Did anyone else who went to primary school in the mid-80s have to do PE in their vest and pants?

I was telling my colleagues who are in their twenties about it and they looked at me like this: 🙄

Did anyone else experience this? Or was my school slightly strange?

I started infant school in 1989 and all junior and infant classes did PE in vest and pants. Was still happening when I left around 1994.

I remember in year 6 one of the girls getting bullied because she was an early developer and had large boobs. She was the only one in an actual bra which she found embarrassing and most others found hilarious. I always felt so sorry for her and the teachers did nothing to help the situation. Would it really have killed them to let her wear a tshirt? Female teacher too so you’d think she’d have had understood.

I hated PE as we had no money and my mum used to buy me second hand underwear from the charity shop 😣. I only had a handful of pairs, certainly not enough for a clean pair each day.

Yes, (normal underwear vest and pants), at primary school (80s)
In the 90s we had horrific pe knickers, as part of the PE kit. I feel embarrassed just thinking about how awful they were. I tried wearing cycling shorts instead once for a (optional) lunchtime club when it was really freezing and i wasnt allowed to partake until I went back to put the awful knickers on

And navy knickers & airtex top for grammar school (1990's)

Once had to do PE in my top and my mum's knickers as I didn't have any clean ones and she had to tie the sides together as they were too big

Omg I've never seen that but yes it was exactly like that .I was still in the infants so pretty young but I came still remember the shame 🤣🤣

Don't know about the 80s, but in my primary PE kit was underwear right up until Year 6 😳
Even in secondary (and I only left in 2019 just before COVID) I once had do PE in just bra and knickers when I didn't have my PE kit 😳

People just had less stuff and cheap clothes weren't available, so yes, it was normal to us!
