@NinePoppadomsAndASaagAloo I enjoyed that. Although I also like museums about toilets and tiles, so maybe im
not a good judge

Aw, I loved Rotterdam and Brussels. The cube houses, the amazing market building, lots of nice places to eat in Rotterdam. The Grand' Place, doing at your of chocolate shops, the Magritte museum in Brussels, lovely outdoor cafes everywhere.

Mine was L.A. Endless multi-lane highways with thousands of exits, no feeling of a centre, and air pollution so thick that the mountains vanished in it. I love plenty of cities but L.A. felt soulless.

I have had a really good time in Rotterdam on the couple of occasions I've been but it's somewhere you need local knowledge for. It's a bit like Manchester in that it's industrial and not particularly touristy. It's actually something that we and our Dutch friends talked about. Great city with lots of hidden gems but not really somewhere to go unless you have that. Not when there's lots of other Dutch cities which do offer more to tourists. It's a 'real' Dutch city for Dutch people if that makes sense.

I do totally get where you are coming from, though unlike a lot of responses on this thread for places I've been.

Stevenage! Seemed to be a grey and soulless town of mini roundabouts! Sooo many bloody roundabout getting there and then whilst there!

Redcar
Not even shitty enough to be scary

If the beach north of Redcar up to South Gare at the mouth of the Tees was anywhere else, it would be legendary. it's

UK - Bridlington
Abroad - Cape Verde

I agree with a pp about North Devon - really dull. And constant rain. Ipswich doesn't have anything to recommend it. And I didn't particularly enjoy a holiday in rural Norfolk.

Tunisia was awful when I went about 30 years ago.

I love Iceland, Berlin and Rome though. And even enjoyed a few days in Oslo . And Las Vegas isn't my idea of a lovely place to go on holiday, but I wouldn't call it boring.

Natural history museum. Cannot understand why people rave about it.

This was my first thought too.

Sleepingwiththelightson · 25/01/2026 22:24

Cartmel. Just no.
Wales, rude people.
Florida with young children, you’ll be disappointed they’re not more thrilled.

SunshineOnARainyLeith · 25/01/2026 19:58

No point going then (sorry for the awful pun)

V&M may have been lead to believe it was worthwhile, but I'm not sure there's much point carbon about it. 🤷‍♀️

MsVisual · 25/01/2026 22:26

Hanging Gardens of Babylon - just a glorified garden centre

The tank museum in Dorset. Never want to see another tank in my life. There were just too many tanks, I mean I know the clue is in the name, but there were just too many. I really hate tanks now.

I went there around 25 years ago with very enthusiastic 10ish year old. It was interesting at first but became slow torture, as there were yet more tanks, and yet more tanks to see. He was loving it- I was hoping for the end of the world, or at least the end of the bloody tanks.

ProfessionalPirate · 25/01/2026 23:06

Controversial but - the Lake District. I already live in a very picturesque part of rural Britain and while the Lake District has a certain charm, it’s just not enough to compensate for the weather and lack of stuff to do (beyond going for walks).

Abroad - Kos.

Norfolk 🫣

Oh no! Why? I love the area...

Disasterclass · 25/01/2026 23:13

Norfolk. But that might be based on a spectacular ly boring holiday with the in-laws.
Adelaide is pretty boring, especially compared to all the other amazing places in Australia

Nevermind17 · 25/01/2026 13:59

Milan. Admittedly it has a spectacular cathedral and a very boujee Trafford Centre, but that’s as much as I could see. People rave about it so there’s obviously a lot that I missed but I couldn’t find it!

If you ever make if there again go and see Leonardos Last Supper.Ive been twice whilst in Milan, amazing.

Madeira. So so boring. Over 20 years ago but jeez nothing there. Awful food. Went out of season so it was uk weather too.

Seriously? It has the best hiking and scenery. Forests in the clouds, mountain trails.

PoliteSquid · 25/01/2026 23:15

The Cotswolds - all looks the same! I have family there and we go a lot unfortunately.
Malta - I actually can’t remember much about it other than it was the shittest holiday ever!
Stonehenge - more impressive from the road 🤣
Brighton - I really want to like it, but it’s just crap.

I used to live there. Tell me you weren't there on holiday...

Stonehenge

I agree. As a child, I really wanted to see it but when I finally went as a teenager l was decidedly underwhelmed. At least we were able to walk among the stones then. Many years later, when my daughter was a teenager, we were driving home from our holiday in Devon and were not far from Stonehenge. She wanted to see it and we were amazed that there was a designated car park and underpass to stand outside the fence. It cost ££s for the experience and, judging by the coach loads of American and Japanese tourists, they were raking it in. We drove a little further on round a corner and had a free and totally unblocked view of it. Two minutes was enough for what is basically a pile of large boulders.

pinkspeakers · 25/01/2026 21:11

Huh? Isn't interesting pretty much the exact opposite of boring???

Let me rephrase that… the subject of the museum, say maritime, can be interesting but the museum itself boring.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 25/01/2026 23:26

Heyhelga · 25/01/2026 13:39

Milton Keynes. The centre felt depressingly sterile with no real local identity.

came here to say this. One long road and lots of roundabouts. Sat in their wetherspoons before an Eminem concert

Howtorespond · 25/01/2026 23:36

Venice, which I am sure makes me appalling…

PleaseStopEatingMyStuff · 25/01/2026 23:37

I went to a local theatre many years ago on a date. The "performance" was basically 4 people talking around a table, but on a stage, for about 2.5 hours.
If I'm ever not enjoying something, I just bring that memory up, & then i cheer up a bit because at least I'm not there.

Bitteralmond · 25/01/2026 23:45

The Needles, Isle of Wight. Tacky theme park and extortionate car park.
The aviation museum near Belgrade airport. I had left home at 2am and arrived at Belgrade tired, thirsty and hungry and my Serbian hosts kindly whisked me straight into the adjacent museum.
