How long do you spend on your phones arguing with complete strangers about stuff that probably never happened?

Your time on this planet is finite.

I'm just about to delete mine. 😘

OP posts:

I don’t argue with anyone on here. I enjoy the laughs, the advice and the ‘sisterhood’ for want of a better word.

If you’re arguing with strangers then maybe the internet isn’t for you. Enjoy your peace.

justsaying1232 · 07/02/2026 13:53

I’ve been on here for 17 years and never use it to argue!

LilyBunch25 · 07/02/2026 13:53

You've started a thread about deleting an account on the account you're about to delete....?🤔

TaffetaPhrases · 07/02/2026 13:54

Ok bye

Tontostitis · 07/02/2026 13:54

Off.you.pop then

LamentableShoes · 07/02/2026 13:57

My head says you're right, OP, but my heart knows how boring my train commute is...

ProfessorRedshoeblueshoe · 07/02/2026 13:58

This is not an airport. You do not have to announce your departure.

BreadInCaptivity · 07/02/2026 13:58

No thanks. Been here a long time and happy to stay.

It’s easy to scroll past the bun fights and avoid certain topics if you choose to in my experience 🤷‍♀️

What have you decided to do instead? If you don't fill that void with something else then you will be drawn back here (or another sm) when bored.

Far better to decide not to argue in the first place. I've learnt to reply once to explain/clarify then refuse to respond again to goady fuckers. I don't have notifications set on here which helps enormously.

FeliciaFancybottom · 07/02/2026 14:00

Don't let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya!

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 07/02/2026 14:01

Since you only have been using this username since yesterday, I'll choose to ignore your advice thanks.

Iwontbethere · 07/02/2026 14:02

Nope. I don't argue with anyone, it doesn't serve me.

This, Sometimes I won't even bother to clarify though, if I feel that it is not worth my time. There are some posters, that no matter what is said, will just keep coming back in a manner, that I just don't wish to engage with.

DiscoPants2000 · 07/02/2026 14:06

I don’t argue with strangers online - I don’t use mn or any type of social media to have those kinds of conversations. I like the light hearted stuff, I don’t really read the heavier topics.

If it’s making you feel bad or negative in anyway, then you should delete.

LadiDahnya · 07/02/2026 14:09

Isnt there a flouncers corner?
Yes its still there...just checked...

WineBeforeWhine · 07/02/2026 14:11

I Don’t argue with anyone because I’m always right 😊

Yes I've increasingly started to do the same - mostly baby name threads, food, how often do you shower/hoover etc or wedding outfits to keep it light! Or mums in a tricky stage of parenting who need a bit of support.

People do get grumpy.

Occasionally I see a thread where I think a child or teen is getting a raw deal and feel compelled to say something to point out their position, but generally I have got so I can't be bothered saying anything on a topic that is too meaningful.

But it's such a good "amuse bouche" between work tasks! You can just flick tabs and see what's been happenin' since you last posted! Total distraction, but I try to ignore the RTFT admonishments if I simply don't have time.

Me too I’ve been here 22 years, all good MN ones

EmpressaurusKitty · 07/02/2026 14:15

I’ve made several IRL friends via Mumsnet, & learned a lot about feminism & cats. Good enough reasons to stay.

ElizabethsTailor · 07/02/2026 14:15

Surely you just need to choose when and how to engage?

I very rarely argue on here. Ironically, a genuine exception was this morning was when I felt I had to “challenge” (as MN tend to phrase it) a couple of posters in very specific circumstances. However, generally I just don’t let myself get emotionally invested in that kind of interaction.

However, I have had huge amounts of support, some great laughs, and absolutely loads of really knowledgable and diverse advice over the years. I love the active engagement of a broad community of (mostly) women from pretty much all sociopolitical backgrounds and ranging from age approximately 15 to 90+. It’s unique and invaluable.

So I’m staying, thanks 🙂

dizzydizzydizzy · 07/02/2026 14:17

You have a point. I'll probably stay. But I do get fed up with people who don't agree or don't believe me telling me I am "naive" or "full of shit". I enjoy a good debate with people of opposing opinions until they start slinging mud at me.

You put it so much better than me! Succinct and very accurate 😁

The only thing that occasionally makes me want to delete my account is the worry that the site could get hacked and all usernames/email adds leaked like Twitter did a few years back. That could be a problem for a lot of people.

That's already happened on this site, mine was on the huge list of usernames (an old one), our email addresses and passwords were all released 🙃
