I'm working but hiding today. I've left out of office on..a bit naughty but it's necessary. I've had an ok morning doing what I need to do and getting some deep focus for once.

In the list of things trying to mess with me though, workmen have sat in a massive truck with the engine idling since 8am. They're down the road but the hummm is really bad and just aggravates my tinnitus. I've had to wear my earbuds all day.

God knows what they're up to.

I had my daily blotchy neck and chest and feel very wobbly. Going to bed for an hour now.

I can do you a mint tea @MewithME I've not made a dent in the huge bag we brought back from Morocco last year! Sugar or not? โ˜•

@TeaAndStrumpets that sounds very much like one we had at home growing up, but the shelves were wood affect - v 1970s! I don't think ours ever moved, more a stationary drinks trolley ๐Ÿน๐Ÿธ๐Ÿฅƒ

Yours sounds much more funky and useful ๐Ÿ‘

MewithME · 06/02/2026 14:09

Ohh no sugar ta ๐Ÿ˜‰

That's good you were able to get a rest MewithME. Hope the idling vehicle is gone now that sounds annoying

I've had a bit of a sleep and feel slightly better. Less shaky. But the rain is bad and haven't got my prescription yet. Maybe I can send one of the DSs to get it

Orangesandlemons77 · 06/02/2026 14:27

I would have tea but having a cup soup sweet potato

Stressybetty · 06/02/2026 15:04

Afternoon, have I missed the tea run? Strong tea one sugar ta.
My grandma had a tea trolley with a pattern of flowers on I think, gold rails, used to serve dainty little sandwiches, tea and cake.
Rubbish day, still raining, cold, muddy.
Another night of still being awake till 3am then MIL woke at 4am and needed soothing and resettling.
Still it's Friday. DH and I have agreed to clean and tidy the lounge this weekend.

FurForksSake · 06/02/2026 15:11

I really fancy a nice afternoon tea, though I donโ€™t drink tea. Makes it all a bit awkward, but Iโ€™ll still eat the dainty cake!

That sounds so hard. Hope you have a better night tonight Flowers

I finally took melatonin last night and slept for 12 hours!!! The joy of a night's sleep. I wish I'd tried it before now

Whoa. They use it for jet lag don't they? Exh used to order it on the internet!

I'm having a glass of red which will give me heart palpitations and knock me out but I'm being reckless. I've worked really hard today on my sick day ๐Ÿ˜† I should be off sick more. I got loads done not answering emails or teams messages. Deadline is looking more doable but it is relentless. I'm shattered.

I'm weirdly grateful for the bad weather. I will have a guilt free day at home resting tomorrow. Hopefully DS won't mind. He's seeing friends on Sunday so he'll have a nice weekend. Wish I could be more fun though.

Anyway..... Weekend is here...I do declare ๐Ÿ˜๐ŸŽ‰

Weekend is indeed here. Iโ€™ve got one more week before I start my phased return and Iโ€™m out of my mind with anxiety over it.

Also very, very close to blacking out multiple times. Iโ€™ve eaten plenty, had lots to drink and had some sugar. Iโ€™ve now taken some electrolytes. Iโ€™ve got a gp appointment in march which should be for my gynae stuff but Iโ€™m going private for that and think Iโ€™ll talk about the blackouts and tachycardia instead.

MewithME · 06/02/2026 18:06

@FurForksSake do you have to go back? XFlowers

OP posts:
FurForksSake · 06/02/2026 18:14

@MewithME financially, yes, for now. And Iโ€™m half way through a bloody post grad that reading uni emailed me about yesterday checking in coming back.

I was pretty unhappy at work before, so this all feels hard.

Im hoping theyโ€™ll agree to 4 days. Iโ€™m hoping I can start making some money from pottery and Iโ€™ll hit a target of replacing the majority of my nhs wages with other sources. Iโ€™ve just been accepted to do Tiktok shop so might give that a go and sell leggings to people ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿซฃ (Itโ€™s eye opening, I can apparently ask for free samples or a refund if I sell something and then they tell you how much commission you get per sale, it isnโ€™t bad).

