@Stressybetty hope tonight is a better one

@FurForksSake totally understandable you worrying about the return to work. Itโ€™s an anxious time for you. I hope you can do it very gradually at least.

@Oioiqueen hope the fatigue monster goes away soon.

@Orangesandlemons77 glad youโ€™ve got your appointment through and dentist is just being cautious.

@MewithME enjoy a rest day tomorrow

WhatEverBlowsYourHairBack · 06/02/2026 23:19

Me again... finally got my lift and recliner chair.
At the moment my phone is propped up because l can only use my right hand ( glad im right handed).Due to my cervical spondylosis with radiculopathy and stenosis.. got an appointment with my surgeon on 18th of this month.. so which ever surgery I'm offered first l will take it.. spinal for this or my new hip replacement... looks like I'll be out of action for months.. told all my family and friends l want loads of visits .. all promising to help me in my recovery. Feeling down today due to pain insomnia ๐Ÿ˜ช.. having bladder incontinence doesn't help.. oh well tomorrow is another day.

TodayIsatrickyone · 06/02/2026 23:25

@WhatEverBlowsYourHairBack sounds like youโ€™ve so much going on, itโ€™s not surprising you're having a down day. Hope emotions settle a bit tomorrow. Im mooching on mumsnet when I should be at least trying to sleep! Ah well!

TeaAndStrumpets · 07/02/2026 08:50

Morning all!

Such a gloomy day. Woke up with muffled ears so waiting for them to pop.

@WhatEverBlowsYourHairBack fingers crossed for swift and successful surgery. Your family and friends sound wonderful.

@FurForksSake thinking of photographing stuff my DD1 has a special box she uses to photograph jewellery etc for Etsy, and I think it was cheap or homemade.

Hope everyone has a good day!

Hedjwitch · 07/02/2026 09:06

Giving myself my weekly motivational pep talk so that I attend yoga later. I just do what I can and the teacher is very understanding, but its such an effort.
I know its helping my flexibility and I WILL get there!

Swanhilde · 07/02/2026 09:37

It's DH's birthday today๐ŸŽ‚๐Ÿฅณ๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽˆ

He has requested an apple pie, which I will attempt shortly. Thankfully the apples are already chopped and frozen. They're from the big tree in the garden ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿ

It will be a lazy day with a takeaway of his choice for tea ๐Ÿ˜‹

Keep warm and dry all ๐Ÿ’•

TeaAndStrumpets · 06/02/2026 19:47

@Orangesandlemons77 that sounds hopeful if the dentist isn't panicking! Good he's being cautious. I hope you feel a bit reassured from seeing him.

The rain is relentless! But cosy indoors unless you need to go out.

@Oioiqueen the tea is piping hot I believe. Maybe @Swanhilde keeps the pot under a lovely teacosy?

I am always super early for morning blood tests just in case the nurse is running ahead of time.

Edited

It's like The Magic Porridge Pot @TeaAndStrumpets if you ever read that as a child. Produces whatever you like, piping hot, anytime ๐Ÿช„๐Ÿ˜Š

LOL yes I did think of that! More popular than porridge with this lot I suspect.

TodayIsatrickyone · 07/02/2026 11:05

Well Iโ€™m on my second cuppa of the day so Iโ€™d love a magic tea pot! Think it would be working overtime in my house as a cuppa seems to be the answer to all lifeโ€™s challenges!

I slept well, managed a shower and Iโ€™m now recovering from that on the sofa with the dog. Looks damp and gloomy but currently dry so plan is to have a mooch around the garden.

Last summer one of our garden projects was try to clear a big border of overgrown brambles which had just gone crazy over the years with both of us having health issues and not being well enough to tackle it. Took a lot of work ( mostly DH) and we made great progress chopping them down but didnโ€™t manage to get all the roots out before winter hit. Anyway that section was one that got flooded last week meaning the roots are so much easier to dig up so if itโ€™s mild enough, might encourage DH to have another go otherwise spring will hit and theyโ€™ll just grow again!

Have a peaceful day everyone

TeaAndStrumpets · 07/02/2026 12:38

@TodayIsatrickyone yes we also run on tea!

We've got masses of brambles but probably too many to get out by hand. Did you ever see that machine on Clarkson's Farm that munched up shrubbery? We'd need something like that! Our garden is quite mature and the last few years we've just done the hedges and lawns. It's a bit scruffy looking but we do have an awful lot of wildlife. Foxes and Muntjac deer come through, plus squirrels. When we moved here we had hedgehogs but sadly I haven't seen one for a while now.

Pie is out of the oven and lessons have been learnt:

Pastry can be made in the mixer ๐Ÿ‘
Rolling out chilled pastry = rolling out clay ๐Ÿ‘Ž

Had to get DH to do it for me ๐Ÿคฃ

MewithME · 07/02/2026 13:21

A'er noon all. Dozed late this morning as DS was a right nocturnal fidget so I was v late getting to sleep plus I'm on the 4am wake up again. Thanks menopause.

I had a nice bath and listen to Mark Kermode rant about the Melania film. Tidied a bit, wash on, bought DS a new game and now in bed again... mustering energy to make some lunch.

I bought veggie sausages so I'll have a soak sandwich and DS will have proper ones.

It's chucking it down so all vague thoughts of leaving the house have evaporatorated.

I'm really tired now I have thought about it.

Probably going have some Idris time. Next episode of hijack should be available now.

