A quiet and friendly corner of MN to share the very dull day to day happenings of our lives. No criticisms, political discussions or controversies here - unless it is along the lines of "scone" v "scahn" and jam or cream first. Then it's gloves off! 😁

How did this start? I have found v.2, but not the original:

Oh, Penguins, how awful. And you're working so hard on top of it. I hope you're sleeping well. 🧡

Thanks @Mumtobabyhavoc The leak effects aren't too bad now - ceiling is flat and dry now and just one crack to fill hopefully. The vanity worktop I think is OK, there's a mark but its not visible unless you look behind the bowl which you would not normally do. And been promised a refund on tap which was £300 - will probably get a cheaper one.

Done 3.5 hours gardening with DH, day 5 of digging, clearing and laying turf and all done apart from 8 square metres so final time will be tomorrow morning. We are both exhausted but it looks good. Just hope it all stays looking that way.

Had bacon and egg rolls this morning pre gardening and just having a Sunday roast. DD is back from rowing camp tomorrow. Hope everyone had a nice Sunday.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 12/04/2026 21:07

Light at the end of the tunnel, then Penguins 😅

My kids are eating oatmeal with butter, cinnamon, a splash of milk and strawberries, blueberries, banana and pecans. 🤗

I went for a walk early this morning as it was lovely and warm. The tennis courts all over town were already jammed, and the sound of tennis balls popping filled the air, along with birds chirping. Spring has definitely sprung.

It got very windy and threatening in the afternoon, and I spent a few hours getting my taxes and DD's in order after DD and I did a grocery and sundries run. The deadline to file taxes is the 15th.

When we got home with three bags of stuff from our list we realised we had forgotten bin bags. Doh!

DD made ziti with vodka sauce and spicy Italian sausage for dinner. There's enough to last us all week.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 13/04/2026 06:06

Math, Dinner sounds great! I love the imagery in your post. 🩷

Yes @Mumtobabyhavoc light is there. Lovely food as always.

Sounds like a lovely day and dinner @mathanxiety

Just done another 1.5 hours with DH (he had morning off) and got 6 square metres more down so only 2 square metres to do this evening. It was quite the workout and lost 2lbs doing it. Beautiful weather today and silkies always following me round and were bashing their fluff into me at times they were so close. I am currently their best friend as I have dug up lots of soil with a trowel.

As DH and I went to leave kitchen DH had the back door open and cat got in the garden whilst the silkies were out. The silkies looked like what on earth is that and the cat just sheepish. Managed to pick cat up and put him back straight away but good he wasn't interested in hunting silkies.

DD back from rowing camp 2 tonight. We have the very exciting task, well DH has kindly volunteered to sort green bins at think they will be overweight though no-one at the council knows what the bin lorry weight limit is. In theory you can't put turf or soil in there other than very small amounts. Some councils here seem to have a 30kgs weight limit, some 50kgs, our council said they don't know but maybe 30kgs. Though the nearest council says 50kgs and our bin has always been taken before. I estimate both bins are currently around 60kgs, we can wheel them fine but moving them up steps was difficult. I think bin men could move them as its only 2 metres on tarmac but bin lorry may reject atm. So DH will probably take about half out of each then when they are collected and empty put other half back. It is going to mean no green bin space for 2 weeks but we can work round that. We also have about 8 rolls of turf we don't need. I was going to buy 40 square metres but it then said a pallet takes 48 square metres get an extra 8 square metres for only £15 or so and I thought it was a great offer. But now we have 8 of those spare at 15kgs each. They aren't too much though, can just put them all in a pile in a corner.

Also have to sort kitchen and downstairs bathroom but on Wednesday we have a cleaner for 1.5 hours and turf will be finished and bins collected.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 13/04/2026 16:59

You'll have to post pics if not outing Penguins. You've really taken in a big job (with dh). It must feel so satisfying! 🤗💚

Was awake til well after midnight. 🥱
Baby was asleep by 7:30pm. ☑️
Havoc is in a phase of not wanting to go to bed until I go to bed. So, I've stopped fighting it. Havoc was awake until after 11pm.

