A quiet and friendly corner of MN to share the very dull day to day happenings of our lives. No criticisms, political discussions or controversies here - unless it is along the lines of "scone" v "scahn" and jam or cream first. Then it's gloves off! 😁

How did this start? I have found v.2, but not the original:

Just finishing lunch. We've all had carrot cake and a Perrier for dessert. Havoc wanted to drink from the can. Baby did, too, so we split one with me getting my half in a cup. Then baby a wanted mine, so Havoc needed a cup, too. Next thing I knew Baby's was tipped over. So, I cleaned that up and am now dealing with tears as I'm not giving another. I've got Havoc in the kitchen now to finish drinking. Have had words with my mum to leave things in the garbage (dementia) and baby is now yelling at me. 😭

It's actually past nap time...

OP posts:
Mumtobabyhavoc · 09/02/2026 22:48

Have now learned the yelling was due to me throwing away baby's lunch, which apparently was still wanted, after it had sat for an hour (most eaten, though). A brioche bun was offered and fine, until it wasn't 2 mins later when pizza was wanted. I gave a piece on a piece pf paper towel and that caused baby to back away screaming at me like I was the Devil. I finally determined the pizza needed to be given wrapped up in tin foil like the left overs in the fridge. 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️
All is good now. 😅
I'm having another Perrier (blackberry). 😵‍💫
I can see the pizza on the tin foil sitting on the floor down the hall and hear the kids playing in the bedroom. 😵‍💫

I would like to cover our patio with decking Mrytle but is made up of very ugly 70s concrete 2’x3’ slabs. Obviously all the grout has gone so it’s full of weeds. Trouble is we seem to spend all our money on the inside of the house and never get around to the garden.

I have heard dementia is an illness that is very hard on relatives Havoc. You lose a tiny piece of the person’s personality each day. I forget how old babyHavoc is but am as I read your posts I am getting flash backs to the terrible twos. They weren’t too bad for me but there was lots of very illogical behaviour. The classics thread about cutter up pears might sound familiar to you at the moment.

I went to a session all about pressure points and meditation yesterday and then had the best nights sleep of the year so far. Really must try to put time aside for self care more often.

Watching the news in horror about a school shooting in a small town north of here in a community called Tumbler Ridge. Nightmare.

OP posts:
bizzey · 11/02/2026 08:24

Reading about it now @Mumtobabyhavoc 😥.

How absolutely shocking.
Thoughts and prayers with all those affected by this tragedy .

Umanresources · 11/02/2026 13:58

@Mumtobabyhavoc I thought about you as soon as I heard. Such heartbreaking news for everyone, especially the families and friends. Thoughts and prayers for all ❤🙏 💐 🕯

MissConductUS · 11/02/2026 15:51

Havoc, I also thought of you when I heard the news about the school shooting. They're quite rare in Canada. And it was done by a man in a dress?

It's often hard to discern what's going on the minds of small children as they imperfectly form their understanding of the world. Pizza on a paper towel obviously broke an important rule.

Today is DS's birthday. He's working from home today, and starts his new job next week. We're taking him out to one of his favorite restaurants for dinner tonight, then will come home for cake and presents. He and DH are nipping out to get haircuts at lunch time.

It's officially been the coldest February here since 1996. We're just above 0 C today and it feels like spring. This is what one of the sliding glass doors leading out to the deck looked like the other morning when it was -16 C.

MrsSPenguins · 11/02/2026 16:01

Sorry to hear your Mum has dementia @Mumtobabyhavoc

Happy Birthday to your DS @MissConductUS That sounds like a lovely day.

Glad your meditation was good @DandyDandylion

I am getting my passport redone as I got it wet on the remote island last January on my return, its got through everywhere since but has been questioned twice so I prefer to renew it.

Got some new soaps, lily of the valley, lavender and rose and 2 handcreams lily of the valley and rose. My granny used to have these and I always loved them.

DandyDandylion · 11/02/2026 17:29

I too immediately thought of Havoc when I saw the news, my thoughts are with everyone affected.

