Just that. Interested to see if anyone says what I'm thinking...

Dubai.

I really don’t get the hype with Dubai. I hate it

I’m scandalised to see jeju island on this list ! 😂

I went there when I lived in Seoul on a weekend trip, paid for by my friends workplace.

We had to go to some kind of food tasting festival but apart from that we just drove around and ate and went to beaches.

It had a very good relaxing vibe and I had a lot of fun BUT I accept I was only there for a weekend so it may be different living there! I think I was also lucky going with a group of Koreans and getting driven around everywhere.

Have you been to Busan? That was my favourite place in Korea.

Jeju just didn't suit me.
Tons of mosquitoes.
I found it a bit maudlin and I think I stayed a few days too long.
And I was on my own too - which didn't help.
Should have sorted out an international driver's licence, so I could have hired a car.
Had to depend on local buses.

I do like Busan.
Seoul I love and know very well.

Malta - I liked Valetta but that was it really, it felt half finished, not very exciting geographically or food wise or things to look at wise....

Ducksbehindthesofa · 26/01/2026 11:51

Brussels
Lanzarote
Weston-super-Mare

Oneisnotamused · 26/01/2026 12:07

Paris. And I consider myself a culture vulture but the City of Romance it is not. If you ignore the angry men hassling you at every historical building and the stench, and the obnoxious Parisians (the rest of the French are lovely and welcoming but Parisians clearly despise you & each other,) and the pickpockets at every corner, the overpricing and the dirty, dirty streets…. then I suppose you could get on with it. But IMHO it’s the one capital city that does not become itself

Have you been to Broadway during the Christmas, new year period at twilight though? Magical when the lights on the trees come on.

That’s where I stayed the first time and the second was out at S H Farmhouse. Just wasn’t for me but appreciate it’s probably a dream place for lots.

I really tried when visiting Brussels with the DC a few years ago, but could not find much of interest. It didn't help that it was a bitterly cold, grey day, so we vetoed the planned trip to the Atomium. But after we'd seen the Grande Place and surrounding streets, tried and failed to find a decent, kid friendly meal on the go (it seemed to be either pricey traditional sit down meals, or just chips- so that's what we had!), visited a historic shopping arcade and sampled some lovely chocolate eggs, there seemed little left except the comic book museum- in a much vaunted historical building which was- well- OK I guess....and although I enjoyed it, the DC were really miffed it didn't even have a section on Herve and Tintin!

Foggytree · 26/01/2026 12:33

Was recommended Lee on the Solent by 2 unconnected people who were saying its a jewel of the South Coast.

Very little there.

Luxembourg.

Blackpool is absolutely dire.

We recently visited Lytham which isn’t far away and decided to drive back through Blackpool to see “the lights”. We were shocked at just how bad it’s got but asked the dc’s if they wanted to get out for fish n chips and a go in the arcade.

The fact it was a resounding “NOOoooo!!” even from children speaks volumes!

I always have an intense kind of Schadenfreude when Strictly goes to Blackpool and the celebrities can't stop gushing about it. They should send them to film some of the backstreets, mere yards from the Tower Ballroom. That would shut them up.

("Schadenfreude" isn't quite the right word, which would be something to express my joy at the exposure of the celebrities' hypocrisy. There'll be another German word for that sensation, I'm sure.)

ChiefAngel I mean Sacrilege man! The Natural History Museum is one of my top favourites.Went there quite a lot when DC was small. DS now newly married late 20s, and went there with his young wife .They enjoyed it (have been a couple of times now I think) Whats not to like : Dinosaurs on a metal platform you can view at eye level .Learning about Birds ,Mammals, and minerals.Finding out about Volcanoes .The list is endless!

Also, we arrived by Eurostar (Interrailing), and Brussels Midi is the Worst Station Ever. Fact.

I've been to Malta twice for a week each time and never had enough time to visit all the bits of it I wanted to. Not even all the buildings and museums in Valetta alone. I could easily do at least another fortnight and see something new each day I reckon.

Lanzarote

An island built just for people who want to stay in their resorts all day by the pool and eating school dinners

Our resort was surrounded by what can only be called 'wasteland'

Nowhere to go, nothing to do. We hired a car and travelled the whole island on day 2 and I sat DH down and said shall we just book a flight and go home.

We like to explore and stay busy. Even our 2 year old hated it. Longest week ever

JackJarvisEsq · 26/01/2026 13:23

Luxembourg. Blink and you would have missed it

To me lanzarote was a hidden gem which blew me away. It’s absolutely stunning and unspoilt. We found some wonderful galleries and vineyards and villages and the most fabulous food

Ahh okay when I went it was autumn weather, no mosquitos that I recall.

I think my (Korean) friends hired a few cars so yeah we didn’t take the bus at all.

.
Perhaps I didn’t notice as I was with a big bunch of people and everything was paid for so it was a bit of a novelty.

I cant even remember exactly why my friends workplace paid for us all to spend a weekend in jeju with her, but I’m not complaining.

Yeah Seoul and Busan are great cities IMO

Tratoir · 26/01/2026 14:13

I see Brussels has been mentioned a fair few times since I last posted about it. Good - Keep up the Brussels slander! 😄

There’s no other major city I can remember disliking, but I just didn’t like that place at all.

Arran2024 · 26/01/2026 14:17

Some of the places mentioned aren't boring. Take Blackpool for example - down at heel, tacky, yes, but not boring. The people watching alone is fantastic. It has a Waterstones!

PermanentTemporary · 26/01/2026 14:20

Easter Sunday in Providence, Rhode Island ( it improved a lot once everything opened up but the entire city was shut that day).

Winchester - that never improved

Stoke on Trent - that really was not a good holiday

MonsteraDeliciosa · 26/01/2026 15:19

Had to spend a day in Cherbourg in November. Dullest place ever.
It has a nice big maritime museum, but it was closed as it was Monday.

AS IF they even leave the Tower! Probably get airlifted straight from the top to their hotel in Manchester or somewhere!

Yes. The agents probably have a clause in their contracts: "Must not encounter an actual inhabitant of Blackpool."

Actually yes, you’re right - I had completely forgotten the thread title was “most boring place” and replaced it with “hideous”!
