A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙🩵

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

I was discussing the whole mess with a Labour-voting friend today. She's despairing about what's going on. Agrees that Starmer is toast!

This clinging on is just unedifying. Get on and resign, mate. Your time is up!

EasternStandard · 06/02/2026 19:09

Just heard a clip from Barry Gardiner Labour MP. He defo wants Starmer out.

boyleslaw · 06/02/2026 19:11

Didn’t Barry Gardiner take money from China ?

I don’t know him tbh he just did a really dramatic line and sounded very annoyed about the Mandelson affair

boyleslaw · 06/02/2026 19:15

Sorry …via a company attached to the Chinese Embassy. So not China obviously

On BBC 6 o’Clock News , Neil Duncan-Jordan ( MP for Poole ) says that “ We can’t just keep going on like this… and one of the best ways of resetting is to have a renewal of the Labour Party, to restart our offer to the British Public and that means changing who is in charge. “ So no General Election, obviously. Let’s just let the Labour Party shuffle the pack and have another go at being in charge. We may be better next time😩😩

Haha. I heard similar from John McDonald. Don't know whether to laugh or cry at them.

The more the merrier. 😁
Although Labour are embarrassingly bad at regiside. They'll probably fuck this up too.

I see that penalty for not filing timely forms for the Rwanda contract seems to have doubled from the initially floated £50m to £100m. Dickheads.

EmeraldRoulette · 06/02/2026 19:35

Labour are bound to say that though aren't they?

Again, they will point to their majority in 2024.

I agree with @DancingFerret that the mood is ugly, but i'm basing that on a vibe. As I say, if I talk to people in the pub, I'm going to get told to give them more of a chance... or get told that the alternatives are absolutely unacceptable.

You and I are definitely going to different pubs Emerald😁

Edited

OH for goodness sake 🙈

EmeraldRoulette · 06/02/2026 20:40

@Upstartled @boyleslaw I want to go to your pubs!

to put it in context, the thing I go to is more of a local social thing. It's not just randoms in the pub if you see what I mean. So I think people are very conscious that they need to be careful of controversial topics.

We've all essentially met up because it's quite hard to meet people - so there's more of a preference to keep it lighthearted than there would be if we all known each other for years, if that makes sense?

Oh, that is trickier. The mood in my local (conservative constituency in an area packed with self employed and business owners, the mood is very anti-labour) Hell, even the delivery guy who was rooting for them at the general election is in despair with their performance.

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 06/02/2026 22:19

Things feel a bit odd now. There seems to be a consensus among Westminster journalists that Starmer has no support in his party at all. But that there’s not enough will to boot him out.

The absence of support seems to me to be because he’s a terrible, uninspiring PM and, crucially, because he doesn’t represent any Labour philosophy or faction that Labour MPs or the grassroots can recognise. There’s nothing to be loyal to.

The lack of a successor or chance of a fresh start looks like an effect of the dearth of talent in the party and no ideas for government.

Labour is hollow. It’s staring blankly at the country, completely unsure of itself and becoming ever more frightened of the job of governing.

CaveMum · 06/02/2026 22:39

Newsnight saying Ange is distancing herself from the decision to appoint Mandy.

They also say they can’t see anything happening before May as who would want to preside over the kicking they’re likely to get?

InterestQ · 06/02/2026 22:44

Labour seem paralysed by indecision. I think it’s lack of experience and they aren’t used to being in government and they’ve only had this guy as headmaster. What now? What iF the next one is worse? She didn’t pay her taxes after all. We don’t want her trounced in PMQS over and over!

EasternStandard · 06/02/2026 22:48

He didn’t help himself at that press conference. His tone and responses. No wonder the MPs are feeling angrier and journos not onside.

Mandy is trying to silence the press using a clause in the editor's code to protect grieving families from press intrusion. Deliciously, the National Scot has decided to publish his whiny demand in full.

The full secret notice Peter Mandelson just sent to all UK media | The National https://share.google/vO1GxO3X0QGFphFiW

Angela Rayner and allies ramping up pressure on Starmer

Angela Rayner warned Sir Keir Starmer against appointing Lord Mandelson as US ambassador, friends of the former deputy prime minister have claimed.

She privately advised Sir Keir not to give him the position because of public evidence that he maintained a friendship with Jeffrey Epstein after his conviction for child sex offences.

But the Prime Minister ignored the warnings, preferring to believe the disgraced peer’s claim that he “barely knew” the paedophile financier, according to The Times.

MNLurker1345 · 06/02/2026 23:31

No @DenizenOfAisleOfShame there is not enough will to boot him out because what and who comes next.

It is such a stark contrast between the battle of the threads, this consensus; this government really is not working and supporters threads; of the consensus that Starmer’s government is better than the damage done by the conservatives. One wrong does not excuse the current wrongs and this government is not better.

You rightfully say it is hollow. This labour government is not governing. Commentary is telling us that this government is managing decline. Who on earth supports that? What has this country come to, that a labour government is managing decline? Anyone that is on this thread that voted labour, is that what you voted for?

Blame it on the Tories, but this grown up government was supposed to fix it, according to their manifesto.

EmeraldRoulette · 07/02/2026 00:20

@DenizenOfAisleOfShame that's brilliantly put

But incredibly worrying because if they haven't got the will to step forward now, they certainly haven't got the will or the ability to run a country.

@MNLurker1345 are you talking about that expression "managed decline"? That was used about the Thatcher government as well. What was the context in which you saw it? I'm just trying to figure out if it's the same reference.

TwoTierBbq · 07/02/2026 08:17

Of all the people to step up ,the one who had to leave in disgrace ?
The sheer bare faced gall of these people ! Just shows how they really feel about their bad deeds.