@MissConductUS ‘It was a classic case of the Dunning Kruger effect.’ I’d never heard of this and found the article very interesting. I definitely worked with at least 3 people at different times with this! Your photo is gorgeous.
@mathanxiety Im so pleased spring is on the horizon. I’ve never heard of ziti, the dinner sounds delicious so I’ve ordered some Italian sausages and vodka. I’ve found a recipe that my OH will have to make 😃 I’m so susceptible to new ideas, I’m such an advertiser’s dream. I need to stay off instagram as well or else I’ll end up buying rubbish as well!
@MrsSPenguins I hadn’t realised that there was a weight limit on green bins. I know some Councils charge a yearly fee for emptying those and some people have to book appointment times for going to the recycling centre. Thankfully we can turn up whenever we like. Our council also will collect up to 5 large items, like fridges, for free, from outside our property, but you have to book those in. They have also been on the ball whenever I’ve reported potholes in the road nearby. It’s taken them a couple of weeks at the most. We do live on a slip road and there is a lot of school traffic twice a day.
@Mumtobabyhavoc it’s hard with 2 little ones, but when I look back now, it seems to have gone by so quickly. I remember one of my friends having to stay with her children until they fell asleep. Most of the time, she was asleep on the floor and the children would be up and playing 😂
I bought my first Jersey Royal potatoes this week. So expensive, but worth it. Salmon steaks, jersey royals and asparagus. My favourite meal. DD made roast chicken meal this weekend with the crispiest roasted garlic potatoes, which were so good.
I’ve bought a new laminator and I’ve been making more bookmarks too. I need to offload them somewhere as well

Mumtobabyhavoc · 14/04/2026 01:26

Dinner is almost ready here: pesto salmon and prawns, brown wild rice and corn on the cob.
Had kids to playground late morning, home for lunch of poached eggs, then Baby napped. Havoc and I played Jenga for a bit. Now doing 15 mins of French for Havoc's school prep this coming September. (I need the refresh, though).

I may have mentioned this here before but the quote that stayed with me from the days of having two little people;

”The days are long but the years go quick”

I spoke to a friend yesterday, who I only see every now and then and he was incredulous that Ds is learning to drive.

bizzey · 14/04/2026 09:41

Hi x
Popping on to say hello 👋 🤗

Life has been busy ..but i have also not been very well .

Minor things ..but it all escalated!

I think I told you all a while ago ?year ago ? Or more !!
That I had an issue with the skin on my toe .

Well ...it never really hot solved and cut a long story short ...I am sat in A&E .
I thought GP was going to ring me back on Thurs..bit by coincidence...she phoned me while I am here at the hospital .

She said I idid right thing , because if not they would have sent me any way .
So I don't feel such a drama queen now ! 😅🤣.

I think I have been here an hour.
I have been triaged and they are waiting for someone from dermatology to come and see me .

Luckily ..I have 2 episodes of Eastenders to still catch up on. 🤣🤣

MyrtleLion · 14/04/2026 10:20

Oh, bizzey, I hope they can sort it out for you.

We have an electrician round to fit some outdoor sockets and install an induction hob. He is currently cutting a bigger space in the counter because the gas hob (removed yesterday) was smaller, and drilling holes in the outside wall.

This is because DH is on a work call and can't have the WiFi turned off (when the power is shut down) until he's finished.

MrsSPenguins · 14/04/2026 14:08

Hope hospital sort that @bizzey

We have finally finished the lawn, 7 days in a row of hours of heavy gardening / carrying soil and we are both shattered but very happy and hope it lasts. DS is being careful. Silkies not so much but they are light.

