A quiet and friendly corner of MN to share the very dull day to day happenings of our lives. No criticisms, political discussions or controversies here - unless it is along the lines of "scone" v "scahn" and jam or cream first. Then it's gloves off! 😁

How did this start? I have found v.2, but not the original:

Havoc, what the spammers hope to accomplish with that email is to get you to click on one of the links, which will either take you to a fake Amazon webpage or download a virus to your computer.

Happy Passover, Ella, and thank you for the happy Easter wishes!

We're going to my brother's house for Easter dinner after church services this morning. I made a blueberry pie with crumble topping and a loaf of bread, and DH made his Death by Chocolate Brownies to take with us. SiL is doing salmon and ham for the meal, and didn't want us to bring anything else.

My first Crocus came up a few days ago. We're still getting some cold days and nights, but less often, and it's starting to feel more like spring, thank goodness.

We did a small clear out of the garage, just grabbing obvious things we don't want or need and then went to the tip. Very quiet and all done very quickly.

sproutsandparsnips · 05/04/2026 13:39

Happy Pesach @EllaDisenchanted
Pasg Hapus to anyone celebrating!
Was a joyful celebration today in church.
Ah I see @Mumtobabyhavoci understand now thank you ☺️

DandyDandylion · 05/04/2026 19:51

We have had a lovely lamb dinner cooked by my dbil. Also managed a yoga class that was advertised as 1 hour but went over by 30 minutes. I had been reliably informed it was one of the easier classes run at the gym but I respectfully disagree.
Happy Easter Sunday to all.

mathanxiety · 06/04/2026 02:00

Seasonal best wishes to all!

DD and I made it to the long evening church services this year - Holy Thursday and Good Friday. We gave the Easter Vigil a miss as there were seventeen candidates for baptism and confirmation, and we knew it would be a very long night. We went to Mass this morning instead and made sure to get there early to get a seat. It was standing room only ten minutes before the start. The choir was in great voice.

We had a lazy day. I found and cleaned the hummingbird feeder (they have started their migration north) and cleaned the porch windows, the better to attach a new Aldi perspex bird feeder tray by its suction cups. We will be able to birdwatch from the kitchen if the feeder becomes popular. DD made a pasta, bacon, garlic, black pepper, and parmesan dish for dinner. I had sugar snap peas with mine.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 06/04/2026 17:32

Happy Easter Monday everyone. 🐣

It's high overcast here and 12c atm. It was 18c yesterday.

Was up early with the kids, but we all managed a fairly good sleep last night.

We had a roast dinner yesterday then DH went off to France to see his Mum and his French classic car.

DD returned from her all night boat race party and is off working today punting.

I had porridge with golden syrup and did some hoovering mainly of cat fluff. DH back tomorrow.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 07/04/2026 01:51

Sounds lovely and productive, Penguins.
Does your DH ever bring anything back from his trips to France? ie something that's tough to get in England?
I brought three cheesecakes in my carry-on from a Japan trip once and olive oil, coffee, ouzo and various baklava from Greece another time. I kinda like my food, though. 😂
Spent a very nice afternoon at the beach with the kids today. Did a lot: dug around in the sand, had French fries, walked way out as was very low tide (very muddy!), checked out the pier and watched people fishing for crabs and saw the bunnies in the park in the way back. It was a great holiday Monday. 😊

When my friend who now lives in Australia visited I asked what British food he missed and he said prawn cocktail crisps. I think most people say marmite.

MyrtleLion · 07/04/2026 16:24

We spent a lot of money at John Lewis on refreshing our towels, bath mats and rugs, all of which are around 10 years old. Everything bar the rugs arrived today so my bathroom now smells like a towel showroom.

Sadly my DH has very little sense of smell so he can't enjoy it the way I can.

MrsSPenguins · 07/04/2026 16:40

There's a lot of restrictions on what can be brought back from France now so DH doesn't tend to bring things back. He takes some things.

