"He looked as though he hadn't slept in about a week"

"He looked like somebody who might be violent".

He is totally making it up.

eta: did Zahawi have these concerns about his safety in London before he joined Reform?

Edited

He did post a photo of a homeless person sleeping in Mayfair a few years ago

As Trump would say, just smile more

Nadhim Zahawi thinks London is now unsafe, because the other day a tired-looking man walked past him during the morning rush hour.

That's crazy because the other day my friend was on his way home from a nightshift and some guy in a suit took one look at him and jumped into the middle of the road. We really need to do something about the drugs crisis. Etc etc.

I love the idea of people just panicking when they see each other for no reason. And I'm quite risk averse/alert to my surroundings. But I'm not leaping into traffic because someone walked towards me on a public footpath

countrygirl99 · 13/02/2026 13:42

I'm even older than Cardibach, I'm 5'2 at a stretch and I manage to walk round London just fine.

PandoraSocks · 13/02/2026 13:46

I am 5'3" and when we go to London I am pushing my DH, who would fall over if you poked him with your finger, in a wheelchair. So we are prime targets. All we ever get is offers of help.

placemats · 13/02/2026 14:27

Maybe the man is a Tory supporter (they do exist) and recognised Zahawi. Started singing Walk on By in his head. Of all the approximately 110,000 streets in London...

I had exactly the same experience with DS in his wheelchair not long ago. Fair enough I'm tall, but still.

I really am, amazing to see Bergsma win bronze aged 40. Also the shorttrack yesterday - holy wow!

And the women's 5000, never seen it that close.

It's been great fun so far.

There’s a tired guy somewhere wondering why some weird guy just randomly walked down the middle of the road in a nice upmarket area of London.

You’d just cross the road if you felt threatened wouldn’t you? Why walk in the road?

It was rush hour, so I guess the traffic might have been moving slowly and therefore was no threat (at least compared to Tired Man) since presumably he could just walk around the slowly moving cars while gesticulating and talking to himself about the dangerous men?

That’s exactly my experience of visiting with ds who is in his wheelchair. He has even has people flee from priority seats for him like it’s an Olympic sport version of musical chairs.

He actually has to thank them but decline nicely pointing out he’s brought own 😉🤣

cardibach · 13/02/2026 21:59

Watching the Olympics. Go Matt Weston!
But what happened to Ilia Malinin?

Evenstar · 13/02/2026 22:02

I wonder if there was a problem with the ice, I have never seen so many falls 😮

What happened to everyone? Bless the guy from Kazakhstan though. Took him a while for it to sink in he’d won.

That was the maddest free skate I've ever seen.

Am amused that for all the supposed support Reform are alleged to have,. whenever an actually policy (or something which identifies as a policy) is suggested, it turns out to be less than appealing.

It's hard not to build the impression that they are making shit up and seeing which produces the more favourable outcome - known in some circles as A/B testing and being birthed in the utter bollocks that is "agile development"

In news that will give some hope and make others green with envy, we have 3 windows open this morning. The sky is crystal clear blue, and it is utter still at 0C. From Birmingham with love.

From Starmer's speech at the European Security Council:

"We are not the Britain of the Brexit years anymore.

"Because we know that in a dangerous world, we would not take control by turning inward, we would surrender it.

“And I won't let that happen."

Starmer says the US is an indispensable ally but calls for building a more European Nato, underpinned by "deeper links".

Starmer says he will pursue “closer economic alignment” with the EU.

“We must look at where we can move closer to the single market… the prize here is greater security and stronger growth.”

OP posts:
DuncinToffee · 14/02/2026 11:08

Starmer reaffirmed that the UK would defend any NATO country that comes under attack under Article 5.

“Be in no doubt, if called upon the UK would come to your aid today.”

I wonder who that was aimed at ?

Oh true that.

SerendipityJane · 14/02/2026 11:19

And SCRUM. I mean who the fuck can sit though a meeting talking about SCRUM masters, agile sprint and morning ceremonies and be sure of their life choices ?

In fact, the more I ponder, the more it is clear that we have shit politics because it became infected with the shit business practices that ensure the UKs productivity is never going to threaten the world. Truly a microcosm of society.