I have now had a bath and a cup of tea and have collapsed in bed and will watch Below Deck. Tonight DH has volunteered to sort the green bins out as I think we maybe at double the weight limit for a bin though nobody at the council knows what the weight limit for the council lorry is. They have said some councils its 30kgs. Cleaned kitchen floor. DS had bath, he's having one a day. DD back home from rowing camp, week with us and back to uni.

Photo of some of the turf we laid.

Come and tell us your dull and unexciting news 35: Calmly through the day
Mumtobabyhavoc · 14/04/2026 15:43

Dandy, yes, I say that too and have shared it as well. God, it is so true! I feel your friend's incredulity, but here it's that Havoc will be going to school. 😿

Bizzey, what a saga! I can't believe your doctor let it go on a year without a specialist referral. Please ensure you get an answer.

Oh, how pretty Penguins! Looks* so nice! *Well deserved bath indeed!

Just waking up here. 🥱
I think it's raining.

OP posts:
Umanresources · 14/04/2026 17:46

Penguins your garden looks so pretty. I do like your meandering path through the garden. It looks so peaceful. I’ve got a vase of tulips in front of me at the moment, a surprise from my DD. I love them. DD and I will also be watching Below Deck tonight. I love seeing the meals they have and what the guests are like. Not too keen on the drunken nights out though. I asked my daughter what special night she would ask for. She said for all the staff to leave, so she could have a good time! Just a marvellous meal, serve it and then go. I’m all for that too.
That saying is so true Dandy. I remember at my 21st birthday party a friend of my mum said that the years would now go by so quickly and they do.
Havoc - for a change it isn’t raining here. DD has been cooking. We are having cottage pie with cauliflower and Brussel sprouts for dinner. It smells delicious already. She starts with a base of soffrito, which is what we can smell, along with the garlic!

bizzey · 14/04/2026 20:35

Thanks for the good wishes x

Got home at 6pm .made a cuppa , lay on my bed with my stash of drugs (prescription medicine!!) and promptly fell asleep 😅😅..

Basically , I was triaged , then wait , than saw doctor who took a photo and sent it to Dermatology consultant .
Consultant wanted to see me to went to that department.

The loveliest consultant ever, ever decided to do bloods as the tablet she wanted me to take is pretty hard on the old Liver .
(I was not hopeful 😅😅!)

She asked if I could wait around for the results then she would put the prescription in

Waited 1 hours and a half approx and had a little snooze on a comfortable seat.

(Rested my head on my rucksack , forgetting that I had a baguette in there that I bought when I arrived at the hospital as I knew it was going to be a long day...
Bit squashed , but still edible. 😅😅))

Anyhow , Consultant phoned me ...my Liver passed it's test !!

She said to request the prescription then come back up to her while it is being prepared.

I went up and she took some more scrapings ..
I forgot to say in the earlier appointment she took swabs.

She then got a nurse to give me a magnesium foot soak .
Foot in a bowl of water with stuff in it for 20 mins.

Creamed and bandaged in order to stop it all rubbing while coming home .

My toe was leaking 'something ad my socks were getting wet .at the top.
I had bought a spare ,but that got damp as well.

I have a sheepskin insole in my little ankle boots so I had to take that out to get my padded foot in and kept the zip down 🤣😅😅!

Home now and I think there is a bit of confusion on when I am going back .

She kept saying next Monday the 27th .

So I need to check which Monday she wants to see me at 8 AM 😯😯😯!

She is fitting me in before her ward rounds .

So ...there we have ..my day at the hospital 🤣🤣.

sproutsandparsnips · 14/04/2026 22:12

@bizzeythat sounds like good dermatology service! Hope the meds do the trick.
@Mumtobabyhavocporridge sounds lovely - bet the kids enjoyed!
@MrsSPenguinsthe garden looks lovely. Hope the bins pass muster - we have green bags - the bin men have to be able to pick them up.
@Umanresourcesi’m looking forward to British asparagus season.
DS made tea last night as DH was joining the WRU EGM online and I worked late. He made sausage and vegetable rice. It was very tasty and he took the leftovers for lunch today.

