@Swanhilde one of the first people I met with ME took up painting so she could sit and "do" something while she was resting. She became quite good at it in the end. It gives you more control I suppose. I curse my stiff neck and shoulders because I can't sew any more but luckily I do enjoy reading.

My sciatica pain has moved from the side of my leg to the front after seeing the osteopath yesterday, last week it was stiff the day after too so hoping it will be no worse! Nothing painful as such, more of a crampy tingle.

Hi all.

I'm struggling to keep up with the thread. Struggling today a bit generally. I feel like I might be heading for a flare again. I have to go to school for a meeting today which is scheduled to be until 5 pm, then driving home in peak hour so really worried about how that will work out. I can take most of the day tomorrow though so hopefully can ward off anything too major. But that has never worked in the past!!

Hope everyone is as okay as can be. Thinking of everyone with chronic illness. It's so debilitating and depressing. Truly life-limiting. Thanks

TeaAndStrumpets · 22/01/2026 13:53

@SpringingIntoSummerLobelia oh that is the worst time of day to travel! Hope you have an easy evening meal planned, that's always an added inconvenience.

I hope you get to recuperate tomorrow!

FuzzyPuffling · 22/01/2026 14:20

I popped round to DD1's for coffee. She gave me a beautiful green glazed cache pot for my birthday. It's gorgeous- but too heavy bird me to cart home on the bus, so she'll bring it later.

And then the bus took a wrong turn! This is the second time its happened to me in the past month. I must jinx the drivers! ๐Ÿ˜

TeaAndStrumpets · 22/01/2026 14:42

That sounds beautful @FuzzyPuffling I love green glazes. Zellige (sp?) tiles are so lovely too, I really want them them in my bathroom but I'd need to have a cleaning lady included! I spend my time thinking of ways to make housework easier/cheaper. My top tips so far have been buying a robot vacuum cleaner and replacing our ancient potato peeler with one that actually works!

FurForksSake · 22/01/2026 14:45

I love my cleaning lady, she charges us ยฃ40 for kitchen and bathrooms and she hoovers through. Sheโ€™s not the most detailed but weekly one floors and things get done and I can then do the little bits of deep cleaning.

Orangesandlemons77 · 22/01/2026 15:05

Been at the hospital with my eldest DS, he was admitted yesterday via the GP. It's looking a bit like Crohn's. I'm hoping not. His dad has it and there can be a family connection.

Exhausted as didn't sleep but feeling all wired but tired. They did a CT scan at something like 1am, I think to rule out internal bleeding (?) At least they admitted him etc I suppose. You always hear about them not taking young people seriously.

Oh I'm really hoping that for a young person they don't have ongoing problems. I'm old and decrepit anyway

That sounds very good value. I have never had a cleaning lady. I think it's more embarrassment at our cluttered house than anything! We have had various gardeners over the years but the last one would get depressed and hardly do any work but we didn't dare sack him because of his MH. He used to pour his heart out to me when I took him a coffee. He blamed his parents for everything (sent to public school etc) Eventually he moved to Norfolk with his boyfriend and we just heaved a huge sigh of relief!

TeaAndStrumpets · 22/01/2026 15:25

@Orangesandlemons77 that sounds so scary! Hope he can get some treatment soon. Xx

I think they are letting him home which is good. They were going to do an MRI scan though and don't seem to be doing that anymore. Oh well hopefully at least he is better soon, maybe they can arrange one as an outpatient if needed. We'll see. Thanks for the message.

Another day mainly resting here. Awoke early in a panic heart racing, then was unable to get back to sleep.

Resulted in a sluggish day, feel asleep in the pm. Horrible weather here today too, grey and rainy. It's time for Spring now I think

Now watching some kind of 'car flipping' programme with DH and the DS's. Had a Thai lentil thing out of a packet for tea. Sometimes I microwave a sweet potato and have it on top of that. But today just on it's own.

Then I had one of the veggie cup a soups for lunch,

MEwithME I have these sometimes, I get them off Amazon. Merchant Gourmet or something. They just go in the microwave for 2 mins. I know what you mean my DS's like the same old things and it gets really boring.