DH will be back later today and is on the Eurostar train now. The cat woke me up at 4am for his first tuna of the day then at 6am tried DD and I for a second tin when he had not even eaten all the first. DD is working punting today and will go to a second rowing camp soon for a week. Then will be back here for a week or so before heading back to Oxford. Nice day here.

DS took DDs clean washing out of the machine and wrapped it in a blanket and left it for her. She was happy.

I hope your DD was pleased with the Women's crew win in the Boat Race. I remember going to the finish line about 30 years ago when my exH was at Keble. We managed to sneak into the boathouse for an hour to celebrate before we were kicked out. They may have brought passes and tickets in the next year.

MrsSPenguins · 07/04/2026 21:22

Yes @MyrtleLion she was happy the women won and the men's first team lost by less than expected and she loved the all night party.

DH is just back from France and DD back from a day's punting tours.

MrsSPenguins · 09/04/2026 22:37

Went gardening for 2.5 hours with DH yesterday and today preparing the lawn area for turf at back of garden. Silkies were following me digging.

Also went to dentist and had check up, clean and polish. Not been for almost 2 years but all was fine though very pricey as had to go private but at least no work needed.

Tomorrow turf arrives and silkies flooring and we need to do more gardening and more again on Saturday.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 10/04/2026 02:58

Had some more moles removed at hosp yesterday. This time it was hip/butt area and back. Feeling s bit sore, but it's ok.
Took older friend to hosp early this morning for pacemaker implant.
Have been very busy with volunteer duties's for one of Havoc's activities as well.
We all fell asleep around 3pm today and didn't wake up until well after 5pm. Just finishing dinner now, watching a doc about whales and waiting for a large load of laundry to finish so I can hang it up.

@bizzey You doing ok?

How about our thread regulars? Everyone ok? 🧡

I hope your friend's procedure will go well, h avoc.

This week seems to have flown past, thank goodness. There are Rumblings at work. I have learned through the years to keep my neck wound in and my mouth firmly shut except in meetings where minutes are taken. Basically, a team my section works with have been trying to fit a square peg through a round hole and surprise! it won't go. The person who wants it to fit isn't inclined to believe basic facts. The delusion has caused ripples, stress, and a bit of side-taking on the other team, with efforts to drag people I work with into the fray, with the potential for backstabbing because everyone wants to keep all options open. Quite a lot of people are polishing up their resumes on the quiet. It is all very Shakespearean. "Exit left with all personal effects in a cardboard box..."

DandyDandylion · 10/04/2026 08:55

Quick overnight in London with the family, this was as we were walking away from Hyde park.

Come and tell us your dull and unexciting news 35: Calmly through the day
MrsSPenguins · 10/04/2026 11:57

Sorry you needed more surgery @Mumtobabyhavoc Hope you feel better soon.

That looks a nice trip @DandyDandylion

Hope it settles at work @mathanxiety

Turf has arrived. Waiting for chicken flooring to arrive, is due in next 30 minutes. Leaking tap have been offered replacement tap or refund so have gone for refund. Have to see it goes through. It also damaged the kitchen ceiling and the vanity worktop though those are drying out and hopefully won't be too bad.

This afternoon DH is off work so we will be on day 3 of heavy gardening, and may have day 4 tomorrow as I can't see us finishing today. Watching Race Around the World and loving it.

DandyDandylion · 10/04/2026 14:20

Just seen horses cantering through Hyde park, sorry not caught up on thread.

