A quiet and friendly corner of MN to share the very dull day to day happenings of our lives. No criticisms, political discussions or controversies here - unless it is along the lines of "scone" v "scahn" and jam or cream first. Then it's gloves off! 😁

How did this start? I have found v.2, but not the original:

Keeping my fingers crossed for you Myrtle.

Wishing you success, Myrtle.

Hope you'll all feel better soon, Havoc. Having your mum to look after adds to the load.

dizzy I have an old white t-shirt cut into strips that I soak in bleach and plaster to the grout and caulking in my shower. I leave it to work overnight and peel it off the next morning. It works quite well.

sprouts happy birthday to your husband. I hope he had fun in Ireland.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 10/03/2026 06:17

It might be another sleepless night. Baby was sick after eating the tiniest bit of dinner which was chicken broth and pasta w a bit of butter.. I messaged the pediatrician advising it's now 4 days of vomiting, had diarrhea and eating very little as well as weight loss. At least Baby is taking liquids now, so I'm not panicking.

After cleaning up Baby and cleaning the bathroom (again) I managed to get out to Costco for a few things before closing, but forgot bathroom/all purpose cleaner, so popped over to Walmart for that and walked out with Mr Clean, a sponge mop, 2 packs of Lysol wipes and a tub of froyo, then went to Whole Foods and bought the last 4 boxes of Belgian waffles as they were on sale, whipping cream and a chocolate eruption cupcake which I ate in the car like an animal before driving home.

Mumtobabyhavoc ; Maybe leave the butter out next time? It might be a bit rich for a delicate tummy. Have you tried rice and chicken, like we give dogs with upset tummies (not being rude!)/

MrsSPenguins · 10/03/2026 08:30

Thanks @dizzydizzydizzy

You poor thing @Mumtobabyhavoc having to still deal with that. Hope the end is in sight and maybe don't try the whipping cream on the kids yet.

I seem to have COVID, must have got from DH. Started Sunday. Have the COVID rash. Feel awful. Messaged doctor to see if they will give anti virals though don't qualify as chemo in 2022. Having paracetamol every 4 hours 4 times a day and drinks. DH started on Friday and feeling a bit better today so hopefully not too long.

Thanks Sprouts and happy 50th to your DH.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 10/03/2026 09:51

Oh, no @MrsSPenguins !
I'm sorry to hear that. 😟
Please take good care and get a lot of rest.
Covid can be the worst.

I'm just getting into bed now at 2:30am.
Sat up watching dc and scrolling Amazon; bought Havoc a "half" birthday gift; and then read msn online "news" which is just crap and repetitive these days. I miss the old version with the categories layout as opposed to the endless scroll. I should check if there's a desktop version. 🤔

I've left dc asleep in the living room and am loading podcasts. I'll likely get only a couple hours to myself before the ducklings wake up and come looking for me. 🐥🐥

Poor you @Mumtobabyhavoc. It’s a never ending cycle, or so it seems. I hope this is the last round now.

@MrsSPenguins I didn’t know there was a Covid rash. Every day is a school day! Get well soon.

I’m just waiting for the nurse to come and dress my legs again. They can be here any time from 8 am to 7 pm, so I get up early; this morning it was 6, so I feel as though I’ve been downstairs for ages. My Purdy and Figg parcel has just been dropped off. I might have to gift it to someone else. I have a drawer full of the gorgeous scents that I haven’t used yet. They are essential oil based products for cleaning. I saw a video where someone had put one of the cleaning cloths around a pan lid, fastened it with an elastic band, sprayed the cloth with the cleaning spray and then wiped over all the upholstery. I might give that a go later!

We have an Ocado order coming later this afternoon and I’ve got some treats in there for me, maybe mainly seafood based. 🤣 I can’t resist them.

I’m going to do a meat order later. There are a couple of online butchers that I favour, so I’ll have to have a look at what we fancy. I know we do need chicken, as we eat more of that than anything else.

MrsSPenguins · 10/03/2026 14:54

Hope you can get some rest @Mumtobabyhavoc

Yes @Umanresources some people get a rash with covid. I do, all over my chest / stomach area so I know without testing.

