A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙🩵

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

I tried watching QT. Nope. I lasted 5 minutes.

Fiona Bruce trying to spread some of the blame for Mandy to the tories and Reform with gotcha questions! They didn't employ him ffs, Labour did. Nothing to do with any of the other parties. 🤬

Yes, Fiona Bruce was not impartial and she had just a little too much to say, IMO, over-talking the panelists in a way I'd not noticed before,

It was Emma Reynolds, batting for Labour and carrying a flag for Starmer in particular, who really annoyed me - so smug, full of Labour's so-called achievements, whilst reiterating Starmer wasn't to blame for appointing Mandelson because he'd not been given all the facts. Predictably, she's another one who read PPE at Oxford.

The subject of student loans was also discussed, not least the way in which Labour has increased the outstanding balance and effectively broken the contract. Student loans and Blair's decree that 50 percent of school leavers should go to university is one of my bugbears for many reasons.

Happily, our TV is still intact - probably only because DH had the remote tucked out of harm's way.

My eldest grandson is going to private school in September. His parents have saved and worked since he was born. They've built up three businesses, skipped holidays, hang onto cars for years. But you can bet there'll be some comments about being lucky, inheritance, bank of grandpa. None of which are true. It's just bloody hard work.

Ive had to keep my mouth firmly shut with other parents at times at the school gate for 35 years.

Why is it okay to go on lovely holidays, visit Disney, have trips to London. Get out every weekend, lease new cars every three years. But invest your money in education is a swear word.

I think there's some improvement in attitudes to private healthcare, not a huge swing, but people aren't apologetic about it any more. And don't hide it.

One option being discussed by some MPs is a delegation of Labour select committee chairs being sent to tell Starmer his time is up. “He’s a decent man and he might be persuaded to see that it’s not working,” said one MP.

The problem, as one Labour official observed, is that nobody can be sure who would win the contest. “The left hate Wes and the right can’t stand Angela or Ed [Miliband, energy secretary].”

One Labour MP said Starmer’s leadership was “over and done”, adding: “The only questions left are when, how and how painful.”

Too infuriating. What on earth has it got to do with those parties? Sounds even worse than some on here who mention ‘the tories’ or ‘right wingers’ in every post.

No wonder the BBC are losing licence fees.

justasking111 · 06/02/2026 07:24

Fiona Bruce should stick to antiques. She's the worst kind of champagne socialist.

Januaryescape · 06/02/2026 07:33

the double standards between private healthcare and education have always bothered me.
because, what, health matters whereas…?

i don’t like FB on QT either, no attempt at a real
debate anymore.

Can’t bear her - the smug superiority.

The weather may continue to be inclement, but there is a definite sense of Printemps in the air!

Happy Friday everyone!

I'm still angry this morning. Dh doesn't share my politics, but he had the same response to the 5 minutes we watched. He even rewound the bit where Bruce gave an audible sigh as she turned away from Lopez (con).
Unbelievable that some on the left are playing whatabouterry when the subject matter is association with a convicted paedophile.

Good luck to them I say. You're right, the attitude from some towards PS is awful. Jealousy most likely.

Very pleased to see that result from Anglesey, particularly after QT lastnight.

There's a story on the front of one of the other papers this morning about Labour’s 'women in grey suits' knocking on Starmer's door to tell him to go.
Labour’s women MPs were particularly vocal and angry in the debate on Wednesday, rightly so. It would be doubly delicious if its the women who bring him down.

Wonderful, and rightly so.

They have larger minerals than the so-called men in this awful government.

That’d be fantastic. He’s so deluded though he’ll likely not listen. What are the chances he will?

I guess we’ll see. I wonder who will replace him.

It's been a joy to read FB social media re the election results yesterday. The kickings were mostly reserved for Plaid for being a worse version of labour. They haven't forgotten about the petition against the 20 mph everywhere signed by over 460k people and ignored by the senedd. The tourists tax which many say they won't collect. The schools, the god awful health board in special measures. They're dancing in the streets.

The new reform leader is a farmer apparently with bags of experience in Barnet council.

Can't wait to hear the senedd response to this result

Electoral Dysfuntion pod is worth a listen this week. I rarely agree with Harriet Harman but she is spot on with her comments about Mandy and Starmer.
She is furious at Starmer playing the blame game at his presser on Thursday, and also tells a few tales about Mandelson's history of misogyny.

That seems rather high handed for someone who got hoodwinked into endorsing the peadophile information exchange.

I was just reading her comments online. Good the more frustration aimed at Starmer the better.

I’m feeling a bit more positive that he will go than I did yesterday.

Jakers the police are searching Mandelsons homes 😯

boyleslaw · 06/02/2026 18:24

On BBC 6 o’Clock News , Neil Duncan-Jordan ( MP for Poole ) says that “ We can’t just keep going on like this… and one of the best ways of resetting is to have a renewal of the Labour Party, to restart our offer to the British Public and that means changing who is in charge. “ So no General Election, obviously. Let’s just let the Labour Party shuffle the pack and have another go at being in charge. We may be better next time😩😩

I think the response to that is, "In his dreams."

Public disgust is mounting and the idea Labour should be allowed to change their leader and muddle through for another three years is pie in the sky. Something will give, and we can only hope civil unrest isn't the outcome. Given the damage they've done to the economy and the sheer number of people they've managed to upset in the past 18 months I don't think I'm being unduly pessimistic. The mood is ugly.

There are hardcore Labour supporters on MN, but irl I've not met anyone who'll be sad to see the back of them.
