A quiet and friendly corner of MN to share the very dull day to day happenings of our lives. No criticisms, political discussions or controversies here - unless it is along the lines of "scone" v "scahn" and jam or cream first. Then it's gloves off! 😁

How did this start? I have found v.2, but not the original:

Ella. We're on the same page today! I'm roasting the lamb bones from the chops we ate for soup and I just took a rotisserie chicken apart an am boiling the bones from that for soup. It's smelling pretty good here! 😛

How are you making your keek and potato?

Was at hosp today for minor day surgery to get a mole removed. Please, everyone, cover up and wear sunscreen. No tan is safe. Get you GP to check your skin yearly or refer you to a derm. 💛

thats today’s job! I have a chicken and some goulash meat to make chicken soup.
for the leek and potato I put in caramelised onions (don’t know how many because I caramelised about 15 or so in olive oil in the morning and used it for all the soups), some confit garlic (also not sure how many because I did a big batch and split it for all the soups) then chopped 6 or 7 massive leeks, green bits and all, sweated that down to soft with the onion and garlic, add in a load of peeled and chopped potatoes, water, salt pepper and some dried thyme, cooked and blended. Yummy! It’s quite thick but I like that in a soup.
i also made Passover cookies (almond flour and chocolate chips).

Ooh, are those cookies gluten free Ella? My DH is coeliac so they might make a nice treat for the bank holiday weekend. That said the Easter bunny has quite a lot of chocolate ready to be hidden 🍫🐰🥚

Mumtobabyhavoc · 31/03/2026 07:56

Ella, thank you! I think I'll give that a try. It sounds delish!

Took kids out to the park by the airport to watch planes after dinner. It was a gorgeous night and even though just 5c it didn't really feel cold. 🤷‍♀️

Yep- they’re not bad! I’m on my third batch. Be warned they spread a lot. They puff up in the oven and then collapse after.

I have a chocolate cookie recipe to try after. I’ll let you know how that goes.

We are just back home from a week in Là Gomera where is was about 20C all week. We did a lovely dolphin and whale boat trip and saw bottlenose dolphins, pilot whales, Bryde whales and flying fish. Also went kayaking along coast, to Garajonay national park, hired a Fiat 500 cabriolet and toured the island, swimming in outdoor pool which has views to á snowy mount Teide and spa 3 times.

Hope everyone has a good Easter.

Lovely food Ella.

Sorry about your surgery @Mumtobabyhavoc

Exciting about house @MissConductUS

Those pics look like postcards 😍😍😍 doesn’t look real!

MyrtleLion · 31/03/2026 18:15

Went to buy towels for the second day running. Unsuccessful again.

They all have different mixtures of cotton and tencal and viscose. John Lewis ones were lovely yesterday but we weren't in the car and didn't want to lug a load of towels around. Dunelm didn't have a good range of colours. And all bathmats now appear to be 80cm x 50cm but ours are much bigger.

We did buy a sofa. It will arrive in June.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 31/03/2026 18:38

Penguins, trip sounds great!!!! 😍😍😍😍
I don't kniw why I didn't realize you were off so soon and now you're back. 🤦‍♀️
Surgery was super fast. Sore today, but it's a minor thing, really, as I am being super proactive. I'm expecting the biopsy results to be negative. Getting 3-4 more taken off next week.

It's mostly sunny here and was down to 1c over night. Forecast shows 19c this time next week! Have chocs for kids for Easter hunt I will do for them, but not anything specific for their baskets. Need to sort that this week. Have got volunteer stuff for one of the dc's activities which feels a bit overwhelming atm as it's a lot more involved than I anticipated.

@MrsSPenguins, what a fabulous trip and lovely pictures! And it is exciting about DD buying a house. They had the inspection done last week, with no major issues, and the seller agreed to fix some minor ones that came up.

@MyrtleLionI love the Supima cotton towels from Lands End. They don't have a lot of colors available on the UK, but it's worth a look.

It's quite warm here today, about 25C, so it feels like spring is really arrived. I had a nice walk this morning.

DS spent last weekend at home with us, and we went out for a lovely meal on Saturday night. The cats were perturbed when he left.

Thanks @Mumtobabyhavoc Enjoy the Easter egg hunt.

Thanks @MissConductUS Great news about survey.

Thanks @sproutsandparsnips Swimming sounds good.

