A quiet and friendly corner of MN to share the very dull day to day happenings of our lives. No criticisms, political discussions or controversies here - unless it is along the lines of "scone" v "scahn" and jam or cream first. Then it's gloves off! 😁

How did this start? I have found v.2, but not the original:

I was very happy to have my nurse visiting just once a week and had my dressing only on one leg. Yesterday was told all was fine, so discharged from nurses. Had to call them back today. Now back to twice a week visits and dressings from toes to knees on both legs. Thank goodness I managed to have a shower this morning without the faff of putting on the plastic boots first. I’ve also been told to raise my legs for at least half an hour several times a day. Obviously it means on the recliner chair, not just Willy nilly raising! The trouble is I tend to doze off when reclining, so I can’t watch foreign series because when I close my eyes I can’t read the subtitles.

sproutsandparsnips · 18/04/2026 21:14

Ah sorry about the setback @Umanresources
Silkies look lovely @MrsSPenguins. DS has been back a week but not many lectures so has come back home for weekend to revise for exams.
@MumtobabyhavocI don’t know what it is about geese but I love to see and hear them flying in a skein. It gives me a good feeling inside.
@mathanxietyhow amazing it is that you have hummingbirds!
Finished cooking for 100 players today. DS played for the youth team. They lost their cup semifinal but seemed ok about it. First team had an important win. Need two points from the last game next week to stay up. My feet are sore now!

Umanresources · 18/04/2026 21:54

I feel the same way about geese @sproutsandparsnips and @Mumtobabyhavoc . Perhaps it’s a reminder of the Fairy tale the wild swans (which could be geese) by Hans Christian Andersen. I used to read the different coloured Fairy Tale books by Andrew Lang. I’ve now just bought The Red Fairy Book on EBay.
Those silkies are absolutely gorgeous @MrsSPenguins They should be called fluffies.
My legs are raised!

Umanresources · 18/04/2026 22:42

@sproutsandparsnips Please tell me what you cooked for 100 players. I’m dying to know.

sproutsandparsnips · 18/04/2026 23:44

@Umanresourceschilli (beef and vegetarian) and tortilla chips with cheese and sour cream

I love chilli! I’ve only ever made it for 10 at the most. I am now picturing a vat of chilli 😱. You are a marvel ❤️

DandyDandylion · 19/04/2026 09:58

Yes my massive home made bolognaise the other day would only have fed about 16. Do you use a professional kitchen with huge pots?
I am sat chilling, looking at the Welsh mountains and listening to all the birds. I heard my first Lapwing of the year today. I was beginning to wonder where they were.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 19/04/2026 15:22

It's too early to be awake yet on Sunday morning...🥱
Havoc was asleep by 9:30pm and Baby 10:30pm last night. They are pretending it's Christmas and are building Christmas trees with magna tiles. 😍

I'm scrolling. Have got a bit of a sore throat, but I think it's due to PND from allergies. Nose has been a faucet past few days. 🙄

Hope everyone is better soon with their toes, feet and ankles. So debilitating. 😔

sproutsandparsnips · 19/04/2026 16:14

@DandyDandylionyes we have very large pots. I use two of them.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 19/04/2026 17:00

#2.

Laundry on. Clothes folded/put away.

That's a whopping amount of chili, sprouts.

I am constantly amazed by the hummingbirds. No sign of any yet, but they'll be here soon.

uman hope you're doing OK.

penguins what a lovely little flock they are.

DD finally made sourdough yesterday, as the starter looked and smelled perfect. She spent hours in the afternoon and evening following directions to the letter, tussling with the dough and letting it rise, then baked the loaf today after resting it in the fridge overnight. It was perfect, and we demolished half of it. We will definitely make more.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 21/04/2026 07:44

Math! Thank you for the sourdough update! How wonderful! 😋🍞

MissConductUS · 21/04/2026 16:03

Sprouts, that is an epic amount of chili, not to mention the tortillas and sour cream. The lads probably eat like they haven't been fed in years as well.

havoc, I hope your sore throat is better. My allergies are back as well. I started using a new over-the-counter antihistamine nasal spray called Astepro last year, and it has helped a lot. I don't know if it's available in Canada or not. I can order it on Amazon, and sometimes the warehouse club has it as well.