TeaAndStrumpets · 06/02/2026 18:27

@FurForksSake that sounds like a lot of stress all at once. When will you have stock from your pottery making? Will you sell it online or via a shop? DD2 has an Etsy shop and posts pictures of her stock on Instagram with an Etsy link in her profile. I don't know anything about TikTok!

I agree. That sounds like an awful lot.

I think you should delay the postgrad as much as poss. Or sack it off completely. How far into it are you?

In theory, I'd love to do a PhD. In practice, I won't because I can't afford it financially or for my health.

Hope you can make the phased return work. Have you got a decent HR dept and line manager?

I did my sound bath video at lunchtime. I seem to be keeping my head straight just now at least. Keep on keeping on....

Itโ€™s going to take me a good while once the garage is sorted to build up enough decent stuff to sell. Iโ€™m hoping that having a Wednesday and weekends I will be able to build it up and hopefully start with some Christmas markets. Iโ€™ve got a website, insta and TikTok waiting for me to actually make stuff! I also need to get a proper logo made with my business name and register and get some insurance.

So basically, I reckon in November Iโ€™ll be able to start selling in person, if I can get some bits on Etsy and the website before that I will.

Ive got to learn how to take product pictures, thatโ€™s hard too!

What are you up to today if you have a chronic illness? Thread 5
FurForksSake · 06/02/2026 18:36

@MewithME the postgrad js a work thing so i canโ€™t drop it without quitting really. Iโ€™ve done all the taught elements, Iโ€™ve got an essay, recording and presentation to do. The postgrad is the bit I probably enjoy at the moment and allows me to do part of my job k enjoy (supervision of colleagues).

I work for the nhs so itโ€™s good but very strict in some ways.

MewithME · 06/02/2026 18:42

Ah I see. Well then I hope the anxiety will pass. It's probably like the ultimate Sunday blues feeling!

TeaAndStrumpets · 06/02/2026 18:47

Best of luck, you have a great plan!

FurForksSake · 06/02/2026 18:52

thank you. I just canโ€™t get my head round coping. Iโ€™m exhausted still but Iโ€™m hoping that maybe doing more will get me more energy and the pain will decrease in my back. I went to Aldi yesterday and realised how broken my body can still feel. But Iโ€™ve got to try going back. I either have to quit and do something else or try this phased return. Iโ€™ve for my discussion with occupational health next Wednesday and need to say the right things to be allowed back.

Oioiqueen · 06/02/2026 19:07

Evening all. Is the tea still warm? Milk no sugar please

Weekly blood test this morning, was back home just after 9 which was grand as I arrived early and got called in early. I'll take that! I then decided on my daily walk adding a bit of spice with a bit of a very slow plod into it. The endorphins after felt absolutely incredible! However now my fatigue has crept in, even though its been my week off chemo the fatigue is like a monster that creeps out from under the bed and grabs my foot haha. I've started tapering off some pain meds and where it used to knock me out for the night I'm getting some stressful dreams which are quite unsettling.

The walk sounds good know what you mean about the fatigue though it's a difficult balance.

On the meds and dreams a low dose of amitriptyline can be helpful with sleeping and pain. Wonder if that might be worth a try?

Well done getting the blood test out of the way

Orangesandlemons77 · 06/02/2026 19:25

Had an appointment for the weird mouth thing to go to hospital in a months time. Not that urgent then. The dentist thinks it's something called a torus which is a bony growth in the roof of the mouth. Quite common. But it's got some odd colours he wants checked. Oral maxillofacial surgery.

I'm starting to feel like one of the elderly pleased that the hospital and GPs are near by.

Hoping for a break in the rain for us all although I know what you mean about it sometimes being nice to stay home in it. Sometimes I listen to the rain and it's quite soothing

TeaAndStrumpets · 06/02/2026 19:47

@Orangesandlemons77 that sounds hopeful if the dentist isn't panicking! Good he's being cautious. I hope you feel a bit reassured from seeing him.

The rain is relentless! But cosy indoors unless you need to go out.

@Oioiqueen the tea is piping hot I believe. Maybe @Swanhilde keeps the pot under a lovely teacosy?

I am always super early for morning blood tests just in case the nurse is running ahead of time.