MrsSPenguins · 10/04/2026 21:28

Chicken flooring that was supposed to arrive between 11.30 and 12.30 arrived at just before 4pm. Then could start gardening properly and did 4 hours until it got dark and got quite a bit of the turf laid. The silkies were like why are you covering our worms.

sproutsandparsnips · 10/04/2026 22:26

Oh gosh @DandyDandylionthat is adorable!
@MrsSPenguinsall sounds very productive - that must be satisfying!
@Mumtobabyhavocwhat a lovely nap you all had - I do love a nap.
sounds stressful @mathanxiety- work politics can be so tricky……
Cooked Chinese curry on Saturday - good win for boys but need at least one more win from two to guarantee staying up. DS2 has 2 games this weekend - one playing up to youth and the last ever junior game for his team before they move up to youth next season. In between he’s revising and doing his job too.
Very tired after several broken nights’ sleep for various reasons but looking forward to lovely sleep tonight.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 11/04/2026 03:01

@MrsSPenguins what did I miss?! Did your bathroom leak???😱
You must be exhausted dealing with that and a late night in the garden. 💐
Sprouts, you sound busy. I hope you are getting the sleep you need tonight. 💐
Dandy, never tire of a random wildlife crossing here, either. Traffic stops to let geese cross and we take pics. #Jaded/not jaded inVancouver 😂
Oh, Math, work stress is just the worst. 😔

Had a nice afternoon with the kids sledding up on Mt Seymour. Making a pot of soup with lamb bones from dinner earlier in the week. I can't believe sunset in at 8pm. It seems so sudden! My incisions feel okay, still a bit sore on the one from last week, but it is in a tender spot. Apparently rain is on the way for tomorrow.

You have my sympathies, Math. I had a boss for a few years who had a very superficial understanding of the realities of what I did. It was a classic case of the Dunning Kruger effect. To make himself look good to his boss, he'd arbitrarily decide to set wildly unrealistic or downright impossible goals for people, including me. I would regularly have to explain to him why what he wanted was impossible, illegal, or dangerous. He'd pretend to understand, then a few weeks later, set the same goal again, as if reality had somehow changed. It was quite tiresome. His demise came about when he tried to get one of my peers terminated for refusing to agree to similarly impossible or ridiculous goals. She ultimately did leave, then complained to the board of directors about his behavior. They appointed someone to look into it, who interviewed me and others, and decided she was right. He didn't get sacked immediately, but when his contract was up, they didn't renew it, and he had to leave. Good luck weathering the storm. I'm so glad to be retired now.

Havoc, did they freeze the moles? I've had that done for a few areas that look suspicious. I've had two skin cancers removed in the last ten years, and it can be quite painful for a few days.

Pengiuns, your gardening efforts are inspiring. I've done exactly nothing so far, but in my defense, we're still getting overnight temps below freezing, so it's too early to put any plants out. That's supposed to change on Monday, when we get summer like temperatures arriving for the week.

DH has started volunteering with the Walkway Over the Hudson group I posted about last month. He's helping them with an IT project, switching vendors for IT services. DD's house buying process is proceeding, and they expect to close on the purchase in mid-May. DS is enjoying his new job and is spending most weekends with us at home.

Here's a picture of the view from the walkway. We'll have to get back up there for another visit now that the weather is nicer.

DandyDandylion · 11/04/2026 11:34

I had one of those bosses for a season and was mightily relieved when she sacked me. The person reporting to me went back to reporting to her and didn’t stay long.

MrsSPenguins · 11/04/2026 23:37

Thanks @sproutsandparsnips Hope the games go well.

Sledging sounds good fun @Mumtobabyhavoc Yes we had the upstairs bathroom tap leak, one fitted in September last year and a very good one in theory and it leaked into vanity worktop and kitchen ceiling. The worktop and ceiling are drying out and not too bad and the firm has offered to refund tap.

Thanks @MissConductUS I would have thought you would still be taking it easy after your operation but hopefully you can get back to gardening soon. Lovely photo.

Day 4 of digging and clearing soil and laying turf. 7.5 hours with DH today. And we have not finished so day 5 tomorrow. Had 2 baths today as got quite muddy both times. Had Greek yoghurt and strawberries for breakfast then beans and cheese on toast for lunch and just had veg chowmein and then some blue cheese for dinner.
