A quiet and friendly corner of MN to share the very dull day to day happenings of our lives. No criticisms, political discussions or controversies here - unless it is along the lines of "scone" v "scahn" and jam or cream first. Then it's gloves off! 😁

How did this start? I have found v.2, but not the original:

He would have been 4/5 ..I reckon he was just glad to get fed as he was always hungry !

MyrtleLion · 15/04/2026 20:28

My understanding of the Ms/Dr and Mr/Dr is that surgeons revert to Ms/Mr when they stop being medical students and qualify as surgeons.

Your doctor may well be a consultant but is a physician/medic and doesn't cut.

The consultant who managed my infection was a Dr not a Ms. She was in Infectious Diseases and left the surgery to my consultant orthopaedic surgeon while she managed the antibiotic regime.

bizzey · 16/04/2026 00:40

Thank you @MyrtleLion ...I forgot that being a surgeon does change things .

Well the pasta salad that I made did nottl last !

DS had a portion before he went , out had a portion and not he has come in and the bowl has disappeared to his bedroom !!
To munch on while games or socialedia or wherever !

Poor mam !! 🤣.

She didn't get a looking. 🤣..I was going to bring her up some tomorrow !

I did warn her that she might not have much !!

And to be fair to DS ..I didn't actually say it needed to be rationed !!

I am just glad he likes it !

Plan was to have some tomorrow with the tuna fish cakes I am going to make. !

Looks like it is just tuna fish cakes and cucumber only !

Ohh and a bit of spinach for garnish !!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 16/04/2026 05:45

Bizzey, people that cook for a living generally appreciate being cooked for and your ds gets the bonus of his mother's love with your cooking. 🩷

I really hope your foot heals soon. 🩷

So, busy day. Did some admin work, but didn't finish (might get out of bed and work a bit more); loaded everyone up to take my mum to specialist appt; stopped on the way to get her hair cut; saw friend in parking lot so chatted with her a bit; went to city hall to pay a bill (inexpensive, but annoying); went to doctor appt, waited 30 minutes as he was behind, but is lovely and thorough and answers all q's; drove home; made a late lunch; took kids out to play, kicking around soccer ball then playground; then home to dig around in the garden, the lavender has buds, the mint is OUT OF CONTROL, the herbs will be dug up, the garden gnome disintegrated; and then got kids bathed and into pj's and fed.
And that was my day. 😅

I walked a footpath recently that goes through one of my neighbours gardens. They had a lovely posh bird feeder full to the brim with a rat helping himself. Knowing them, they would be horrified if they knew what was being attracted to their patio.

MyrtleLion · 16/04/2026 12:08

I had orthotics fitted on Tuesday. New shoes for indoors arrived this morning.

I come from an environment where shoes on inside is frowned on so it's been emotionally difficult to accept I need to wear them inside. And then I had to find shoes that support my ankles. They are for exclusive indoor use only.

And they look great and are very comfortable. Two zips either side of the laces.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 16/04/2026 16:58

Those shoes look very comfy Myrtle. 😀
I'm also a no shoes indoors and the kids running around with shoes on while we're getting ready to go out pushes my buttons. 😫
Gotta get moving and get Baby to activity.
🏃‍♀️💨

Ohh I love those boots @MyrtleLion !

They would be my go to sort of style for winter boots , but yes I can see why they just don't fit as indoor shoes , even if they haven't been worn out side.

Will they give you lighter ones now as we approach warmer ( 🙏🙏🤞🤞) weather ?

MrsSPenguins · 16/04/2026 18:58

Glad the boots are comfortable @MyrtleLion

Thanks @Mumtobabyhavoc You achieved a lot in your day.

Thanks @sproutsandparsnips Lovely your DS cooking

Thanks @Umanresources Lovely to have tulips

DH took half out of green bins and put in sacks (yuk but he had a shower after) and the bins went and will put rest back in bins. As we have to stay off lawn now whilst it grows roots it'll be fine to use the bins in 2 weeks.

Having salmon Caesar salad. DD goes back to Oxford on Sunday. Looking forward to Race Across the World.

MissConductUS · 16/04/2026 19:39

@ACatAsleepInYourHatOur two cats (both seniors) are very lazy mousers. Because we live in the woods, we do get mice in the house from time to time. They will stalk them a bit, but that's usually it. If I see one of them staring at the stove or a cabinet, I know that they've heard one hiding somewhere.

Lovely comfy looking boots, @MyrtleLion. We usually wear cushy sliders in the house and put on trainers when we go out.

We've had record-breaking heat here this week, starting on Tuesday. DH turned on the central air conditioning and it ran for two minutes or so and then shut off. Fortunately, our HVAC company came yesterday to look at it. It had leaked most of its refrigerant over the winter. The bloke was able to locate and replace the leaking part and fill the system with new refrigerant, which was very expensive. It's working fine now, which is good, as it's currently 33 C outside.