Doctor has prescribed anti-virals (pax ones), they made me feel sick last time but they don't have alternatives and would rather have the option. DH is just fetching them for me. He's getting a bit better and got his 2 days before me but its one of those things that comes back. We haven't been ill for several years but this is like being run over by a bus. At least should be better for getting DD back from uni on Saturday (DH will get).

MrsSPenguins · 10/03/2026 16:17

Chemist had my Tamoxifen but will take 2-3 days to get Paxlovid which is dicey on timescales but gone with them ordering it as don't feel well enough to phone round.

Can't drink anything hot and hard to eat solid things. I have weird food things today which is making DH laugh at least. First thing was fruit yoghurt, then chicken crisps, now a cheese and pineapple hedgehog. Drinking lime juice and sparkling water. At least DH is slightly better today. I am so itchy and fluish. Cat has been really sweet, he saw I looked weak and looked very concerned then came on the bed right up to me and stayed for cuddles twice.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 10/03/2026 18:20

Uman, that's a pretty big window to wait and put your day on hold for. Bizzey was crazy for those same products last year, I think. How are you feeling overall now?

Penguins, you're right about feeling better then getting hit again with Covid. I always know I have Covid due to a bizarre sense of smell (burning, mouldy smells) and feeling pretty good then unable to get out of bed again. It's the virus that keeps on giving for me. I'm glad you are getting Paxlovid. I wish it was easier to get/generic here. Much easier access in the States for it - iirc Miss got it quite easily last year. Also, the focus on Covid has completely diminished here. No precautions, not taken seriously etc. we've learned nothing. 🙄
I hope the medication works fast for you and I'm glad you have access to it. 🩷💐

It's a SNOW DAY here!!!! Finally!!! It's supposed to turn to rain shortly- Boo!- but I'm enjoying watching it while I can. ❄️❄️❄️
I tinted the whipped cream pink to make it special for the kids.

MrsS I’ve only had Covid once, thank goodness. Extremely bad headache and couldn’t get out of bed for a couple of days, didn’t want food or much drink but apart from that no other symptoms and only had paracetamol for pain. Hope you get back to normal very soon.

Havoc your sickness hasn’t stopped you making lovely meals. I don’t know where you find the energy. It is a long day waiting for the nurse, but I honestly have no other plans, as I can’t go out anywhere. I keep threatening to do some painting, but haven’t managed to do that yet. Today I managed to finish reading the Christmas TV magazine, that I’ve had since early December! I don’t know where the time goes.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 10/03/2026 20:44

Thanks, Uman. I do like my food and am happy that I feel like eating again. I am now over the d&v virus, thank god!, and just seem to have the cold from the previous week, but even that feels better as sinuses aren't as bad and cough is less forceful. 😅
I'll tell ya, I have seriously considered home-schooling. I can't take the constant illnesses from the dc. We were out all October and now Feb/March. It's just me keeping the ship afloat, so it's rather precarious. Having said that, Havoc got in by lottery to French Immersion for kindergarten out of catchment, so it's going to be a commitment. And on that note, we've spent the past hour+ doing school here at home, French, weather and now Alpha Blocks. 🤓

@Mumtobabyhavocyou are amazing, with all you do for the children and you seem to take it all in your stride as well as making delicious food!
@MrsSPenguinshope you and DH feel better soon.
@MyrtleLiongood luck with the job.
@Umanresourcessorry about the legs, hope you didn’t need to wait too long for the nurse.
Got back from club after DH celebration - low key as many had a little too good a time in Ireland!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 10/03/2026 23:15

Sprouts, I can assure you I'm just like everyone else. 😊
Were drinks scarce, then, at your DH's party? 😂

The waffles are from Le Beau, a few blocks from Granville Island, and are now sold (cheaper as on sale!) at Whole Foods. 😊

I've sent an email to a bakery about a cake order for Havoc's half birthday coming up. Normally I'd just buy one from the case, but Havoc's heart is set on a certain special order cake. I'm a soft touch for that, so am trying to make it happen since they're only young once. 🩷

I made a pot of chicken soup with wontons, pasta and tomatoes for dinner. After that, I took the kids out for a drive and we ended up at Siegel's Bagels after touring around downtown. Baby fell asleep, but Havoc and I ate a couple in the car - rosemary rocksalt and still warm. 😋 We have 10 more for tomorrow. Oops, 9. We shared three. 😂

That looks lovely @Mumtobabyhavoc

Thanks @UmanresourcesHope nurse helped.

