What's for dinner?

Tonight the DCs are having chicken breasts with a mustard and honey cream sauce, with broccoli, rice and steamed carrots. Followed by tinned peaches and vanilla ice cream if I can persuade them to eat it.

I am having a halloumi and salad wrap as I am newly vegetarian.

I watched on netflix the almost-iconic series Jamies School Dinners which i had heard about but never seen. It simultaneously made me feel ALOT better about what my kids eat, but also made me feel that I need to branch out a bit and step outside my -and their- comfort zones. I know they like the chicken dish as it is one I make now and then. DS1 has food issues due to autism and this chicken dish is one of foods he will generally eat and enjoy (as long as there is just a hint of mustard). but I am stretching his tolerance a bit with the peaches and ice cream. So fingers crossed!!

Harissa cranberry chicken with bulgur wheat and roasted veg. We have HelloFresh Tuesday - Friday and it saves me thinking about what the five of us will eat on a work night.

Peridot1 · 20/01/2026 15:43

We are having baked ham, roast potatoes, cabbage and carrots I think.

Coffeeishot · 20/01/2026 15:44

Fish and chips from the freezer nothing exciting.

Do you do a sauce with the ham @Peridot1 ? I usually just do the obvious condiments, but fancy something a bit more gravy-esque.

That's what I'm having tomorrow!

Tonight I'm making a sausage and kale rigatoni dish

AtLeastThreeDrinks · 20/01/2026 15:46

Salmon, rice and veg. I’ll probably jazz up the salmon with some soy and ginger. The kids will be served a portion and inevitably request pasta or toast instead.

Mary BErry’s Chicken Dijon, roast potatoes, parsnips, broccoli and peas.

Overtheatlantic · 20/01/2026 15:51

Chicken soup, currently in the slow cooker, and garlic bread.

BearSoFair · 20/01/2026 15:51

Sticky sausage pasta (honey, soy sauce, dijon mustard, garlic and chilli flakes for the sauce) - first time trying it so hopefully it goes down well!

Pepsi4Eva · 20/01/2026 15:53

These all sound lovely. I am sure I made a sausage kale and rigatoni dish once... it has cream in it? (Or at least mine did).

Love Mary Berry. I think I might work through one of her books. I need to take the decision-making out of meals really. I spend way too much energy on it. I love a meal plan though!

Roast chicken breasts, boiled new potatoes, broccoli, carrots, peas and a small amount of gravy. I’m recovering from a bout of pancreatitis, have a gallbladder full of stones and am restricted to a very low fat diet for the foreseeable. Making roast potatoes for DS but will just have to drool over them from afar!

justtheotheronemrswembley · 20/01/2026 15:54

DH is making carbonara this evening.

zipadeeday · 20/01/2026 15:56

beef in black bean sauce with rice and stir fry veg

ASeatNextToMe · 20/01/2026 15:59

Tempeh and bean chilli with rice.

Hedgesgalore · 20/01/2026 15:59

Beef casserole, its been slowly cooking since 8am.

House to myself for the next two days so I've done the casserole the way I like it (extra lentils) and I'm set for food for both days 😁

whatwasthatnoise · 20/01/2026 16:06

Chicken and chorizo stew, sort of Spanish style. No recipe, probably a combination of a few different recipes. Thinking of serving it with cubed potatoes, roasted in the oven.

YellowStockings · 20/01/2026 16:19

Vegan bolognese with lentil pasta (with a blend of walnuts, salt, and nutritional yeast to sprinkle over it, and some toasted seeds for extra fibre / good fat / protein). Yum.

Peridot1 · 20/01/2026 16:20

@Pepsi4Eva - DH is cooking. He may do gravy. DS would prefer gravy. DH would prefer parsley sauce so that might happen too.

202617thjan · 20/01/2026 16:22

Black bean chilli with Avocado and yoghurt. So delicious and easy to make.

We are not vegan but last night we had meatballs with lentil pasta, which was delish. I didn't mention the pasta to DH who would absolutely refuse to eat it if he heard the word lentil!! Clean plates all round Smile

Tonight we're having breaded chicken breasts (homemade) with roasted veg and potato wedges (though I'm having mine with mash)

dontforgetme · 20/01/2026 16:26

@BearSoFair That sounds delicious!

dontforgetme · 20/01/2026 16:26

Slow cooked gammon, mash, stuffing, veg, yorkies and gravy for us.

LindorDoubleChoc · 20/01/2026 16:26

Spanish chickpea, chorizo and spinach stew with rice. I always have parmesan on mine in a weird Spanish/Italian fusion style, but I really can't contemplate a tomato and garlic based recipe without cheese!

GKG1 · 20/01/2026 16:26

Wow these all sound so hearty! We are heading out to clubs shortly so kids have just eaten a quick tea of egg mayo on toast, carrot sticks and pineapple chunks. When they get back they’ll probably have a bowl of cereal. Last night dd went to her second cookery class and made mango and green bean dahl, there was enough for 3 of us and I was delighted that dd liked it, she’d never eat that if I made it! The wee one had McDonald’s while we waited for dd1 at said cookery class…

Mirabellas · 20/01/2026 16:27

Baked salmon with pesto, tomatoes, courgette and peppers, tomato and chilli cous cous, green beans, broccoli and sugar snap peas.