Just a day of trying to sort the house after a week away. Cleaned upstairs living room and dining room. Kitchen and downstairs bathroom to finish tomorrow. Plumber called for leaking tap we have, hopefully tomorrow. DD has been doing her punting job. Ordered chickens flooring wood chip and some turf. Think the chickens ate the lawn seed. Cat very happy everyone home.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 01/04/2026 23:31

Penguins, they likely did and thought 😋
😂😂😂

Had dc to the Aquarium today for the "scuba" Easter bunny. No tears this year. 😅
Just watching the Artemis II launch! 🚀
We've been to the NASA Lego exhibit at Science World so many times and it's fun to have the kids see a real space launch! 😊

Just a PSA: Have rec'd three emails from Amazon Prime that my account was suspended, a glitch was fixed and then Welcome to Amazon Prime. I thought it was odd and noted to check into it. Saw the emails today issue was resolved etc. but seemed weird. The email missed a word in a sentence. 🧐 Phoned Amazon and the emails are fake.
If any if you see something like this, please report to Amazon customer service and check your account. I cannot stress enough how legitimate these emails looked. Do not click on any email links.

That's horrible, havoc. One of my DDs had her Amazon account hacked and customer service could only help her close it down. She can't get it back. She decided to just live without it. Luckily she didn't have much credit left on it after Christmas.

We've had two days of evening thunderstorms here. Last night's was very full on, with streaks of lightning all over the sky when DD and I were returning home (via McDonalds drive thru) from Holy Thursday Mass. We went out again this evening for Good Friday and were thankful we remembered to bring our umbrellas with us.

I had the day off today and ran errands before the thunderstorms started.

Hope weather improves @mathanxiety

Glad you had nice time at aquarium @Mumtobabyhavoc

We have just been getting house sorted after being away a week. Its all been cleaned except one room, washing done except one last load and will do gardening today to finish the final path and prepare for turf and some clearing. The cat woke me up at just before 6am wanting his tuna then unusually the silkies were very noisy at 6.30am and woke DD up who asked DH to go out and see them. He went out and found a hedgehog with them so that was why they were noisy. The cat then got very excited at being able to see birds in the garden.

DH has just taken DD to the train station, she is watching the Oxford/Cambridge boat race today and then has an all night party in London at a friends house for it. She has been working punting a lot.

We also got Easter cakes yesterday from the bakers, cinnamon heat in oven chelsea buns, Easter brownies and hot cross buns and a Waitrose food order.

sproutsandparsnips · 04/04/2026 20:36

@MrsSPenguinssounds like you have accomplished a lot since you got back. Not sure if I missed it but where did you go? I see Oxford won the women’s race for the first time in a few years.
Thunderstorms sound spectacular @mathanxiety- I must confess that they make me anxious since as a child I had the Observers book of the weather and imagined all sorts of disasters!
@Mumtobabyhavoc- it certainly looked convincing. I think I must be naive but I don’t quite see what scammers are hoping to achieve with that email?
Quiet Easter weekend so far, went to church for Good Friday Liturgy yesterday and then again for a performance of Stainer’s crucifixion in the evening.
Just ventured out to watch our athletic (2nd) team today in what was an entertaining game. Now watching Ospreys but in Welsh which I don’t understand particularly well. It’s sold out to paid for channels but S4C can show it for free as in Welsh language.

MyrtleLion · 04/04/2026 20:44

My DH had one of those "sorry we missed you, it will be 69p to rearrange delivery" texts allegedly from DPD. So he called DPD to complain and was very shame-faced that he had fallen for a scam. Coincidentally DPD delivered his replacement Apple Watch an hour later. The original had been stolen in transit.

He's an IT consultant so it's rare that he falls for scams.

sproutsandparsnips · 04/04/2026 20:58

You’ve got to be so alert @MyrtleLionhavent you? I’m constantly fretting that I’ve fallen for a scam…..

MrsSPenguins · 04/04/2026 21:12

We went to La Gomera @sproutsandparsnips was the pictures below, you fly to Tenerife and get the 50 minute Fred Olsen ferry over. Glad you are having a nice weekend. It's very traditional and Spanish.

We cleaned DS bathroom, did some more washing and went out in the garden, finished the final path, cleared leaves, cleared some things out and prepared some of the ground for turf. Enjoying our Easter cakes and just had Waitrose giant chicken Kiev's and cauliflower, broccoli and 3 cheese bake then a hot cross bun from the bakers. DD is now at an all night London based boat club party. She said the women might just win and they did. She said men stood zero chance. Lots of bulbs and flowers out.

More baking today for Passover. As fast as I bake cakes, they eat them! Trying a one bowl chocolate cake recipe today and hoping it works, because I’ve had enough of separating and beating eggs!

I managed to flop a sort of potato and meat stew- burnt some meat bits while the potatoes were a bit hard 😂😂 DH loyally ate it and said it tasted nice, bless him.
