Just that. Interested to see if anyone says what I'm thinking...

Malaga, Torremolinos, Fuengirola, Lanzarote, Tenerife

Malaga's fab!
Torremolinos and Fuengirola are purely tourist towns and only a few miles apart - did you really expect them to be different?

The sheer depth and size of Loch Ness in particular boggles me. To think that there is more water in that loch alone, than in all the lakes in England and Wales, is just mind-blowing to me.

And a monster

And a monster

Who knows what's in there!

jollygoose · 25/01/2026 16:34

Nuuk in Greenland it's a really small underwhelming old fashioned town centre in the one and only large store we had to ask for the loo to be unlocked

MMAMPWGHAP · 25/01/2026 16:35

Love visiting most places. Particularly Berlin which has been mentioned a couple of times.

Worst place I’ve visited definitely Las Vegas. only 1 night in order to catch a plane home but just dire.

Wbeezer · 25/01/2026 16:35

We went to County Mayo on Honeymoon, were lent a friends family holiday cottage. It took ages to get there, weather awful, very quiet village and the scenery was like the west coast of Scotland ( we are Scottish) but not as nice. This was 30 years ago and I’m sure is better now but it was very old fashioned and there wasn’t much choice of things to do or places to eat. Might have had a better time if we hadn’t been on such a low budget.

KermitTheToad · 25/01/2026 16:40

Filey in Yorkshire.

Trieste! Tried and failed to find anywhere to eat a meal - not even a pizza. Walked for miles and miles right into the centre and nothing was open.

This is crazy, I was in Trieste last Easter and had amazing food and drink - local restaurants (very much under Austrian and Slovenian influences), bars with great local produce snacks (cheese charcuterie etc) and Friulian wine, branches of Napolitan pizza chains, amazing gelato.. where were you looking? I love Trieste; it is so different from other Italian cities, so much of its region and history.

Geneva

CoolShoeshine · 25/01/2026 16:40

About 90% of towns in the UK and Ireland are dull..same old New Look, Five Guys crap.
Orlando outside of the parks is surprising dull and depressing.
Agree with Oslo being dull but to be fair it isnt a tourist hot-spot.

Alpacajigsaw · 25/01/2026 16:42

Swindon

The Louvre. I might have enjoyed it more if I hadn’t queued for 2 hours in freezing cold rain to get in.

I went during “ the beast from the East” so queuing wasn’t too bad. Was thinking today I’ll probably never go back. It’s now €32 for non EU visitors.

Wisbech

We were considering moving there (it’s cheap). In the 2 hours we were there we had to stop a fight, stop a man beating up his partner.

These were SEPARATE incidents that meant we had to call the police twice (the fight needed an ambulance, the second ‘beating’ required DH and I to physically intervene)

On the way out of town a kid ran out in front of me requiring an emergency stop followed by the mum of the kid screaming at me that I was a cunt.

Maybe it’s better in the sunshine? 😂

That sounds about right. It’s cheap for a reason.

The odd thing about it vs many other similar towns is that it looks as though it ought to be nice. It has a river running through it, a port, nice parks and some very pretty Georgian architecture and a NT place and it still manages to be horrible!

Which are concrete bollards where wood used to be? 😅

Stranraer. I wasn’t actually visiting, I was trying to get home and my ferry was delayed. So I had several hours to spare wandering around, trying to find something to eat and something to do. I think it might have been a Sunday, just to make matters worse. I have never been so bored in my life. But, to be fair, I was very stressed, so I can’t imagine anywhere being particularly diverting. No offence to the inhabitants of Stranraer. The town was not there for my entertainment and it served me well on my numerous trips from NI to Scotland back in the 1990s/early 2000’s.

Stranraer....in Scotland.
One for Phoenix night fans.👍

peacefulpeach · 25/01/2026 16:45

Malta. Apart from some scuba diving.

Iceland…very underwhelming unfortunately

What?! Whale watching, volcanoes, glaciers, dramatic black sand beaches, incredible waterfalls - I thought it was amazing!

ShanghaiDiva · 25/01/2026 16:46

Oslo and Basel - dull and expensive
Bandar Seri Begawan - dull apart from the mosque
Most of Norfolk- dull and depressing
Non coastal parts of Cornwall - dull and depressing (with the exception of a some national trust properties)

Redcar?
....with Kirkleatham museum, Bellamy Pavillion exhibitions, Kirkleatham Walled Garden, Owl Centre, beautiful safe beach, leading to The South Gare scenic point with fascinating history, The Stray looking towards Saltburn, (voted one of the best views in Britain) Errington Woods with spectacular views, multi screen cinema with live NT/RO screenings, I could go on.... that Redcar??

Yes, that one.
I love Saltburn and there re some other great places in the area but Redcar town centre is really grotty but as I said not so dangerous as to be exciting - just grotty

GreenCaterpillarOnALeaf · 25/01/2026 16:46

Went to Berlin as a kid and got dragged round historical stuff… thought it was so fucking boring. Went as an adult and me and DH did two day history and two days of clubbing and it was amazing! I can’t believe I was so bored as a kid, guess I just didn't appreciate it.

The actual most boring place I’ve ever been is Preston, I was stuck in the station for two hours and it was extremely depressing.

Haverhill
peacehaven
Clacton

the stuff of nightmares

Years ago I caught a bus to Peacehaven with my 14 year old, to see the Meridian Monument and then walked back to Brighton. We still laugh about what a peculiar day out that was. Strangely memorable!

OttersMayHaveShifted · 25/01/2026 16:50

Workington in Cumbria. Low-level grim as well as boring. We were camping in the Lake District and on a (surprise surprise) rainy day we decided to go into the nearest town. It would have been more interesting to stay in the tent listening to the rain.

Bottomofthedeepbluesea · 25/01/2026 16:50

Pretty much every National Trust property I’ve been to.

Nooo! I love Warwick castle!

We went when we were in the area recently but with our 21 year old and 15 year old. Didn’t realise it was basically a theme park for 5 year olds 🤣 the castle itself was obviously pretty impressive and the surrounding grounds and bits of what we had access to were moderately interesting but it was overrun with toddlers and after an hour or so we were done, left after spending approx £100 to get in and just found it quite amusing all in all - we hadn’t done any research, it’s on us, we thought it was more castle than CBeebies land!
