A quiet and friendly corner of MN to share the very dull day to day happenings of our lives. No criticisms, political discussions or controversies here - unless it is along the lines of "scone" v "scahn" and jam or cream first. Then it's gloves off! 😁

How did this start? I have found v.2, but not the original:

Of course you can @Mumtobabyhavoc Would love to have you here.

Blorengia · 22/04/2026 14:30

Found two geocaches while walking in local woods this morning. Bluebells everywhere were beautiful.

Ooh, that’s a gorgeous photo of the trees @Blorengia I’d love to be able to paint something like that, but I’m not that good. I would be terrified of the mouse though. My bird feeder camera caught two mice feeding there in the middle of the night, so I can’t put any more food out.
The nurse came yesterday and put dressings on both legs. This time I’ve been told that someone will be coming once a week, not two. I’m still not sure what I’m up to!
Last night OH and I were on our own so I decided that we should have sushi, so I ordered for delivery. It was so good, but I ordered way too much. We’ve had the leftovers for lunch and they were still so good.
It’s a gorgeous day here again today, but I still can’t get outside, because none of my shoes will go over the bandages!
I love William Morris designs @MrsSPenguins . He said we shouldn’t own anything that wasn’t either beautiful or useful (I might be paraphrasing here). I must have hundreds of very useful things here!
@Mumtobabyhavoc Hope you are managing to get some sleep. I managed a few hours last night/early morning.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 22/04/2026 17:13

On my way Penguins. What should I bring? 😊
@Blorengia love that pic. 😍 What a great way to ease into the day.
Uman, I haven't had proper sushi for a while, but I do get Cali rolls for the dc here and there.

It's grey and cool here at 11c. It rained a bit overnight, I think. I have a bit of work to do for the activity of Havoc's that all the parents help out in and a med appt early this afternoon. I think I'll get the dc out for a nature walk shortly. Thanks for the inspo Blorengia. 😊

Bluebells are my favourites. I am secretly hoping my garden gets overrun with them.

sproutsandparsnips · 22/04/2026 22:47

@BlorengiaI'm not sure about the rodent. We had a whole family of what I was hoping was mice during Covid but I think were realistically rats. They were bold as brass…..
@MrsSPenguins- we had 6 peppers due to a shopping oversight. DH has made ratatouille.
I am going to Rome this weekend with friends I went to school with. Looking forward to it.

MrsSPengiuns · 22/04/2026 23:24

Have a wonderful time in Rome @sproutsandparsnips I love Rome.

Looking forward to seeing you soon. At the moment I would suggest maybe bringing your own jet fuel.

I love all things William Morris too @Umanresources especially the strawberry thief in red. I love the new cups, they are from Dunelm but say made by Spode though it's Portmerion now.

Had our lovely new cleaner in for an hour and a half today and nice to have house hoovered.

I got the refund for the faulty tap today which is good as it was £300 and even better DH bought the new tap. We have a new tap and I have sanded down were the leak was on the worktop and re varnished it twice and looks ok again. So we have plumber in tomorrow to put that back in and will have our upstairs sink back. The black bins have been emptied, and they took everything, I think it was over the supposed 30kgs limit. I turned over our mattress and mattress topper and it's much better. Was wondering if needed a new mattress but no will be fine for a while now.

The cat has a new trick. When DH is in the kitchen the cat puts his big front paws in DHs belt then swings himself around, all 8kgs of him. Watched Below Deck, there's too much drama for me this series but enjoy it. Also watched Reagan film. Lawn is looking good and DS is being careful just walking around paths. He took a 3am bath.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 22/04/2026 23:37

Hello @MargaretThursday 👋 It's been a while, I think?
Sprouts, I'm a bit jealous you can pop over to Rome like that. Have a wonderful time!
Penguins, you definitely deserve cleaning help with all the work you've been doing.
The price of gas (petrol) here is $2 p/litre, that's close to $8 p/gallon, or around £4.33, I think. A bit eye watering.

Waves across the miles to Angiepangy and Blorengia.

DD made another loaf today. The kitchen has a faint smell of buttermilk and the starter (now occupying two jars) is bubbling nicely.

