Just that. Interested to see if anyone says what I'm thinking...

Malta I found exceptionally dull and I did travel all over.
Germany on a Sunday in the early 90s. (my only visit)

we moved to Germany in 1995 when shops closed at lunch time on a Saturday except for the first Saturday of the month when they were open until 4!

JoyintheMorning · 25/01/2026 16:54

Eden Project, I was fed up before I got in there. They have the worlds slowest humans on the desk selling tickets.
25 mins to get 2 families in. Then everything was worn and grubby.

Which are concrete bollards where wood used to be? 😅

Yep!!

So many fabulous trips, but places I’ll never return to include:

LA - filthy, smoggy, and altogether tedious. Saved by staying in Santa Monica

Brussels - hugely underwhelming

Liverpool - boring, sticky, and every single building / person / event having the most tenuous link to the Beatles.

Devon / Cornwall - both overpriced, full of bad restaurants, and people who hate tourists (I have some sympathy here, I live in a tourist destination, but dear God - just let it go occasionally). Sadly have to return to Devon often for family reasons.

You went to the wrong restaurants in Cornwall. There really are some amazing ones, not just the famous places.

Testarossa44 · 25/01/2026 16:56

Stonehenge left me decidedly underwhelmed…

5128gap · 25/01/2026 16:56

Fueteventura in the 90s. There was nothing to do except the beach, and the wind was so fierce you were sandblasted. The nearest town was one row of shops and a couple of restaurants with nothing but fish and potatoes in various guises on the menu. While stunning at first sight, the moon like landscape became so dull and oppressive after a while. I'm very easily pleased and can find something to enjoy pretty much everywhere, but I struggled there.

Firebird83 · 25/01/2026 16:58

Isle of Wight. We actually came back from the holiday early as it was so boring.

MisterT373 · 25/01/2026 16:59

MOMA in New York. Ex loved modern art whereas I think its all w@nk. Special mention to the cup & spoon made of fur - cue me making drinking from the furry cup comments

CitizenZ · 25/01/2026 16:59

Whilst I appreciate that there are indeed some boring places, many of the destinations I have seen on this list are wildly unwarranted. I conclude that the places weren't boring, the people that visited them were.

Simonjt · 25/01/2026 16:54

Yep!!

We walked from woodhenge to Stonehenge (mostly to avoid the extortionate entry fee) lovely walk across the fields, but both wood (concrete) and Stonehenge were distinctly underwhelmed, the walk was the best bit.

TheGander · 25/01/2026 17:00

I feel a bit bad saying this but Ottawa. Bad because generally Canadians are so kind to visitors. The place is clean and functional but I found Montreal much more interesting and vibey.

JacknDiane · 25/01/2026 17:00

The cotswolds

Malta. Apart from some scuba diving.

That's Malta - with the oldest buildings in Europe, a pair of incredible cathedrals and the walled city of Mdina, amongst other things?

HonestShark · 25/01/2026 17:01

Shepton mallet

Scunthorpe! Sorry, anyone who lives in Scunthorpe!

Not boring (well I think it is!) but my PIL live near Burley in the New Forest, there's a weird vibe there that's suffocating. there is a lot of black magic that happens around there too, we visited them a couple of weeks ago and went to the village pub, we sat by the window and I watched a car go up the hill and out of the village, I couldn't wait to do the same.....odd place

I'm surprised to read that. We go to Burley quite often - nice pub called the Burley Inn - and I find it quaint and comforting. It's so pretty too with the horses wandering around the village, and they have right of way!!

Brands hatch watching noisy cars go round and round dear god no idea why F1 is considered worth viewing or sponsoring so boring, whose going to be fastest who gives a monkeys ?

Me and DH both love F1 and watch everything to do with it - practice, qualifying, drivers' press conference plus, of course, the race.

We both find football and rugby incredibly boring

I feel mean even saying this, but: Podgorica, Montenegro.

To be fair, it was not BAD in any major way; if I had to go back there for a specific purpose - let's say for a work trip or to visit someone - I would not mind. But I think I fell victim to my own stupid idea that because it's the capital and a transit hub it must be a key place to visit in the country. The reality was a centre of about four city blocks composed mainly of shops and bars surrounded by a lot of typical C/E European low budget market tack and some pleasant enough streets and residential neighbourhoods but nothing special from the perspective of a random tourist/visitor without a local connection.

Montenegro is beautiful and interesting but I would instead allocate time to: the walled city of Kotor; Cetinje (the old/historical capital, dubbed by Rebecca West "the stormproof roof of Europe"); Lake Skader and Ulcinj, the old pirate enclave on the southern border with Albania; coastal resorts like Herceg Novi/Perast/Budva (best in warm weather); the island of Sveti Stefan (day trip); Durmitor and/or Lovcén (National Parks); Biogradska Gora (old growth/primeval forest); Igalo (if you want a spa town with very good value for money); and the Lipa cave complex.

HK04 · 25/01/2026 17:07

Casablanca. Absolute dive.

Dawnintheageofaquariams · 25/01/2026 17:08

Paris.
Was my ideal romantic weekend forever, my then BF booked it (I was 24).
Was awful.
Service terrible everywhere, the whole city smelled like a rotting corpse, queues for everything, all men and I mean ALL men constantly leering and making comments/physical approaches.
Burn it to the ground and bulldoze it into the sea.

Who put the c**t in Scunthorpe?

Lotus34 · 25/01/2026 17:10

As someone who isn’t an art/museum fan and equally dislikes lying on the beach - Malaga!!

Just didn’t do it for me sorry! I’ve been many places and Malta was disappointing. Felt grubby as well.

MangosteenSoda · 25/01/2026 17:10

Brunei. There are a couple of mildly interesting things to do during the day, but that country is deader than a dead thing at night. I spent 3 nights there and went to the cinema twice. One evening was spent at a theme park built in honour of the sultan’s 47th birthday. It was huge, but only the log flume was open.
