A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙🩵

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

@NoWordForFluffy “There is a concentrated campaign against him in the press. How long can he cling on?”

I’m not convinced there is a concentrated press campaign against Starmer.

The DT clearly is hostile, that’s obvious, but much of the centrist media acts as part of this government’s briefing strategy rather than in opposition to it.

Starmer’s modus operandi is control through briefings. Difficult or controversial stories are routinely released late on Friday nights or early Sunday mornings, so by Monday morning the message is “nothing to see here.”

It’s less a hostile press campaign than a managed one, and so far, people on the whole seem to accept it.

I'm going to have to phrase this very carefully

In terms of what Labour voters thought they were voting for, I think some of them actively welcome the global approach that he takes. And they would have the same reaction to seeing a flag as Emily Thornberry had. That's only from some of the ones I know.

Of course there would've been an element of just getting rid of the Tories. Or perhaps people who aren't really paying attention and thought he would be another version of Tony Blair - and thought that was a good thing.

wrt to the misrepresented clip about Matt Goodwin and Manchester, I thought that kind of thing had to be reported to the electoral commission - not the police? Or does it have to go via the police first? Maybe that's the protocol.

I think it probably should be with the electoral commission, because the knowingly false duplicity of his character though this radical editing was implied but not explicitly stated (she says, like I know what I'm talking about and haven't just done a quick Google)

But saying that, they probably couldn't give a stuff about it, it's leverage to demonstrate that Labour is trying to hoodwink the electorate with misinformation - along side their long running accusations that the establishment is contemptuous about voters, and 'police' reads better in the column inches than electoral commission.

Starmer strikes deal giving Britons visa-free travel to China for up to 30 days.

Oh well thank goodness for that. Absolutely life changing for 70million British people. Thank goodness we have Sir Starmer looking out for the little people.

What’s underneath this? What do they get in return?

It’s something no one was asking for here.

I think the first part of this is very well put. (So is the second, but it’s the first I wanted to comment on.)

I do think Starmer is genuine in the narrow sense that he does believe in international law, treaties, accords and so on. And I think quite a few Labour and LibDem supporters think the same way.

To me it’s a rather unpleasant and foolish view of the world because it comes from a belief that the UK is somehow less decent or worthwhile than other countries or groups of other countries. Even decades ago Orwell ridiculed this left-wing knee-jerk denigration of the UK.

It’s also a naive point of view.

But I do believe Starmer has real faith in it.

What is equally obvious about Starmer is his nauseating ambition. He is a terrible negotiator and deal maker because he can’t live with the idea of public failure. Everyone else is sacrificed to his ego. So we get shit deals, with the EU, with the US, with China, with Mauritius…

If you look at what rattles and frightens him - civil unrest, backbench anger, challenges from cabinet colleagues, failure in international agreements, etc - it’s all about damage to his own standing. He’s a horrible, incapable little man.

Fantastic news, what a negotiator 🙄

peacefulpeach · 29/01/2026 14:03

Sir Keir Starmer campaigned for Waspi women did he not? He was on their side. Apparently not any more - as Labour reject their appeal for fair payments. Does that count as another U turn.

Of course we have the charming Torsten Bell showing us All, what the Labour Party really thinks of the plebs. Well the ones who don’t fit their bill of people who deserve free cash anyway.

Labour has been stringing the WASPI women along for some time.

Torsten Bell needs a good slap.

Upstartled · 29/01/2026 14:09

Starmer dropped the Waspi women as soon as Labour came into power. I don't think we could keep a list long enough if it were to include pre and post g.e. u-turns.

38thparallel · 29/01/2026 14:13

Apparently he opened up closed cases pro bono to hound veterans.

This is so shocking. Has Starmer replied?
I wish veterans could bring a case against him.

Interesting article by Rod Liddle in the Spectator today on how our state broadcasting network managed to report on Holocaust Memorial Day without mentioning the word Jew once.

I don't seem to have a gift option. But I've nicked a bit ..

I was intrigued to learn from the BBC Today programme on Tuesday that ‘buildings across the UK will be illuminated this evening to mark Holocaust Memorial Day, which commemorates the six million people murdered by the Nazi regime more than 80 years ago’. Who were these unfortunate ‘people’, I wondered? Just anyone at all? Was it a wholly indiscriminate spot of slaughter? I have some vague memory that it was one race in particular that was singled out for extermination, but the BBC dared not say their name.
In fact, the sentence I quoted is wholly inaccurate: the ‘six million’ figure relates only to Jewish people. If you include the homosexuals, Sinti, Roma, disabled and Russian prisoners of war, then you would have to come up with another figure – some say as many as 11 million – who were murdered by the Nazis.
....
This is how lies get propagated, by what might seem the slenderest of infractions. You gerrymander the vocabulary, you change the story – and right now, I would suggest, the left is attempting to do so on a number of fronts. You will be aware that anti-Semitic attacks have been at their highest level in the UK since records began and a subtle change in how we describe the Holocaust gently feeds into that climate of racial hatred.

EmeraldRoulette · 29/01/2026 14:31

@Upstartled I think the BBC did that last year or the year before maybe

clearly a decision made at the very top

It makes me feel absolutely nauseous.

@DenizenOfAisleOfShame thank you for saying that, I phrased it as carefully as I could. However, to that end, I don't think Starmer is negotiating badly in terms of what he wants. And what he wants is not in the interest of the country. Again, I'm having to be very careful what I say here, but I don't think he sees his own country as any kind of priority.

I heard all the stuff about the legal cases with soldiers a couple of days ago and it was one of those moments where I had to step away from the Internet because I was just so furious.

What a plank.

Oh great - let’s all holiday in China this year.

I think not.

Labour's twitter account reads as though it's run by a 12 year old.

This is a reaction to being caught out clipping footage and misrepresenting Goodwin. What the hell are the comms team thinking