Edited

Those packs are good, yes. I sometimes get them for myself. Still have to make two different things though!

Just about to haul myself to the kitchen for this evening's attempt. Sausage and potato waffles for DS!

Sorry about DS @Orangesandlemons77 . What a worry for you. Hope you have some answers soon and he's doing ok all things considered.

Sending lots of love @Orangesandlemons77 and I hope it's a good outcome for your DS.

FurForksSake · 22/01/2026 19:33

@MewithME I hope you have an air fryer to help, Iโ€™d be lost without mine. Dinner tonight in my house was pasta and a jar of sauce or soup from a can. Served with garlic bread and rolls.

TodayIsatrickyone · 22/01/2026 19:39

Oh no @Orangesandlemons77 what a worry for you. I do hope your DS is home soon and you can get some answers.

FurForksSake · 22/01/2026 19:50

@Orangesandlemons77 adding the good wishes, I hope itโ€™s something easily treatable.

I have a real phobia about doctors so I understand.

@Kitterkitkat hope you're OK. What will happen at the hospital?

I think with chronic illness we do develop avoidance of medical stuff don't we? I have a phobia of hospitals and usually for me a GP appointment always results in some sort of hospital referral so I like to avoid but I've been putting this off for a long time and my friend was going to kill me if I didn't ring. They want a blood test and earliest appointment they have is 5 weeks away!

Evening all. Absolute full on day. Finished late. Got a chippy tea. Now lying in bed watching traitors. Having awful palpitations.

My arm is hurting holding my phone up to type this now....PEM tomorrow here I come ๐Ÿ™„

Oh that sounds awful, I hope the palpitations eased off for you x

Kitchen is too tiny for gadgets. It's like a cupboard.. honestly. ๐Ÿ˜†

I'm sure it could be better organised...I need a new kitchen....and bathroom.and flat roof...and ... and...and.... Ah well. It's home.

Anyway, I have not had PEM too badly today considering I slept so badly yesterday and it was such an intense few days work wise again. I did have a nap at lunchtime which helped.

Just watched Traitors. Going to stick my weird glucosamine patches on my knees and go to sleep soon.

Sleep well all xx

Thanks. I have had a few again today but not as bad as yesterday. It's bloody carbs I think! I get it after eating most days but not usually as bad as that. Jacket spuds are not good or chippy teas but then they are good when I am knackered and can't manage to cook anything more complicated. Can't win. Silly illness.

I totally get this, stuck between a rock and a hard place with a lot of choices.

TeaAndStrumpets · 23/01/2026 07:58

Morning all!

Woke at 3 am, then on and off until 6. I have to take a medication an hour before breakfast once a month, then sit upright having 2 large glasses of water so it doesn't burn my oesophogus. I always feel tense for a while! I have to stay close to home those days, I need many many wees!

We have 2 house viewings tomorrow so we're going out 10 - 3. Thanks to DH the house is fairly clean and tidy, I just need to dust. DH believes dusting should be done with the brush on the vacuum cleaner, but I don't think it works very well. I have the huge yellow proper dusters and they are perfect.

We'll visit DD tomorrow and view the marvels of her new cleaning brush. She's nearly worn down one scrubbing attachment on the top of her huge range cooker and is impressed. Her DH is an enthusiastic but messy cook so the hob needed a lot of attention. Now it is pristine again with very little effort.

Oh the excitement mounts!

TeaAndStrumpets · 23/01/2026 08:14

@MewithME do you think it's an allergy? Potato is nightshade family, like tomatoes.

Orangesandlemons77 · 23/01/2026 09:01

I've got my son home with some antibiotics and an oddly blank discharge summary. Bit strange. Have give him some paracetamol and he's had something to eat.

Slept Ok considering, DH was up worrying though and think that has made me more anxious this morning. It can be catching can't it?

Anyway nothing much planned today except looking after DS and checking he is OK, and I might try some of these PTSD somatic exercises as well. Shaking out the body etc, progressive muscle relaxation. Might help with the stress

Hoping for a good day for all Flowers