ACatAsleepInYourHat · 15/04/2026 13:01

I think I've previously mentioned that my senior cat (now 14 and a firm devotee of the daily 18-hour catnap) brings me a leaf every day. She's also been known to gift elastic bands dropped by the postman, pieces of moss and twigs. Apart from a small frog when she was much younger, she's never brought me any kind of animal, living or dead.

I'm happy with this arrangement, especially as junior cat is a dedicated hunter and will often leave me partially-eaten rodents in strategic places.

For some reason known only to herself, said senior cat decided to bring me a freshly-caught - still warm! - mouse in the early hours of the morning, and drop it proudly at the foot of the bed. Luckily, I was still awake and could dispose of it quickly. I'm hoping this is a one-off!

Umanresources · 15/04/2026 14:38

Oh my goodness @ACatAsleepInYourHat I would have had to move house. I have such a fear of mice, in fact I am no longer using the camera on my bird feeder, as it videoed a mouse eating the food! My OH moved the feeder away from anything enabling a mouse to climb, but I’m still not over the alert I got and the shock of not seeing my lovely Robin!
Italian Sausages arrived today @mathanxiety , so I’m looking forward to trying a new dish, when DD and her faddy eating is not here for a meal. Possibly chicken curry tonight.
I’ve spent most of today setting up my new phone. I’ve changed from an android to an iPhone. I’m still trying to find out which apps are missing and updating them. Thank goodness I have a couple of password managers, so I don’t have to remember them all! I ignored the first phone call on my new phone, as it’s a different ringtone and I didn’t recognise it! Oops.

ACatAsleepInYourHat · 15/04/2026 15:17

@Umanresources Luckily I have no problem with rodents as a rule, though I draw the line at rats. Spiders on the other hand…. And don’t get me started on centipedes…!

Umanresources · 15/04/2026 15:48

Ooh all of the above Argh!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 15/04/2026 16:05

@bizzey I hope things wil turn around now. It's been so arduous for you. 💐🩷

bizzey · 15/04/2026 17:47

Thank you @Mumtobabyhavoc x

I did forget to tell you all the other funny story of yesterday.

Lovely doctor asked if she could take a photo /picture of my foot ..
I said yes ..go ahead ...I doubt if 'Only Fans ' will want a picture of it , so you might as well and we were laughing.

She said...oh don't worry about that ...there are all kind of fetishes out there that might like it ..
She said ..Bizzey ...you could be sitting on a fortune while your foot looks this .!!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣..

I said oh ..stop ...it it is making me feel sick .🤣🤣..

But I was thinking today ..
This wonderful medic I saw yesterday was a doctor not a consultant, as her title was Dr.
Not that it matters, as she went above and beyond her duty to help me yesterday .

It must seem strange that they work so hard to get the title of DR , .the they progress in their career..become a consultant..and go back to being addressed as a civilian term of Mr ,Mrs , Miss, Ms .

Any how ..I feel better than at 3 am yesterday morning 🌅 so things are progressing.
Though I think it will be a slow road .

I have some laquer to put on a nail .

In big cap letters it says do not get on surround skin.

What was the first thing I did..
Dropped a blob on the skin under my nail !! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣..

Oh boy...that stung !
I will be more careful next time .!

I think I shall put some emollient around the edges ?

Made a big pasta salad thing for lunch , nibbles, snacks , food for mam
Chef ds said it was really good 🥰!
And that was without promoting !!

Sometimes if I leave him something for when he gets in late , I ask next day how was .
He says good.
But I often think he is just being polite !🤣🤣
.

bizzey · 15/04/2026 18:14

And what a coincidence !
While sorting through a bag of ...I don't know what the hell is in here sort of bag ...I came across this ..
