Just that. Interested to see if anyone says what I'm thinking...

Nice - a really unpleasant, boring town. Nothing much to do, restaurants very expensive, beach not very nice either. Couldn't wait to leave. The best bit was a train trip to Monaco.,

An ex once took me to a Porsche Owners Club event. Christ on a bike, dozens of mind numbingly dull men discussing braking systems and turbos. 😂

😂

Swansea, mid 1980s

I don't think I have holidayed anywhere boring, but having bad weather can make the holiday feel longer if it restricts your planned activities.

So, I would say a wet fortnight in Puerto Alcudia (because it rained nearly every day) was not the best. Luckily we had booked a car for three days, then decided to hang on to it for another week. Fortunately, while it rained in Alcudia most of the time, it didn't rain everywhere else, so we ended up seeing quite a lot of Majorca in sunshine.

I felt sorry for the holiday makers who couldn't drive because there was literally nothing else to do where we were staying.

I loved Austria for the mountains.. the wild flowers.. the clean fresh air.. the sparkling clear waterfalls.. And it wasn't overcrowded like where I live. 💞

MinnieMountain · 25/01/2026 17:15

@LaurieFairyCake when I went on a night out in Wisbech with a friend who lives in the area 20 years ago, the night club, police station and court were all in a row. Says it all really. I agree that on the face of it, it should be a nice place.

I second Stratford upon Avon. Unless you love Shakespeare there's bugger all to do there.

Whoever said Newport in Wales, I presume you mean Pembrokeshire? Nobody would be mad enough to holiday in Newport Gwent.

Whatwedidnext · 25/01/2026 17:15

Dubai. Dull dull dull

Florence, closely followed by Rome! I just couldn’t get excited about the things I was supposed to get excited about!

Blimey. What DOES get you excited?

The sheer depth and size of Loch Ness in particular boggles me. To think that there is more water in that loch alone, than in all the lakes in England and Wales, is just mind-blowing to me.

I know, you couldn't pay me enough money to swim in that loch, not that I would, but there is something about it I agree..

Depends what you want. We stayed in Bude every year when the kids were younger - we mostly did day trips around Cornwall, but as they got older, we let them go out on their own to the shops, for ice cream, to play mini golf. It felt safe and there was plenty to keep them occupied. It's no worse than many seaside towns imo.

I think Bude is alright! The town centre feels safe and has a couple of good surf shops. Newquay on the other hand is awful.

Carnac in France, drove about an hour to get there and it’s literally just a field full of fairly small stones!

Did you not go to Carnac Plage? It's beautiful!

Casablanca. Absolute dive.

I agree. We did go to Ricks Cafe and an incredible mosque but the town/city itself was dull

i feel sad at all the places that I will never see.

I still want to see
a lot of Switzerland
Forest parts of Germany
More smaller towns in France
Iceland
Slovenia
Slovakia
Finland

With my annual leave, I only really get to do short trips. Isn't it sad all the places that we never see

As you talk about annual leave you are presumably no older than your sixties. You don't mention any other reason to prevent your travelling so why wouldn't you be able to see all those short-haul places? If you planned well you could probably fit four of them in in a year!

Firebird83 · 25/01/2026 17:21

Copenhagen was disappointing

The tank museum in Dorset. Never want to see another tank in my life. There were just too many tanks, I mean I know the clue is in the name, but there were just too many. I really hate tanks now.

Bovington Tank Museum!
I must say, it's quite interesting since it was updated. I remember visiting years ago when it was literally a hangar full of tanks. We bumped into one of my husbands army colleagues who had taken some poor woman there on a date. Fond memories.

I'm surprised to read that. We go to Burley quite often - nice pub called the Burley Inn - and I find it quaint and comforting. It's so pretty too with the horses wandering around the village, and they have right of way!!

They do indeed but I can't shake off that feeling of wanting to escape, I never feel like that about any other village in the New Forest, only Burley, My ILs house backs on to woods and they're convinced there's black magic in the area, that didn't comfort me much when I was dog sitting for them!

Some parts of Norfolk are beyond dull. Having said that we have booked a holiday in Cromer but we want to go and escape from everyone!!

mustwashmycurtains · 25/01/2026 17:28

Reading this thread I feel like quite a few people seem to be ‘taken on’ holidays rather than choose the destinations. Do they do no research beforehand, or just have no say in the choice? Eg why go to Rome if you’re not interested in history? Or rural Austria if you’re expecting excitement?
Possibly I’d agree re Scunthorpe (but I wouldn’t go on holiday there) 😏

I’ve had to go to places I’m not enthused about - largely for work - there is always something of interest once you start looking into it

Redkatagain · 25/01/2026 17:29

Palace of Versailles. If you’re seen one gold chair, you’ve seen ‘em all.
me aged 13.

Cancun mexico

Yeah I get that, I had the pleasure of being there during Spring break, shreeking American teenagers getting pissed everywhere, I wasn't on holiday, I worked for an airline at the time
