A quiet and friendly corner of MN to share the very dull day to day happenings of our lives. No criticisms, political discussions or controversies here - unless it is along the lines of "scone" v "scahn" and jam or cream first. Then it's gloves off! 😁

How did this start? I have found v.2, but not the original:

Mother F--!!!!!🤬
Today's fridge delivery also shite.
Damage and just shoddy quality.
Contacted sales and they will prioritize a solution for Monday morning.

During tail end of dealing with this, delivery guy in my kitchen still, Baby had climbed onto dining table and fell off. 😵‍💫
A quick check showed a scrape along spine.
None of use saw Baby fall so out of an abundance of caution I rushed up to Urgent Care (not hospital, it's a step down). Baby was seen fast and determined to be "ok." We were in/out in about 30 mins. I paid for an hour parking and still had 30 mins on the meter! 😊

Had left delivery guy to find his way out; but was able to call sales guy from Urgent Care and explain everything.

It has been pouring all day. I've just turned on the outdoor Christmas lights to brighten things up. I can see an apartment building two streets over with balconies lit up, too.

Thankfully, the day has wound down. 😅
Watching Olympic ski jumping.
Eating pizza (pesto, crab, bell pepper, chopped kalettes, mixed cheese)

I got up and chased it out. It's been in before and stolen items, including a hair piece and one shoe. They're losing that fear of humans. It's sad to see wildlife scavenging for food.

If you see a one legged fox with a curly brown wig topper, please return.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 08/02/2026 08:31

@Bluecrystal2
Oh, dear! 😲
That is annoying and amusing at the same time. 😵‍💫

I don't have any experience with foxes. Is there any danger?

So sorry about fridge saga and baby @Mumtobabyhavoc

That meal looks lovely @Umanresources and perfect to go with kalettes.

DS took a second bath in the night. Hopefully doing some gardening today. Forecast is good for February. We have snowdrops and winter aconites out and camellia, daffodils, hyacinth very close. We don't get foxes here where we live in the countryside but did when we lived in London. Our old cat was in love with one of the foxes and they would make eyes at each other. I had to warn her this won't end well.

bizzey · 08/02/2026 10:08

Well I have got my self into a little pickle with my though and thinking process !! 😄

I said a big shop and have got all my ingredients for big batch cooking for my house and mam.

But ..I have so many options on what to do with the ingredients... that I don't know what to do ..or infact ...what to do first 🤣😂..

I do have some bread in oven for croutons.

Never made them before.

This will be fun .
Another one of those that is claimed to be sooo easy ...yet mine look or taste nothing like they are meant to !!

MissConductUS · 08/02/2026 10:14

Havoc, I hope the baby is okay. It's good that you had him checked. Are you buying the fridge from a big box store like Home Depot or Lowe's? In my experience, their service is awful, and they subcontract the delivery to people paid a pittance. We have a local, family-owned appliance store that has always been brilliant and is often cheaper than the big-box stores.

I wish it was pouring here. We're under an extreme cold warning. The air temp is currently -18 C, -30 C with the wind chill. And we had a bit of snow Friday night that DH had to clear from the driveway. I honestly don't recall a cold spell as bad as this.

Northeast Cold Fatigue Lasts Through The Weekend With High Winds, Dangerous Wind Chills

@Bluecrystal2, does the fox really have just one leg? I'm surprised it can get into your house if that's the case. I live out in the woods, so we have loads of wildlife here, but it's rare for anything to come into the house.

@MrsSPenguins, I envy your ability to garden this time of year.

We have to drop my car off at the Subaru dealer today, as it's booked for service tomorrow. I'm dreading going out. And as much as I'd like to go to church this morning, it's simply too cold out.

This is what my front garden looks like at the moment.

RIP Croutons 😢!

bizzey · 08/02/2026 12:36

Experimenting with the oup maker now !

MyrtleLion · 08/02/2026 16:35

It was our anniversary yesterday so we went out for dinner. It was to a newish restaurant that was not great when we went about a year ago. But it has vastly improved.