Thanks @sproutsandparsnips Glad you had a wonderful celebration.

Feeling really awful. DH is slightly better than me as started 3 days earlier. It started as really bad shoulder, neck, back pain needing painkillers every 4 hours then going hot and cold stomach ache bad stomach, cough that makes you feel like you will be sick, breathless, weak, dizzy, throat feels swollen so only liquids and very thin food. Rash spreading to arms and legs. Cat is worried and keeps snuggling by me and even did not demand tuna, very sweet. Hope anti-virals arrive before day 5, started on Sunday and yesterday they said 2-3 days. Grim. Not had anything since 2022.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 11/03/2026 11:13

Oh, Penguins. 😔 That sounds so awful. I hope the meds arrive asap, too. 💐

I've been up since about 2:45am with Baby who was sleeping on me and woke up vomiting. Have cleaned bathroom, bathed baby, mopped floor and put laundry in. Was just about to get baby dressed when poor thing vomited again. Back into bath. More towels into wash. Now sitting up waiting for a while hoping this round is done. 🤞🙏
I still have a bit of the "cold" from two weeks ago and felt like my sinuses and cough were a bit worse last night. Hoping not. Have had a tonne of water since waking up and done another sinus rinse. 🤞

MrsSPenguins · 11/03/2026 11:33

Thanks @Mumtobabyhavoc I hope things get better for you. Maybe try a very bland diet, things like toast, crackers.

Feeling very slightly better though whether will last don't know. We had had 7 parcels delivered which DH got.

MrsSPenguins · 11/03/2026 11:43

I am on a lucozade and benylin cough medicine diet at the moment. It's like the 1970s / 1980s here.

Awww 😂

I had to Google Lucozade:

Origin:
Created in 1927 by Newcastle pharmacist William Walker Hunter, it was initially sold in pharmacies as "Glucozade" to help with recovery

Umanresources · 11/03/2026 12:54

I remember having Lucozade Penguin. The bottle was wrapped in orange cellophane paper, which was used in collage pictures by my brother and me. The stoppers were rubber screw type, which only adults could manage to open. We could only have it if we had been really ill, as it was quite expensive. You’ve moved back to my late 50s, early 60s childhood now. I hope you have a Bunty comic to read as well. Actually I have several Bunty and Judy annuals, courtesy of EBay. I hope you are on your way to recovery now. It does sound grim for you. 💐

Get your head down Havoc while you can. Sickness and sleeplessness is not a good combination. I would have loved to home schooled my two, but I re-trained and taught at their primary school instead. I did teach them at the school on a few occasions, but didn’t have them for a full academic year. My DD was in the same year that I was teaching during one of my practises. I used to try out my lessons on her first, which was very helpful and thankfully she enjoyed it too.

i had 2 different nurses yesterday. I now have to monitor my fluid intake (and output) as they think I am becoming dehydrated. I’m in agreement that 3 drinks during the day probably isn’t enough. Back to the Lucozade perhaps 🤔!

MissConductUS · 11/03/2026 13:54

I hope everyone is feeling better. Penguins, when I had covid last fall I took Paxlovid for it and it worked a treat. I felt much better in 24 hours, so do get it if you possibly can.

Yesterday was really odd here. We had a 2.3 magnitude earthquake in the morning, and it got up to 26 C in the afternoon. The cats were convinced that summer had arrived and spent most of the day on the deck.

The earthquake was noticeable. At first, I thought it was a construction vehicle or similar passing by on the road, but it went on for too long to be that.
