A quiet and friendly corner of MN to share the very dull day to day happenings of our lives. No criticisms, political discussions or controversies here - unless it is along the lines of "scone" v "scahn" and jam or cream first. Then it's gloves off! 😁

How did this start? I have found v.2, but not the original:

Hello Helena - lovely to see you again.

Such sad news of your friend, Myrtle.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 23/02/2026 07:40

Oh, Miss, I saw a bit about NY's travel ban due to the storm. It seems pretty bad?

Welcome back @HelenaJustina and congratulations on the job.

Just getting the cats breakfast here.

MyrtleLion · 23/02/2026 10:40

Waiting in the orthopaedic clinic to discuss my fused ankle. One day it will be fixed.

Then I'm going to a furniture store to look at sofas.

Umanresources · 23/02/2026 14:14

Good luck with the sofa hunting Myrtle. I’m on the hunt for some new dining chairs, but not being able to go out, I’m searching online. I’ll have to send my OH to check them out if I see anything I like. I would like some upholstered ones this time, instead of wooden ones, with padded seats.
I got some new paints today, but I seem to spend more time arranging paints, paper and paintbrushes instead of actually creating art! I have now added masking tape to a piece of paper so I need to draw something.
The sun is shining at last; it just feels as though it’s been raining all year so far. It just drags my mood down, so today I feel a bit brighter. My OH has gone to Wales for work, leaving DD and me to catch up on our trashy TV, which I’ve missed, because she’s been away for a while. (Don’t judge us, but we are on Vanderpump Rules at the moment - not as good/bad as the original one though)

MyrtleLion · 23/02/2026 16:36

I found a very nice sofa but it has spindly legs. I'm sure it would be fine but pointy legs might tear the carpet. Still looking.

MargaretThursday · 23/02/2026 17:59

You can get things to put under sofa legs - either cups to stay put or sliders so they slide easily.

MrsSPenguins · 23/02/2026 19:01

More holiday planning. DH has gone to piano and will bring a Thai takeaway back. Will watch Below Deck from last week.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 23/02/2026 19:27

Myrtle, what about changing out the sofa legs? 💡

Had dc to school today. Will be only day this week as I'm booked every other morning. Too busy. 😔 Thankfully, it seems we are all much better, so I'll get the kids out in afternoons.
About to make lunch then rush off to specialist appt.

DD made delicious scones tonight. I did three loads of laundry. My DDs in the north east have sent me photos of deep snow, and reports of wfh days

Hope you're OK, MissC.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 24/02/2026 05:19

Math, what temp do you bake your scones at? I'm curious because practically every recipe I read in the past had a high temp so they always over-baked on the bottom for me.

MissConductUS · 24/02/2026 13:43

Welcome, @Meteorite87, share as much or as little information as you like. We have quite an age range, and we're spread all over the globe, though most are in the UK.

@MyrtleLion, I'm sorry to hear about your friend. Did you manage to do some furniture shopping? We bought quite a lot of furniture last fall for our son's new flat.

Havoc and Math, it was really a corker of a blizzard. We had about 17" of snow, and many towns near us had more. The temperature was just below freezing, so it came down as a wet, heavy snow. The 14" of snow we had at the end of January was much lighter and easier to move. Most of it was still on the ground when this storm hit, so we now have an epic amount of snow.

DH went out early yesterday to get a start on clearing the driveway with the new snowblower, but it developed a mechanical fault just 20 minutes in, so we had to do the very large driveway with our older, much smaller snowblower. It took most of the day, with the two of us taking turns. I probably overdid it, since I'm still supposed to be restricting activity after my surgery.

A week ago, they were predicting a mere 6" of snow. Boy, did they get that wrong. The storm covered the whole East Coast and broke records in many places.

Here are a few pictures. Three were taken in the morning, and we had another six inches or so until it stopped.

DH is going to have the snowblower picked up and fixed ASAP. It will be covered under the warranty, and the service at the shop we bought it from is very good. We've also been customers for many years.

I think I've had enough of winter now. 😁

Welcome @Meteorite87 . I'm one of the older ones here in UK, near Manchester. Lovely sunny day again thank goodness.
It has been the funeral of my next door neighbour today, but I wasn't able to go. There was a sign outside our driveway from the funeral director asking people not to park there. We are close to a school, so parents do park there daily. However, I've had a couple of phone calls from worried friends checking up on me, especially with the nurses calling on me regularly. I had to assure people I was feeling fine!
I've managed to put making tape around my piece of art paper and I'm going to draw my picture, ready for painting tomorrow.
@MissConductUS that is some serious snow. We've never had so much here, but I did see it like that when I lived in Toronto. I loved it, but I was only there for a year, so didn't have chance to get bored with it (plus I was a lot younger!)
@MyrtleLion did you manage to get a sofa? I'm all dining chaired out at the moment. I know what I'd like, but I'm not sure how much room they would take up. I think I'll have to re-think.

Hi @Meteorite87 Welcome. 😊
We'd love to hear anything you want to share.