Ds is still living with you then MissC? I have very mixed feelings about mine leaving home. On the one hand I will miss them, on the other everything will be cheaper (especially holidays) and they need to stand on their own feet at some point. Dd would love to live here having her washing done etc but she also wants a family one day. I do really feel for you with it being so cold, not much you can do but hunker down.

We are getting our passports and travel health cards renewed later in the year after our trip to Germany. We are fed up of all having different dates to renew. They are all coming up so it will be easier if they are done at once. The dc will only get 5 year ones but maybe by then we will be travelling without them.

I have had a day of sorting things out and then went to dd’s school GCSE options evening. She has most subjects chosen but her final choice is between geography or computer science.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 11/02/2026 21:28

Just home after a morning of errands, doctor, bank, Costco. Everyone in tow. 😁
Got my mum's new hearing aids ordered while at Costco, $2200 and her plans will reimburse 75%, so not bad.
Havoc still under the weather, but seems a bit better. 🤞
Gorgeous day today and 9c atm.
Going to make poached eggs on avo toast for lunch.
Will check the news, but carefully, I don't need certain details as I find it too disturbing and worst nightmare, actually. 💔

OP posts:
mathanxiety · 12/02/2026 03:58

havoc - shocking news this morning. I hope there won't be any contagion.
Glad baby is back to health and fighting fitness.

MissC I feel your pain. Hopefully the relatively better temps we have finally started to experience here will head in your direction soon. We still have snow on the ground, and icy patches on the sidewalks. Happy birthday to DS!

DD has reached the point of her life where many football players and Olympic athletes are her age or younger. Hopefully she'll have got over her doldrums by the time the next summer Olympics roll around.

I went to Aldi on my way home from work, and when I got back after winging it through the store without a list, DD asked me if I had remembered butter, cream, bacon, garlic, bag of tortilla chips - of course I hadn't. Se we went out again, and DD bought a pile of groceries.

Dandy, DS has been living at home for the most part. I think that some of that is down to wanting to be here to help DH take care of me when I came home from the ICU right after Christmas. He also wanted to help DH with the various snowstorms we've had. We have a very large driveway to clear. I think he also likes the fairly easy life he has here. I do his laundry, the fridge is always full, etc. And he loves our cats. I think that he'll be at his new flat much more after next week, when he starts his new job, which is five minutes from his flat but 45 minutes from our house. I'm hoping he'll come home to spend the weekends with us.

We had a nice dinner out last night for DS's birthday. The place he wanted to go is about 30 miles north of us, in a more rural area. We left early, while it was still light out, and it was lovely driving through the snow covered mountains. Dinner was very good, too.

Dandy, encourage your daughter to take the computer science GCSE, especially if she has any aptitude for maths. It's such an important skill these days.

Havoc, I wish we had a Costco near us. I spend far more than that on my hearing aids, but my insurance covers most of the cost.

Math, the forecast for next week has us in the 40's (F) for our daytime highs. I can't wait.

bizzey · 12/02/2026 13:36

I am about to experiment with a new soup !!

In case I haven't said it yet...
I love 💞 my soup maker !

I over buy veg quite a lot .
Now I don't have to worry .

And yes I know I could have just put them in a pot to boil
..but it doesn't have the same thrill as puoit in a pot and being all done ...in ...23 minutes 🤣!

I am a low level thrill seeker 🤣

DandyDandylion · 12/02/2026 20:38

I have had a chill day with lots of lemsip and paperwork. Hoping I will have kicked this virus ready for half term next week.
It has been so wet and grey recently but Saturday looks nice so hopefully I will be feeling better and get out to enjoy it.
Ds has his first ever date on Valentine’s Day and is currently baking brownies ( my recipe). I have a set of different sized heart cutters so I think the plan is to cut the tray bake in hearts for her and leave the left overs for us at home.

MyrtleLion · 13/02/2026 16:57

It's raining so my landscaping is on hold. He can't mix cement for the wall and patio in the wet.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 13/02/2026 19:10

@bizzey I don't think you've been this excited since those scented products a couple years ago. 😁
Myrtle, raining here, too, but waiting for fridge guy this afternoon.
Dandy, so lovely your DS is baking for his date. 💝

I have got the kids' cold. 😢
Sinuses feel weird as does chest. Kind of heavy.
Havoc says still doesn't feel well. ☹️
Baby seems on the up. 🙂

Kids have the couch cushions lined up on the floor and are jumping from couch onto cushions.
Honestly, I'd just like to spend the day in bed.