Math, well done to your DD on the sourdough. I haven't made bread since Easter, so I'm overdue. Are you having crazy temperature swings in Chicago? It's been below freezing for the last two nights here, after 90 degree temps last week. I'm also waiting for the hummingbirds.

We've had great news from DD and DSiL. He successfully defended his master's thesis last week, which completes the requirements for his degree in computer science. And they closed on their house in Georgia yesterday. They didn't travel to Georgia; their lawyer handled everything for them. I'm so excited for them to be homeowners.

DH and I went to Town Hall last week and got ID cards to use the town swimming pool this summer. We got the senior citizen rate, which was $85 each for the whole summer. He's also started volunteering with the Walkway over the Hudson people on their IT project.

We've had enough warm weather so that the trees are flowering and leaves are sprouting, so it no longer looks like winter off the deck.

Miss, I've been taking an anti-histamine the past couple of days and it's a bit better. I did a sinus rinse this morning, too.
Good news for your dd and her dh. Geez, weren't you just shopping for her wedding dress? Time flies, doesn't it? 🩷

The kids are playing and I've just finished a latte - a hot one to mix it up here. 😂
Baby was on the floor down the hall making snow angels and now both are yelling "Cannonball" and throwing balls down the hall. I'm keeping an eye on this one. 🤦‍♀️

[Note plural "ears" - no reference to Orton and Halliwell intended]

I came into our lounge to find our fairly aged cat, inside by the open french windows, holding a small (ish) furry rodent under one paw. He (the cat Lupin) looked up at me as though to say, "What do I do now?"
It was either a rather large mouse, or a young rat - I suspect the latter.
Lupin, bemused, lifts his paw and rodent dashes for cover into the dark corner behind the TV.
Rats!
Then followed some confusion and cursing as I had to manoeuvre the TV and stand away from the wall so that I could finish the job Lupin started but failed to complete.

sueelleker · 21/04/2026 18:11

Perhaps he was saying "I caught it, you kill it".

Mumtobabyhavoc · 21/04/2026 18:12

@Blorengia just what you were hoping for to liven up your day. 😂
Thank you for popping by and dropping such lovely prose! You have a talent for writing! 🩷

DC have quieted and are playing with pinwheels on the deck. I've just had to use my low and stern mum voice, Nooo as Havoc started to lock Baby outside. 😂

Some people demand a "cat tax" photo when posting stuff...
Here's a rat tax.

I am an American living in Virginia. I just returned home from voting. The issue on the ballot is, should Virginia temporarily redraw the redistricting lines in order to pick of more House of Representative seats? Hopefully, these seats will be occupied by Democrats. This is an effort to counteract Trump's call to Republican leaning states to do the same in his hopes of retaining control of the House of Representatives. I'm in favor of limiting his power until he is out of office. Please know not all Americans support his lunacy.

MissConductUS · 21/04/2026 19:53

@Blorengia, I think that's a mouse. We get a lot of them as we live in the woods, and they come inside when it's cold. Our cats also like to corner them and turn them over to us for disposal.

Havoc, the Astepro works because, as a nasal spray, it applies the antihistamine topically in your sinuses, right where the inflammation is happening. I take two oral antihistamines, and the Astepro gives more dramatic and immediate relief.

Welcome, @ANGIEPANGY77. It's always nice to have another American on the thread. I'm a New Yorker and @mathanxiety is from Chicago. As the thread is purposefully dull and boring, we try to avoid politics and other controversial subjects.

Miss is right, we do avoid controversy here, but we could count your detailed post as boring, if you don't mind, and give you a pass.
This time. 😈

I've got laundry on. Kids have had lunch and I need to get us out. I'm just so tired today.

Miss, I think my allergies have gotten worse and our very mild winter hasn't helped.

I'm in Vancouver, CAN btw. 🍁🇨🇦

Got 2 William Morris cups today and just having a cup of tea in one. Also got order from B&Q, some capri shorts from Joe Browns and an order from Waitrose including some chicken kiev which we had with corn on the cob and muscat grapes which I had after. Yesterday we had stuffed peppers as DD left for university on Sunday leaving us 6 peppers. She won't be back now until end of June.