Hope the apple pie goes down well. I might do some sort of pie. I have leftover pasty in freezer. Also blackberries but reckon they're years old. Might try it anyway.

OP posts:
FuzzyPuffling · 07/02/2026 13:38

It's sunny again here so the second load of washing is on the line. The wind is blowing it dry and fluffy.
I can hear the faint noise from the football ground. This means there us a game this afternoon. This also means not to go put in the car, or I'll never find a parking space again til teatime.

You need a small mangle! I still remember my grandma had one, also a dolly peg and tub. She used a boiler in an outhouse to heat the water. None of your 30ยฐ eco wash.....Gosh it was all hard work in those days.

TeaAndStrumpets · 07/02/2026 14:00

@MewithME a pie sounds lovely.

@FuzzyPuffling it's certainly a good drying day for a change.

That's exactly what I was saying to DH! ๐Ÿฅต

He couldn't believe what an effort it was to roll out! (Or it could have just been my tough pastry ๐Ÿคฃ)

Anyway I'm back in bed now having a rest. We have a date set for apple pie and tea at 3pm ๐Ÿ˜

TeaAndStrumpets · 07/02/2026 14:16

I am not sure if I should feel silly or not. DH just popped out for a few hours and I heard a gentle tapping on the front door (there is a prominent doorbell) I went to answer it and a chap was standing there. He asked if the house was still for sale. I lied and said no, sorry, we have a buyer but it will be advertised if things fall through. He had very piecing blue eyes with small pupils and he stank of cigarettes, in fact the smell reached the sitting room after he'd gone. Probably perfectly innocent but I had such a gut feeling about it.

I then couldn't find either the key to the front porch, or the back door key (agent had it) so rang DH to come home. Panic over now!

This is why we always had crumble!

Stressybetty · 07/02/2026 14:25

Afternoon all, another late night but slept till 1pm, fed dogs, washing up from last night. Put more washing on. Elderly dog has become gradually more incontinent so now in some funky nappies with braces. With MIL too I now seem to be cleaning bottoms and dealing with wee etc from all directions.
No rain yet which is good. Small tiff with DH re state of kitchen as he is incapable of clearing up after himself.
Back in bed with tea and will get dressed soon.
Waking with stuffy nose and sinus headaches also hormonal, bloated and snappy, nice combo!
Need some shopping but might try and go tomorrow.
Also starting to sort and clean lounge today.
Magic teapot would be good, I remember the magic porridge pot!

Stressybetty · 07/02/2026 14:26

@TeaAndStrumpets he sounds a bit creepy, don't blame you!

TeaAndStrumpets · 07/02/2026 14:33

@Stressybetty you are very calm amid the chaos. Poor old dog. When DD2's old greyhound reached that stage we bought her a Bissell spot cleaner for their rug and it was brilliant for the odd accident. A nappy sounds like a great idea though if your dog doesn't mind, and eases your burden.

My DH will tidy if nagged but he seems incapable of ever getting rid of anything, always wants to hang on in case something comes in handy.

TeaAndStrumpets · 07/02/2026 14:40

Stressybetty · 07/02/2026 14:26

@TeaAndStrumpets he sounds a bit creepy, don't blame you!

A few years ago I was sitting in the bay window when some chap walked round the house peering in several of the other windows- he couldn't see me from where I was. He then rang the bell so I decided better to answer it (knees knocking). I shouted "I'll get it!" before I opened it so he would think there were other people around. When I opened the door he asked if I wanted any trees trimming.

TodayIsatrickyone · 07/02/2026 14:44

Yes that sounds a bit unsettling @TeaAndStrumpets he really should have gone through the agent!
We do have a wild bit too and I agree the wildlife is nice but thatโ€™s a bit more out of sight, out of mind! This border I can see from the kitchen window and has just got incredibly overgrown and be nice to get it cleared and put something prettier there in Spring but itโ€™s really been a hell of a job that I wondered why weโ€™d started! We just got out there, did 10 mins and the rain came down ๐Ÿ˜‚ so going to have to wait a bit longer!

That sounds challenging @Stressybetty My old dog who lived til over 17 became incontinent and I also had to go down the nappy route and amazingly she didnโ€™t mind bless her!

The walk sounds good know what you mean about the fatigue though it's a difficult balance.

On the meds and dreams a low dose of amitriptyline can be helpful with sleeping and pain. Wonder if that might be worth a try?

Well done getting the blood test out of the way

It's amitriptyline I'm weaning off haha. It was used for nerve pain from my mets which was keeping me awake overnight. It gave the wonderful death sleeps even at just 20mg but apparently vivid dreams are a common side effect when weaning off them. I had an early night last night and they weren't too bad so it's beginning to leave my system. Another couple of weeks and hopefully completely stop the drug fingers crossed.

Oioiqueen · 07/02/2026 15:12

@TeaAndStrumpets hopefully a large knitted one over the teapot. I know H a t you mean about the blood tests. 2/3 weeks mine are 9am bloods so my 9.15am at the latest. Then the remaining 1/3 doesn't need to be time restricted. You can't have bloods more than 3 days before treatment so they always have to be on Fridays.

@Hedjwitch I find the getting to a session harder than the actual session itself sometimes. Hope you managed OK in the end.

Are you all down south or something? I keep seeing pictures of sunshine but in the Midlands I think we've had one afternoon of sunshine in two weeks. I've given up even hoping I can get the washing outside any time soon.