Our weather is so unpredictable that I still haven't washed and put away my winter puffy coat. In fact, there are five coats and jackets of varying degrees of warmth piled on a chair in the kitchen, because getting the coat or jacket situation right (after checking my weather app) is important, and I don't want to have to raid the coat closet every morning.

MargaretThursday · 23/04/2026 06:41

@Mumtobabyhavoc <waves back> I lerk more than I post.

MrsSPengiuns · 23/04/2026 13:47

Thanks @Mumtobabyhavoc Yes petrol is expensive here as well but thankfully we don't need much as DH can walk to work and is largely home based.

The bathroom sink is now fixed, I sanded and varnished vanity and plumber has been to put new tap in and its all working. Got refund for old tap. Mattress is so much better turned over.

Charging cable on laptop has gone again. Lawn looking good.

ImDoneOnceAndForAll2 · 23/04/2026 17:55

Currently on a break from covering the stairs and landing with covering ready for a painter tomorrow. A long boring job

Hello all 👋👋..
Catching up late again !

I had a wonderful time at the theater last weekend.
The first performance was in the same theater as the afternoon performance.

I was a bit concerned about my seat as on my ticket it said there were steep steps .
It didn't say anything about it when I booked ... or if I did ..Missed it !

Anyhow , they told me to come back to the booking office before the show.

I went off and had a little mini picnic in the park .
Weather was lovely when I got there ..
A few hours later and a chilly wind picked up, so I have up on the picnic !

I went into an free art gallery to warm up 🤣.

Got back to the theater, went to box office to ask about changing my ticket ....
And ..by fluke ...a man was behind me , interrupted and said he was relinquishing his ticket ...did I want it !!

Stalls ,,row N ,,,on the aisle 😯🥳🥳.
One of the best seats in the house 🤣.

I sent a photo to the boys and said ..any closer and I will be up there dancing with them 😁.

My poor toe was screaming in agony at the end ..but I am glad I did it .

ImDoneOnceAndForAll2 · 24/04/2026 09:08

Hope those in America are ok. Due to the tornados and wild fires

Blorengia · 25/04/2026 20:19

Just been walking on our newly cut grass - I won't call it lawn, we're not that posh. It's so cool and soft after such a warm day.

Come and tell us your dull and unexciting news 35: Calmly through the day
mathanxiety · 25/04/2026 20:43

Thank you, ImDone. I am a good distance from recent storms. We are just having wild fluctuations of temperature here, and winds changing direction every few days. It's a great year for lilacs around these parts.

I spent the morning attending a wedding at City Hall, which was quite an experience. I had never been inside the building before, and it was evident that no corners were cut in the classical revival style of decor back in Aught Six or so when it was built.

The doors opened at 9 and thousands of people entered (many brides blue with cold and with teeth chattering as it was definitely 'brisk' outside), checked in, and snaked their way very slowly around corridors, down one floor in a lift, on to more corridors, and finally to the various judges' chambers where a very charming marriage court judge performed the ceremony for the happy couple about an hour and a half after we entered the building. We all had a lovely brunch afterwards. The groom is the son of a good friend.

Had a nice cup of tea when I got home, and remembered to give DD back her reloadable train pass. It's much handier and exponentially cheaper to take the train than to drive.

MyrtleLion · 26/04/2026 10:48

I spent most of yesterday completing ten, yes ten, autism questionnaires for my referral. Exhausting. But it's good to see the patterns of redundancies and friendships falling away.

bizzey · 27/04/2026 06:55

Beautiful morning here in the UK.
I have been checking the weather for today and left home accordingly!

The weather I was looking at was not the weather I faced walking to the bus stop !?

In fact I didn't even make it to the end of the path ...and I turned back to adjust clothes !

On way to hospital for early appointment.

Hopefully the cafe will still have lots of chocolate croissants left !!

bizzey · 27/04/2026 09:04

People watching in the corridor, while waiting for blood to be taken.

Something that always amazes me when I sit in waiting rooms /areas ...

I never see people in the same clothes or with the same bags !

I thought I did see a lady with the same bag as I lady I saw earlier...but then I realized..it was the same lady just walking back on her self !
🤣🤣.

bizzey · 27/04/2026 09:29

Now in a different area waiting for my prescription.
Not as much people traffic as people are just sitting waiting rather than walking.

