A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙 🩵

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Jesus. If this had been the Tories, Starmer would be jumping up and down.

He’s very quiet. He’s got a storm coming his way I reckon. He got in off DC partygate so this’ll be his version.

I'm all about the skier-chasing dog! 🤣🤣

Loved that dog.
I would definitely ski faster if I thought there was a wolf chasing me 😂

Yes Mandelson finally arrested.
I thought the Andrew stuff was a fig leaf to take away attention from him.
Andrew is an utterly pointless , thick idiot.
Mandelson far more dangerous and destructive.

Josh Simons also being investigated by starmers ethics adviser

www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c8xy5jepevno

This is so bad! Now they want to mark their own homework?
I listened to The State of It the other day, and Gabriel Pogrund was explaining it all. It was actually quite upsetting to listen to, particularly the part about his "jewishness', and the lies about him having Russian links. Its appalling.
Also read elsewhere that Tom Harper, who compiled this vile dossier for Labour, is married to Catherine Wheeler. She's an editor at the times.

Well Starmer can't keep claiming that he knew nothing. I'm sure he'll try, but it doesn't wash.

There’s no one left to sack either. McSweeney has gone.

Yep.
Starmer will probably pull the can't comment due to investigation line at PMQs over Simons. Funny how the investigation was announced at the same time as Mandy was arrested. They make me feel sick.

What do you think Kemi will say on Wednesday? This bunch are making her job really easy.

CruCru · 23/02/2026 18:17

The Speaker has said that MPs can discuss Andrew MW in the HoC but not other members of the Royal family.

I wonder if Kemi is going to repeatedly ask if Starmer will cooperate fully with the police investigation.

I hope she does. If she uses her full quota of questions for that one ask, KS will be a quivering, angry heap on the floor (although I doubt he'll actually answer the question).

TheNuthatch · 23/02/2026 18:24

She'll be spoilt for choice by Wednesday. Mandelson, Doyle, Labour Together, Simons, student finance, removing EHCPs from children at the worst possible moment in their education, youth unemployment.
Its hard to choose.

Whereistheejectbutton · 23/02/2026 18:51

Yes coming along to say oh look, the expected EHCP cuts have arrived - but wait - they’ve introduced them more slowly. Have lessons finally been learned by the LP? Too bad they didn’t do that for other policies.

and perhaps the horizon is long enough for them to get booted - as how they can look at Scotland and the educational shit show here and think that they want to ape that (lack of) SEN choice when the dismal results are available to view is beyond me.

I know we need to save money but I don’t know why we’re starting with SEN…oh wait it’s because all of their other attempts to save money have failed…

Whereistheejectbutton · 23/02/2026 18:54

It’s very cynical really, they are going to reduce the kick off from SEN parents because the people with an ehcp will keep it for now, and the people that won’t get one in the future don’t yet know they need one. Lovely.

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 23/02/2026 18:57

This is is a great opening paragraph from a piece on the Spectator site:

If you didn’t laugh at this Labour government, you would cry. The Anti-Corruption Minister has resigned over corruption; the Homelessness Minister quit over making people homeless. The Police Transport Minister went after being accused of lying to the police – while the Housing Secretary did not pay £40,000 tax on her house. Now – get this – the minister for inquiries is… the subject of an inquiry!

Of course there have also been plenty of other scandals along the way. After 19 months! What a bunch of useless and sleazy muppets.

EmeraldRoulette · 23/02/2026 19:00

I intended to watch a talk by David Starkey at the New Culture Forum yesterday - a big deal for me because I can't stand the man (after meeting him a few times, apologies if anyone knows him)

Anyway, I accidentally ended up watching the wrong one.

I realised when it had started - but I kept watching because he opened with the statement "the country is about to elect, with a huge majority, a government that will be a total disaster". It was indeed a talk from 2024! In the talk he said that he thought that IMF would be called in within 18 months.

I've gotta hand it to him, he was a tad pessimistic but not too far wrong!

I might get a chance to watch the talk, I intended to watch this evening! that's only about a month old 😂

Exactly what Peter Hitchens said before the 2024 Election, and he was right - although I suspect even he didn't expect them to be quite so awful, spiteful and hopelessly incompetent.

EmeraldRoulette · 23/02/2026 19:11

@DancingFerret I think I vaguely remember that

At that point, I was recovering after a nervous breakdown and I didn't really pay much attention to the election and everything around it. Actually, I spent years not paying attention to politics. It was peaceful 😂

I suppose I was just struck because I don't tend to listen to David Starkey. Maybe lots of people have said it, I don't know.

I do remember people saying they would leave the country if Tony Blair got in. But then he did and it didn't seem like quite such a huge problem financially. And they didn't leave.

Good summary. I also think Labour are hoping that a slow burn until the actual vote will limit the rebellion. Their inboxes must be overflowing right now.

Yes they have definitely been gaming the SEN reform out as manipulatively as possible. If only they’d shown this level of political strategising before. But obviously too many middle class parents have been having fun with the ehcp system and that must be cracked down on…

I hope teachers come out in force. They won't be able to deal with these proposals.

I'm trying not to think too hard about this white paper and the probable implications, its too upsetting. I carry mental scars from getting my dd through the education system, and we had it easy compared to many. I can't think of a worse time to reassess and possibly remove an EHCP than when dc are about to start secondary school. That's when the wheels come off for many dc, including mine.

I watched a bit of Philipson's interview on LK yesterday. Do you remember the very evident shoulder chip she displayed about private schools? It was there again yesterday when talking about independent providers.

So many teachers on here wanted Labour in pre GE.

I can’t look at the education stuff too much, it’s so unbelievably depressing.

Speaking of has @LegoLavabeen around? Hope all is ok.

I can’t watch BP either for that reason - I don’t believe she will improve anything. This is a simple cut and paste of what happens in Scotland and it is not good. That’s another reason dissent won’t coordinate - the people who are through the worst bits like us just can’t bear to think about the bad times again.

the teachers will have been bought off by the extra £4bn being promised upfront I expect...

Yep, got my head in the sand and sitting on my hands rn. Counting my blessings that chapter is over for my dd, but can't think too much about what's to come for others.

Yes would love to see @legolava back.

I read this earlier, and couldn’t believe it. Staggeringly horrendous. Those poor parents and kids. It’s too much, too convoluted. It’s almost like they don’t want to be clear. Opaque and useless. Much like the school rating reforms - meaning no one has any idea really how good or bad a school is.

A primary school aged girl in a red school uniform looks at the camera as she sits in class. Another student, also a girl in seen in the foreground looking down. A teacher talks to someone else in the background.

The key changes being made to special educational needs - at a glance

The government has set out broad changes it will make to the SEND system in England in the coming years.
