Have you ever recognised yourself or anyone else on street view?

Just that really, I’ve just seen someone I used to know (I know the face is blurred but it was definitely them) but they died in about 2012. I didn’t know them that well but it was like seeing a ghost. Has anyone ever seen/recognised anyone or themselves?

I found myself driving to work (but I knew where to look because I remembered passing the Google car)

marcopront · 17/01/2026 06:29

My Dad used to be on it by his house.

Azzure · 17/01/2026 06:35

I saw my mum's car on it once

i have seen my car though

beckaellen · 17/01/2026 06:43

It captured me pressure washing the driveway and it didn't get me at my best angle! That was several years ago now and I've moved house twice since. Also, there used to be the image of my daughter standing in her bedroom window of our flat, rather ghostly/blurry but could see it was her. Both gone from street view now, I guess it gets updated fairly regularly.

EleanorReally · 17/01/2026 06:45

i have just had a look at my new place of work, seen my car again!

HighStreetOtter · 17/01/2026 06:46

No, but on streetview outside my daughter’s flat the builders are playing dead at the side of the road 😆. It’s in a dead end so they’d obviously seen the car coming and laid down.

wertgyhjk · 17/01/2026 06:47

Yes, I've been on a couple of times (both quite a few years ago, and no longer current in Street View).

Interesting that you can’t see them anymore…I thought it just took new images but you could still see the old ones (like with mine, it was the one from 2009 so the first one ever taken of that area but there are several since. I think it says something like ‘see older dates’). Maybe we’re talking about something different. 🤷‍♀️
It’s so interesting to think what it will be like in another 10/20/30 years (if we’re all still here 😬). The ones from 2008/09 seem like yesterday to me but people who are late teens now were either babies or not even born! It was my birthday yesterday so I guess i’m feeling rather reflective 🙈🤯

Yes, DH and I were sitting in my car on our drive at our old house. You you tell it was us despite being blurry. It's since been updated, sadly.

I once saw, when I was looking at a village in the Lake District on Street View, that amongst all the people walking down the streets with their faces blurred out there was a dog with its face blurred out, too! Must have been a famous dog!

thornalizarin · 17/01/2026 07:26

That’s just prompted me to check, yep still on there 11 years later! Walking my dog and newly pregnant (with my twins who are now in their last year of primary school!)

bert3400 · 17/01/2026 07:27

Yes me and DH were captured walking down our old road, fortunately I had a lovely dress on and look really skinny 😂😂

It will still be on there, you have to click "previous dates" or something similar

Lisanne55 · 17/01/2026 07:31

Yes, I was outside my house when the Google car went past.

Megsdaughter · 17/01/2026 08:12

DH and I stood in the front garden talking ( we were duscussing where to plant a rose)
We are in a tiny village on Salisbury Plain but dont remember seeing the google car on our one track road. I must be very unobservant.

Thank you for this, I didn't realise you could go back and see older pictures.

I've just checked and my dad (who died a few months ago) is still there in 2008 outside the house doing a bit of gardening. This has made my day.

TheDandyLion · 17/01/2026 08:20

Yes, DH and I were walking through a city centre a few years ago when the car went past. I've just checked and its been updated so we're not there anymore.

billandtedsexcellentadventure · 17/01/2026 08:23

Yep

TadpolesInPool · 17/01/2026 08:25

My friend sent me a screenshot of my mum walking with my then toddler son 😄 - very distinctive hair for my mum and coat for my DS.

Google earth used to have a white blob in our garden which was my cat.

Have never seen myself but haven't really looked. Although a car did go past me a few weeks ago...

Myfridgeiscool · 17/01/2026 08:26

I was out with my two dogs when the car came into our cul de sac. I’m seen in several positions in our road and also round the corner. Neighbour is jet washing his drive. 😀

WalterMittysPuppet · 17/01/2026 08:27

I was showing my husband where my sister lives in Switzerland, and as I scrolled along the street, there was my niece walking home from school.

Temporaryname158 · 17/01/2026 08:31

I found my aunt chatting with a neighbour and my nans house has a blur of her walking round inside (huge front windows to see in) both have since died but I love these captured images of them going about their lives.

also my dad on the drive doing some sort of job - as he always is. In some ways they capture a nice bit of day to day life

Nitgel · 17/01/2026 08:32

My dad is on it twice. Outside and painting his house. It' s a really nice memento of him. :(

Thistoo2023 · 17/01/2026 08:40

Yes! It captured the exact moment that I had moved cities and was about to start my new (much happier) life! I’m standing outside with my suitcase waiting for the letting agent.

RinielUrban · 17/01/2026 08:41

Yes my mum in her car, also our house for years showed the birthday banners and balloons outside for when ds was two which was cute he used to like finding it