( I presume you can tell I am really bored while I have to wait in hopsital ! 🤣🤣)

Interesting view of the back of the lift shat though.
Will take a photo. but it will be a while before it comes through as I will have to be approved !

bizzey · 27/04/2026 09:32

Back of the lift shaft.

Interesting pics @bizzey I notice things like that, too. A bit of fascination with the mundane. I studied photography, so I think that's part of it and also probably why I pursued it as well. I hope your appointment went well. How is your toe? Did you get a diagnosis for it? Did you get your chocolate croissant? 😋
Myrtle, that does sound exhausting - and like something I'd put off or avoid! 😵‍💫 What prompted you to test? And how's your ankle?
Math, that wedding and brunch sound perfect. 😍 I just came across a thread the other day bemoaning the glory given to sourdough bread. It's my favourite and I'm hooked on a seeded whole wheat sourdough from Costco - even my kids love it. I'm so loving that your dd is making it! 😊
Glad to know you haven't had any major storms yet. 🤞
@Blorengia that's a lovely pic. I know exactly the feeling. Spring is here, too. We've got lovely warm days atm, about 18c, but cool air. It's perfect, really.

It's going on for 2:30am. I've been awake since midnight. Got up, had a bath uninterrupted by dc (iykyk), then decided to put laundry away, wash another load (now hung up), clean the bathroom, wash the floors and turn the dishwasher on. Oh, and wipe some window sills. I did fall asleep with the dc at 7pm, though and I think I'm a bit out of sorts as my mum has been in hosp since Friday. Now I've had a bit of pineapple and I think I'll go back to bed.

Math, that wedding sounds lovely.

Bizzey, is that elevator in an interior courtyard in the hospital? I've never seen one laid out like that. I hope you got what you wanted in the cafe.

Havoc, I'm currently making a loaf of whole wheat bread. I love sourdough too. I'll have to put that on my list of breads to make.

@Blorengia, your grass is coming in nicely.

We had 1.3 inches of rain on Saturday, which was a bit dreary but sorely needed for the lawn and garden.

DH has been approached by another non-profit to provide volunteer IT consulting. If he's in this much demand, I think he should be charging for it.

DD and DSiL are moving to Georgia in 12 days, so they have a lot of packing to do.

Our lawn is also coming in nicely this spring, and I see signs of life in the front garden. My cactus is starting to perk up a bit from its winter slumber. I'm going to start zinnias from seed for planters on the deck this week.

So sorry about your Mum @Mumtobabyhavoc Hope she is back home with you soon and out of hospital. Hope you have managed a rest.

Lawn is looking good @MissConductUS always good to have garden come back to life.

Nice to go to a wedding @mathanxiety

Hope painting went well @ImDoneOnceAndForAll2

There are so many forms for autism @MyrtleLion its crazy and so much filling in the same forms 20 times each year when its your child.

Just a quiet weekend here - put up shelf now we have a new tap its lower so we can add the bathroom shelf and the toilet roll holder finally went up. DS took a middle of the night bath.

We also did 3 hours gardening - well not especially gardening but in the garden changing the chicken's flooring, cleaning their water fountain, clearing out old things by the side of our shed and putting some of the excess turf in green sacks. Had a roast dinner and DH made tarte tatin which we had with double cream, lovely but not great for calories. Got a Sainsburys order.

We are thinking of a new shed for DS as he loves the shed but its old now. We will need planning permission and listed buildings consent and I am in talks with two companies and learning about sheds. We need a good quality one as DS is a bit like an elephant at times though the one shed company completely get it and the other is like no you can't do that.

bizzey · 27/04/2026 16:22

My breakfast was yummy ! 😋
It was a chocolate twist and a small cappuccino....with lots of sugar !! @Mumtobabyhavoc and @MissConductUS !

MissC ...the whole hospital is laid out like an indoor courtyard I suppose.
It has 4 lift banks /shafts ..A,B,C ,D .
Set in a row with x amount distance between them .

Then there are 4 or 5 floors ..can't remember..only go to floor 1 !
Each floor and lift bank area has different departments and wards off it sideways .

Hard to explain...but it is a very lovely, clean and modern hospital and the layout is so easy to navigate .

The journey is much nicer as well.

Coming home the traffic was awful , so I got off the bus and jumped on the tube/ underground.
Bit more expensive, but better than not moving on a hot bus in london traffic !