Haven't drunk in weeks so regretting it today. I will be fine. I'm just tired.

And a drawer wouldn't close properly because it was jammed against something like socks at the back. We couldn't get the drawer out so DH provided a long metal rod this morning. I wiggled it around in the drawer underneath and managed to loosen the blockage.

DH had overfilled my pyjama drawer and a pair of bottoms had wedged themselves between the drawers. I weeded out some old pyjamas and all is well.

MrsSPenguins · 08/02/2026 21:35

Happy anniversary @MyrtleLion for yesterday

Hope it warms up soon for you @MissConductUS

Had roast dinner for lunch then went out gardening and then cleaning downstairs floors for 4 hours combined with DH. Cleared almost all the leaves, laid some more stepping stones, cleared some old tins, cleaned the shed, cleaned the chickens and put up the 3 new solar dandelions. We now have snowdrop, crocus and winter aconite out and several other flowers like camellia, hyacinth daffodils close.

Then we had bread and butter pudding with chocolate chips, it was so good DH and I had two lots each.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 08/02/2026 22:18

Penguins, what a nice Sunday you've had! (Actually, the whole weekend!). 😊
Your garden is going to be amazing this summer. 😍 I'm imagining your posts about sipping tea in the garden, maybe with a good book. 😊

Happy anniversary Myrtle. 🎁🥂

Miss, fridge is from a local chain.

Had a bit of a rough night. Decided to do laundry, ash floors and clean bathroom around 10:30pm last night. After I had done that and was just waiting for laundry to finish to hang up, I heard baby crying and it became more intense. Did a check, took temp, but baby was inconsolable. Noticed face and eyes looked different and realized it was a night terror. Lasted about 10 mins with kicking and baby saying things I couldn't really understand. Baby finally came out of it, and was fully conscious then relaxed and fell asleep in my arms. 😇
However, had a fever this morning, cough and a gobby nose. Is having a good nap now and fever is gone. 😅
Lazed in bed all morning trying to make up lost sleep while my mum watched dc. Got up and made pancakes. Now on my 2nd iced latte and watching Olympics' speed skating. Baby just woke up.

Bizzey, how was your soup?

mathanxiety · 09/02/2026 03:24

I'm watching the final minutes of the superbowl. NBC devoted the whole day to whipping up excitement about the game, but one sided isn't an accurate description of it. They're showing some Olympic events after the game, but I'm heading to bed as I have to get up tomorrow for work.

mathanxiety · 09/02/2026 03:25

havoc - hope you'll get the fridge situation sorted out, and hope baby is OK.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 09/02/2026 05:53

Math, how were the commercials and half-time show? I completely forgot that was on today and was watching the Olympics. It was heart crushing when Lyndsay Vonn crashed in ski racing. 😢

Just in bed with the dc now. Baby has temp of 39c. Have given Tylenol & Advil. Baby did eat some dinner and drank water, so I think fever has just come on. I'm going to stay awake and re-check temp in an hour.

OP posts:
Mumtobabyhavoc · 09/02/2026 07:02

Baby's temp is now down to normal/36.7c and baby is sleeping comfortably. 🩷

Fox attacks are extremely rare, usually involving babies or small children and often linked to rabies/illness or extreme hunger.

I have a passion for animals so am trying out harmless deterrents. It's a young, long lean fox - very beautiful.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 08/02/2026 03:58

Thankfully, the day has wound down. 😅
Watching Olympic ski jumping.
Eating pizza (pesto, crab, bell pepper, chopped kalettes, mixed cheese)

I can see you're connoisseur of good food. Looks delicious.

Bluecrystal2 · 09/02/2026 10:58

MissConductUS: It only took one shoe, but does have both legs. My neighbour feeds the foxes, and instead of a cat flat I just have a big round hole in the back door.