I'm still doing cardiac rehab three times a week and walking two miles or so most days. I was out the other morning and saw this tiger moth on the roadway. Lucky for him it was not a busy road.

sproutsandparsnips · 16/04/2026 22:34

Oh gosh @MissConductUSit only seems yesterday that you were in minus temps!
@bizzeycards so cute! Consultants are Dr unless surgeons (orthopaedic, surgical, ENT, urology etc) when they are Mr, Mrs, Miss.
@Mumtobabyhavocwhat a very busy but so satisfying day.
DS2 has been to college interview - been offered a place for his A levels. If he can get excellent grades at GCSE he can join gifted, talented program who can get extra support for uni applications. He will need to work hard as it doesn’t come as naturally to him as to his brother, but he works very hard. DH made stir fry for tea. Was very tasty.

Have a plasterer in putting a new ceiling in the bathroom. Is it normal to feel anxiety with every bang and crack i can hear
His gonna be here hours and i cant wait for him to leave

sueelleker · 17/04/2026 12:07

Just phoned Vaillant to book my annual boiler service, and they're coming today! I had to wait in for a delivery anyway, so that fits in very nicely.

ImDoneOnceAndForAll2 · 17/04/2026 18:05

Well the plasterer came and it took nearly 3 hours to clean up after him.
Not fun at all

DandyDandylion · 17/04/2026 18:46

I have a pair of ridiculously large and fluffy socks that I wear indoors which were a gift. When I unwrapped them I was a bit puzzled but they are the best thing ever as comfy, warm and cushioned for walking about but also fine for snuggling up on the couch.
I have three cats, but two were hand reared so Mummy cat didn’t get the chance to teach them to hunt. The third makes up for them and is supplementing his diet with rabbits at the moment.
I have cooked a big batch of our usual Friday dinner, spaghetti bolognaise and DH is just doing the pasta.

bizzey · 17/04/2026 21:23

I am getting my self organized for something that I am unbelievably excited about !

Ballet has always been my passion.
I was a teacher and worked abroad teaching it.

Life has han happened , ill health and injury...and I couldn't continue.

So I am so excited to be prepping for my trip tomorrow.

I am going to see the Royal Ballet have a company class and then go on to watch that company perform a wonderful ballet that I have not seen .

I won't bore you with names ...but a very big , important man is behind it all !!

Then I have a little break ...2 hours or more ..to find somewhere to a have a cheeky glass of wine and some staters/nibbles .

.......because ...I am then going onto another performance that has caught my eye and the timing all works out .

It is a parody of all of Shakespeare 's works Quite a well known touring group...that had passed me by. 😜😅😁.

But what I forgot to say above and can't go back to ....
The company I am watching, are performing in London Sadlers Wells the following week .
Same company, same show , same everything ....but £80 more for a ticket ...which is up in the gods !

Soo a bit of a hit on the old bank account this week as all these things came about at the same time , with no planning !

I have an early start , which I am not good at .
But I have laid my clothes, jewelry, accessories and stuff on the spare bed ..ready to go !

All need now is bath /shower .. haven't decided !
But I need to wash my hair ..so thinking what would be easier !

Mumtobabyhavoc · 17/04/2026 21:57

Good for you, Bizzey. Your day of dance sounds awesome. Enjoy! 🩷

I had Irish Stew for lunch today and bliody loved it, proper comfort food. Must start to make my own.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 18/04/2026 08:07

I'm lying here trying to get to sleep, mindlessly scrolling, really, and I heard what sounded like geese, which I assume, were flying by here at midnight. 🤔
Had to Google. 🙄
If fact, Geese do fly at night due to calmer and cooler air as well as to avoid predators.
Who knew! 😲

I love Irish stew. 😋

Congratulations to your DS @sproutsandparsnips

Well done on exercising so much already @MissConductUS

Hope you can get some sleep @Mumtobabyhavoc

Hope the plastering looks good @ImDoneOnceAndForAll2

Had pancakes for dinner, savoury with mozzarella and asparagus from farm shop and then sweet with strawberries and white chocolate. We got a farm shop order of fruit and veg with lots of blood oranges, apples, asparagus, 2 lots of eggs and apple juice. DD says DS has the smell of the oranges now as he's eaten so many of them.

We are taking DD back to Oxford for university on Sunday so most of weekend will be that and also have ordered a new tap for upstairs bathroom.

MyrtleLion · 18/04/2026 13:01

I've been joining squares to make blankets for Little Hugs. I'll post pictures once they're done.

I have to buy my own so it's hard to know what to get. Lighter shoes would have to support my ankles and have space for orthotics, so must be closed toe. It's hard to see what else I could buy.

mathanxiety · 18/04/2026 19:04

ImDone even worse is a lot of banging followed by dead silence.

We had a hot and humid week with gusty thunderstorms most nights. Today's weather is more seasonably fresh.

It's still too changeable to put my deck plants out for the summer. I watered them all this morning and my sitting room and dining room smell like petrichor.

The hummingbird feeder is cleaned and filled though, as they will be here soon and probably gasping for sugar water.

MrsSPenguins · 18/04/2026 19:26

That's such a lovely thing to do @MyrtleLion

DD has her last day here before going back to university tomorrow. She was doing her punting job.

We had roast dinner and then DH and I went gardening for 2.5 hours. The magnolia and the apple tree are now in blossom and lots of bulbs are out. The silkies came with us at the end.