Hope you feel better soon @Mumtobabyhavoc

We got the farm shop fruit and veg box today with Clementines, apples, January king cabbage, Asian mustard greens, broccoli, potatoes, garlic and onions. I had some clementines with wendsleydale cheese before DS eats all of the rest. Tonight will use the Asian mustard greens in a stir fry.

My old passport has been received. We had a special collection as clearing space in the living room for a new leather sofabed which arrives next week.

Tomorrow is 6C and sunny so we will be gardening after collecting some cakes from the bakers and a rug and some cushions for DS from another shop. Hope everyone has a good weekend.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 14/02/2026 05:34

Actually am feeling ok, atm, thanks Penguins! 🤷‍♀️

Had a late dinner courtesy a Costco run I decided on at 7:15 post meridiem: rotisserie chicken, still warm pita (they have "artisan" pita that is amazing!) and grapes for the dc; tempura prawn tacos (a kit) with quinoa salad for my mum and I; then apple pie. DC both tried tempura prawn! 🤗 Pie is huge. Pic doesn't do it justice. If you're in the neighbourhood pop by for a piece! 🫠

I have a cold. Sniffles and tired and headache and weird voice. DH has it too but is able to get on with things while I need to wilt on the sofa.

I need to buy a new sofa (the saga continues but I am so bored with it), read and edit DSD's PIP claim for her (it's only taken 18 months for her to write it) and source some garden lights.

I am on MN instead of all the things.

sproutsandparsnips · 14/02/2026 19:30

Hope you feel better soon @Mumtobabyhavoc@DandyDandylionand @MyrtleLion
Glad you are enjoying your soup maker @bizzey
What a nice variety in your veg box @MrsSPenguins
I am just chilling now as been cooking for two teams all day - 7 hours on my feet in the kitchen. Two good wins though - our first team have given themselves a fighting chance of avoiding relegation and DS played his third game for the youth team - he is now allowed to play up as he is 16. It was a local derby friendly so quite feisty and DS2 was in the thick of it…….

mathanxiety · 14/02/2026 20:05

Nice weather today - it's so different from the permafreeze we had since Christmas that it feels like sunbathing weather. I've seen high school boys out in shorts but that's taking things too far. It's in the high 40s F.

I'm shaking off a cold and trying to get some chores done while also watching Olympic coverage. So far, the Olympics are winning. This is a long weekend as Monday is Presidents' Day, so maybe I'll put the cleaning of the bathroom on the long finger and just enjoy the TV today.

It's so nice to see the posts today. 🤗
Welcome back Margaret; sorry you both are under the weather Math and Myrtle; busy as ever Sprouts. 😊

We're still a bit meh here with colds; fairly certain it's a Covid strain as my sense of smell is weird; sun is out; laundry is on; left-overs will be for dinner plus a special Valentine's cake I picked up last night at Costco; need to get dressed 🙈; laundry is on; need to vacuum; need to get us lunch; NEED TO GET OUTSIDE!!!!!

Happy Valentine's Day lovely humans. 💝

Glad you have nicer weather @mathanxiety

Hope you can get rich @MargaretThursday

We got cakes from the bakers for valentines day and have had bake in the oven cinnamon buns, I've had two, DH has had one and DS has had two and will eat the remaining 5 in the night. Also got 2 Valentine's biscuits for the boys. Got a new iphone charging cable as old one stopped working. Got an order with 3 outdoor cushions, a new rug and a new non slip cushioned mat for under it. Went with DH and did 2.5 hours in the garden and I cleaned the garden shed which DS loves to go in and cleared out a few things and put the new rug, non slip mat and 3 big outdoor cushions in. DH continued laying the squirrel and hedgehog garden path, its nearly finished now. I moved one of the solar dandelion lights and it went on after. Lots of bulbs appearing in flower now. The silkies came with us. Have had a Chinese takeaway and now in bed with the cat.