I always leave a bowl of cat biscuits out, so must smell them. I've put a long mirror at the top of the stairs and put a head on top. It may stop it from coming into the bedroom. The ammonia smell is unpleasant, visitors might think I'm incontinent.

bizzey · 09/02/2026 12:16

@Mumtobabyhavoc soup went down very well ! As did the beef stew I made as well .

Economy wise ...it is not going well !!!

DS keeps have 3-4 portions in one day !!

I have to admit..I am smuggly happy that he justified my food as good enough to keep going back for more ...but still !

The plan was to last a week and freeze some 😲😅.

No proper instructions on how to clean the soup maker .

Can I put a small bit of fairy liguid in and put it on clean with boiling water ?

Or should I avoid the fairy ?

Mumtobabyhavoc · 09/02/2026 14:12

Bizzey: so glad your soup etc was successful! Without Googling, I don't know what a " soup maker" is. 🤔

Not a connoisseur here. Just have an aversion to tomato sauce and don't really love processed meats that are typical pizza toppings @

@MrsSPenguinsit looks like you had a lovely day. I have never been to Kew Gardens - would you recommend? Do they do anything nice at Christmas?
@Umanresourcesthat looks delicious and not too many pots and pans to wash by the sound of it.
Oh no @Mumtobabyhavocwhat a stressful day, and now baby poorly too!
I cannot imagine how cold that must be @MissConductUS
@bizzey- you are very productive, how satisfying! I’m afraid I can’t advise on the soup maker - I use a big pan then whizz it with a stick blender.
I have just made venison (from local deer park) cottage pie with a root mash topping and will defrost leftover Christmas beef gravy to go with it.

MrsSPenguins · 09/02/2026 16:59

@sproutsandparsnips We are members of Kew, and that includes admission to the Orchid Festival and you get 1 person free each time so if two going only one needs to be a member. I love Kew and enjoy the orchid festival which is on until 8 March but need to pre book and you do have to queue - the earliest slots in the day have the least queueing. We had the first slot and it was only a few minutes. In winter there's not that much in the way of plants apart from inside the greenhouses (and orchid festival when that's on which is inside) but lots of grounds for lovely walks in nature - when we arrived a squirrel was running through crocuses, lots of geese and ducks. It is a bit muddy at the moment. With the buildings some of them you are best to pre book and some are only open in the better weather months like the pagoda, Queen Charlotte's cottage and there's Kew Palace, all worth visiting - there's also a treetop walkway. In summer more flowers. They do have Christmas lights which you can book now, we have only been once around that time as its cold, not many flowers, dark and sometimes parking is a challenge. Though past few times we have got parking just outside really easily, its about £2 an hour so quite reasonable. There's tube and train stations close and in the summer a boat runs from Westminster pier I think.

Glad baby is back to normal @Mumtobabyhavoc

Did some hoovering of upstairs, cleaned bathroom as DS took another nighttime bath. Watched some winter olympics. Had jacket potato with chicken, avocado and sweetcorn for lunch.

DandyDandylion · 09/02/2026 17:21

Not caught up but have skimmed posts. Foxes eat mostly berries and small animals so whilst I wouldn’t corner one I also don’t fear them. I once had the privilege of watching a family of fox cubs playing not far away. I was on a horse so the foxes mostly smelt the flight animal and therefore were not as wary as they would be of unmounted humans.

I need to get out and sort my garden out. I am not a keen gardener so at this time of year I have to force myself. With mostly mild wet weather recently my tubs are full of weeds though.

Everyone in my house has had a nasty virus recently. Both dc have had time off school, dd never gets ill but had a fever for three days and now had an ear infection. We are all just starting to feel a bit better but it does seem vicious.

MyrtleLion · 09/02/2026 22:03

Landscaper came today and started by removing the decking. And revealed the original patio! We're going to refresh it so we've saved a significant sum. Went for lunch with my SIL and her lovely dogs (Jack Russell and Jack.Russell/spaniel cross).

Tomorrow is the dentist, more landscaping and the sofa technician who will probably try and say the broken sofa is out of warranty. Even if it is, I have statutory rights which say it should not have broken after only four years.