Just waiting fir contractor to finish kitchen drawers, he will also replace stripping on entry door and adjust it and adjust bedroom closet doors.
It's gorgeous today and 3c here in Vancouver. 😎

We didn't buy a sofa. Partly because DH wasn't with me and partly because there was only one version available with the functions we want and partly because we are still in dispute with the sofa company over repairing our current sofa. Their technician says it was "incorrect use" in his opinion. I'm struggling to work out how sitting on a recliner sofa and reclining it is incorrect use. Fortunately he did say it was in his opinion, so we can say he offered no evidence.

The company will end up paying more than the cost of the repair just in paperwork and staff time by the time I have finished with them. And hopefully they will compensate us for the loss of enjoyment for half its life. We won't use them again

Hi 👋👋..just catching up with you all .
Hi @Meteorite87 .
We are a lovely bunch where people can post or not post ..and take some time off and come back and post and everyone just says hi again!

No stress or questions asked !

I have been reading the thread but late at night.
By the time I want to post Soo..my eyes are going and I go to sleep instead 😅.

Cooking is going ok.
Few hit and misses .
Yes @Mumtobabyhavoc ..I am just as excited about my soup maker as I was about Purdy and Figg cleaning stuff. .

Hope the novelty lasts a bit longer that that one did 😅😅.

My big news is ...I killed the microwave 😞.

I cleaned it .

Yep ..that was all I did !

But..er but...I maybe shouldn't have sprayed the pro foam oven cleaner absolutely everywhere inside the microwave... including maybe the air vents that ..maybe lead to electricity?

Just saying like ! ,😅😅

Any how ..
That ha snow spurred me on to get an air fryer !

It has been part of our house discussion since they came out but I said no as I didn't have enough work top surface space for one.

Now I do !

The new AF can go in the cubby hole where the MV was !!
Win win .

I have narrowed my search down to a suitable one.

It is cheaper /same price sort of than a new MV .
And seems to do so much more than what I would ever have done with my MV .
(Basically tin of beans or reheating a left over piece of something !)

So here to the next chapter in my cooking
disasters experiments 😍😁🤣!

bizzey · 25/02/2026 21:40

@MissConductUS ...amazing amount of snow .
What happens when all that melts ?

Does your grass area get waterlogged and ruined ?

Does your driveway flood ?

Annoying about your new snow blaster .
Just when you needed it most !

Mimicking · 25/02/2026 22:09

How have I never come across this thread before! (I feel like exclamation marks are a bit too excitable so I will stop at just the one).

I've had the most awful cough for around 4 weeks. It started as a chesty cough brought on by a cold. It's now turned into a dry one which has kept me up for two nights. I had a little sleep on the sofa earlier, but I woke myself up coughing.

I just put a load of washing on. I wish I never now because I can hear the machine squeaking. It's fairly new and I paid for it to be plumbed in and balanced. They didn't do a very good job because it's not level, hence the squeaking. I tied to sort it out myself but one of the feet won't budge so I gave up.

I think I'll set an alarm to get the washing out in the morning, just to be on the safe side. I have a tendency to forget and then I have to rewash the load.

Goodnight.

bizzey · 25/02/2026 22:28

@Mimicking ..why settle for one ! When you can can have more !!!! 🤣

I terrible for adding things that are not grammatically correct .
Sqeeky washing machine is so annoying .
Trouble is ..the more you heat it ... the louder it becomes...even though to someone else , it might not be that loud !

Mumtobabyhavoc · 25/02/2026 22:50

Welcome @Mimicking Why haven't you found us? Could it be due to the very low-key nature of our posts that don't typically boost us into Trending? 😂

What a pain about your washing machine! 💐
Sorry you've been sick for so long - are you my twin? I've been battling a cold/Covid this month and just when I thought I was over it I had a sleepless night last due to post nasal drip and an increasingly sore throat. What do you think is the cause of your cough for so long?

So, I'm blaming the 2 year old with the snotty nose in the dc's class a few days ago as the source. 😫

OP posts:
Mumtobabyhavoc · 25/02/2026 23:34

Oh, Bizzey, boo to the microwave kicking the can, bit it does sound like it was the best for all. I have a very old one, so it will likely give up the ghost soon. I'll be interested your culinary adventures with an air fryer now! 😁

Myrtle, the audacity to suggest error in use as the reason for your couch woes. I hope you are heading to small claims.

I've now taken Tylenol for my sore throat and had two thick as slices of whole grain seeded sourdough, toasted, with butter and pistacchio spread and two cups of strong tea. I'm feeling more sick now than this morning. 😔

I did get to a doctor appt this morning, though, and while driving the check engine light came on and the car was running very rough. I called my mechanic who offered an appt an hour later. When I arrived he had ordered parts and repaired the car immediately.
It was spark plugs and connecting wires.
Cost with tax was a little over $200.

I've got "school" on YT for the kids (songs teaching anatomy) and I'm heading to bed. Ugh.

Miss, yes, definitely do not over-exert yourself. 💐 Frustrating that a brand new machine breaks when needed most. 😣
