agree that it needs reform, but the amounts of money BF is proposing for schools to facilitate the changes is like a drop in the bucket - it's not going to be enough. It's a few thousands per school.

justasking111 · 24/02/2026 18:02

If I was planning a family now I'd think about a forest school in Norway. Our system is broken. Friends grandchildren on an island in in New England. Are taught similarly to this. Their uniform is boots and dungarees .

VAT was a load of shite that many Labour posters bought and now this. Unfortunately we use state so even though I thought it the worst policy ever Labour can impact us.

Mildly better is two dc nearly through and only one to go, in a good state school before Labour try to stop that.

Sorry peach. For every 100 successful graduate there are on average 10 jobs. My DS said that the trickle of CVS have started to come through already to his company.

redange · 24/02/2026 19:05

Are Labour going to go for Grammar Schools Next or as I suspect that is a bit difficult. The reason being it will wake up the well off ' Do Gooders' who still vote Labour. The, ones who say they loathe Grammar Schools but have their children educated in them. Hiding, by saying 'Its not are fault' we live in a Selective Area or I could not send my child to school B... These, being the only voters left supporting the Labour Party Metropolitan Public Sector ' Professionals'....
