A quiet and friendly corner of MN to share the very dull day to day happenings of our lives. No criticisms, political discussions or controversies here - unless it is along the lines of "scone" v "scahn" and jam or cream first. Then it's gloves off! 😁

How did this start? I have found v.2, but not the original:

Sorry about your mum @Mumtobabyhavoc

Just catching up on the thread. Weather is glorious here and I’ve been going for my morning walks. Started a diet too which I’m finding hard work. I have no idea how to get more protein in my diet without spending a fortune 🤦‍♀️
DS is going on an overnight school trip, he’s very excited and has packed up his tent and is collecting all the paraphernalia he needs.

I’m rereading some old books which is just such a joy ☺️

Mumtobabyhavoc · 27/04/2026 18:41

Ella- I was an athlete. I suggest: 1c full fat milk, 1/2 c full fat Greek yoghurt, 1/2 to 1 scoop good quality protein powder, 1 tsp good quality cocoa for flavour and antioxidants, 1/2 to 1 frozen banana. Drink in the evening as your last meal , or within 2 hours after a workout.

DC are watching Paw Patrol en Francais for the first time. Laundry just finished and needs to go into the dryer. It's cloudy and a bit windy so far. Baby has just snuggled up beside me and said, Love you. Love you forever. 🥹🩷

Thank you 🙏 that sounds really tasty! Might be good for breakfast as I tend to walk in the mornings when it’s cooler

ETA that is adorable! 🥰

sproutsandparsnips · 27/04/2026 21:51

@Mumtobabyhavochope your mother is ok. What sport did you do?
@EllaDisenchantedi love a morning walk too - since I can’t run anymore
@bizzey love your lift pictures! Nice to hear from you.
productive all round @MrsSPengiuns!
Nothing better than grass under your feet @Blorengia
@MissConductUSthe rain has done a lot of good in your garden.
Rome was fantastic - feet are aching now but saw a lot of sights. All museums free on Saturday as Liberation day - the popular ones too busy but went to fresco museum and Diocletian baths.

Umanresources · 27/04/2026 23:26

@Mumtobabyhavoc hope your mum is OK. That was so sweet of Baby. It’s lovely when things like that come out of the blue. I used to watch Paw Patrol in Portuguese with my grandsons.

@EllaDisenchanted which old books are you re-reading?

@sproutsandparsnips I’m so envious of your visit to Rome. That’s one place I’d love to have seen. I watched a programme about Harry, a winner on the Traitors, who was young and Catholic and he wanted to go and speak to the Pope. He did do that, but I was so moved by the crowds in St Peter’s Square. It looked such a marvellous and spiritual place.

I’ve had a delivery today of another lot of dressings, which obviously makes me think I’m not going to be discharged by the district nurses any time soon!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 28/04/2026 02:46

Sprouts, the athletic community is small, so I'll let you imagine one you like. I'm not an Olympian, although I was that serious.

DD is in the throes of making another sourdough loaf. We are on our second bag or bread flour at this point, and we have run out of parchment paper. She will pick some up on her way home from work tomorrow, and bake the loaf as soon as she gets back and warms the oven and the big cast iron pot. The unsuspecting dough is in the fridge.

It poured rain all morning and into the early afternoon, and a thunderstorm just rolled through. I think it will be time this weekend to wash my heavy winter coat and put it away for a few months.

One of my colleagues missed work today because of strep, so I'm going to gargle tonight.

mathanxiety · 28/04/2026 03:21

Sorry to hear your mum is hospitalised, havoc. I hope she'll be ok soon.

Oh not that old, I mean I’ve read them before 😄 urban fantasy novels by Ilona Andrews.

Both my fryer and my freezer have gone on the blink. The freezer is an old one we got in a seconds store and is temperamental at the best of times, so it’s not unexpected, but the dryer is a pain! It’s only about three years old. I could hang out all the laundry on o ur maiden as it’s warm and windy but I don’t have pegs and I’m worried all our socks and underwear will blow over the balcony … mortifying 😂
I hang out a lot of clothes but not that!

EllaDisenchanted · 28/04/2026 11:55

The freezer has been shut and reset and now we just hope that it decides it wants to work again: luckily the kids like flat refrozen ice pops 😂

🤣
I’ve started watching a French police series called The Invisibles. A department has to find out who the body is, the commander doesn’t like them being referred to as John/Jane Doe, so they are named for the place they were found. I’m really enjoying it, even though I have to give it my full attention as I need to read the subtitles.

I’ve also re-purposed my royal marmalade jar into my water pot for my paintings. Very fancy and I think I should order some more marmalade now. Actually I think the King would appreciate the re-use for water as he is a very good artist himself. I bought some cards with his paintings on and I can’t remember where I put them. I must have a hunt for them later.

Chicken curry and rice for dinner tonight. Lovely.

Blorengia · 28/04/2026 16:54

Been outside, trying to persuade clematis to grow sideways rather than straight up.
The struggle is real.
14°C, feels like 9°C with this wind.

Just dropping in to say hi, not caught up on full thread. Nice to hear so many are making the most of the lovely weather. I am about to get up and water my strawberries, honest guv.

sproutsandparsnips · 28/04/2026 22:39

@Umanresourcesthat sounds like something I would enjoy. Where could I find it? Rome was indeed amazing - so much history around every corner, and good food and drink too!
@Mumtobabyhavoci think I will imagine you as a hammer thrower - I am in great admiration of them 😂
@EllaDisenchantedI hope your freezer is ok - it’s surprising how stressful domestic appliance malfunctions can be - I guess we rely on them a lot.

Umanresources · 28/04/2026 22:48

@sproutsandparsnips I wasn’t sure which one you wanted, so here they both are.

Harry Clark goes to Rome was a BBC programme, I presume it’s now on I player.

The French one is channel 4 Walter Presents.

Both excellent programmes.

@Blorengia you have a talent for photography. 😍 Was your composition intentional? (Pic of clematis?)
Sprouts, what can I say? You got me! 😂

Pesto pizza with asparagus, yellow bell pepper, arugula and mixed cheese for dinner.
I'm happy to see Baby digging in without being prompted. Havoc is taking a bit longer.

Got tv news on. Will go see my mum after dinner.

Nope, nothing intentional, just a snap to try and show what i meant by my upwardly mobile clematis. It's been growing tn that chimney pot for about 6 years, I suspect its roots have gone right down to the bottom and are into the soil underneath by now.

I just had a steam train go past me. I was very excited! No one else seemed to be. It was a freight train.

MrsSPenguinz · 29/04/2026 16:56

Hope your Mum is improving @Mumtobabyhavoc and will be home soon. So sweet of baby.

Glad you had a great trip @sproutsandparsnips

Hope your DS enjoyed his school trip @EllaDisenchanted

I love steam trains and think you were right to be excited @Poddingtonpeace

Lots of talking to shed companies here and researching sheds to see if we can find one suitable for DS. It will need planning and listed buildings permission so won't be this year. One firm has suggested a green roof with wildflowers or sedum which had never heard of before. They also have thatched shed roofs which I would love.

DandyDandylion · 29/04/2026 18:52

I love it when I see greenery on top of buildings, my local bus station has this. It is great for carbon capture and also holding water in heavy rain. We will need to think about these things more as climate changes bites.
Wednesday is my housework and household admin day, I reckon I need to add another day somewhere as despite working hard there’s tonnes left to do.
Still the sun is shining and we all ate our omelettes, salad and new potatoes in the garden tonight.
