Thanks

Just succinct. I have always found right wingers appreciate linguistic efficiency.

Like Tommy and Farage?

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 13/01/2026 18:37

And Trump.

Can you even define ‘right wing’?

Sick of litter and mess & weeds everywhere - on beaches and streets if you are anxious or depressed get out there and sort it out the fresh air will do you good !

Both of my daughters in law were young children under Ceausescu and the tales they’ve told me of what family life was like are harrowing.

I absolutely believe it, and understand how awful it was.

But that experience doesn't per se qualify them as arbiters of whether a given dictatorship is or isn't a corruption or co-option of communism.

Yeah that would have worked so well for my self harming dd who couldn’t leave her room.

Theres degrees of depression and anxiety🙄

Whatisthisperihell · 13/01/2026 19:10

RW but very concerned about the environment and also would like more investment in education. Although RW so nit from tax, from scrapping the triple lock and reducing out of work benefits.

That wasn't the question OP asked.

But, while I'm here, have you ever been severely 'anxious or depressed' yourself? I doubt it, otherwise you'd realise not everyone struggling with their MH can physically leave the house. And even if they can, why should people with MH issues be the ones having to pick up after society? That's actually pretty offensive, you know.

climbintheback · 13/01/2026 19:19

No I haven’t - maybe cos I’m working hard - get out there we have a beautiful country that needs a bit of TLC - picked 3 bags of Loire up in the middle of nowhere yesterday - makes you feel good! Altruism isn’t dead!

Very very offensive.

That poster must have had a lovely easy life to think like she does.Imagine a widely recognised and often severe illness being dismissed like this.

Why indeed should mentally unwell people literally shovel shit for everyone else? Horrible comment.

TBF Austerity has led to a lot of what you complain about, certainly made it much worse.

Those who feel unable to leave their house, aren't the cause of the litter/dog mess we all see, so perhaps it would be better if the rest of society didn't litter in the first place?

LW. That sex is real and immutable, and that there is more nuance to the situation in the Middle East than simply unilaterally being pro-Palestine.

Mine exactly

ImWearingPantaloons · 13/01/2026 19:38

I’m as left as they come, but I believe we’re too soft and Lilly livered on criminals and prisoners should not be allowed any home comforts - you forfeit your ‘rights’ when you do something that ends you up in prison.

popcornandpotatoes · 13/01/2026 19:41

Cocomelon67 · 12/01/2026 22:28

Very lefty but don’t think it’s helping children who feel distressed in their bodies if you tell them they can change sex. Don’t think we keep women or children safe by allowing men into women’s spaces. Don’t think men should be allowed to compete in women’s sports. Outside of these caveats, I believe in letting adults live the life they want, if it doesn’t harm anyone else, including trans women.

Yes I think I agree with this. I am very left but left seems to be being hijacked by this pro trans, woman is an offensive word bullshit, which is such a shame. I'm not sure I agree with any other views that are considered generally 'right wing'

Papyrophile · 13/01/2026 20:02

Brilliant thread. I sit politically in the centre, but the change I would like to see is more generous unemployment benefits that replace some 2/3rds of the wage lost. Closely related to the number of months or years that the recipient has worked and paid taxes, and time limited. UNLESS, the unemployment was caused by disability. Lose your sight in an accident at work, and obviously, that person needs a lot of support for long enough to learn a whole new world.

CaptainSevenofNine · 13/01/2026 20:15

I think I’m LW. My most right wing opinion is that we need to be harder on crime. Especially for rape and sexual assaults. Ideally I’d like these men to be chemically castrated. I often say that crime is where my “right side shows”

awaynboilyurheid · 13/01/2026 20:28

Captain
Agree and I think that’s just right and not politically “ right”

ThePoshUns · 13/01/2026 20:57

This has been a really interesting thread to see where left and right agree.

Papyrophile · 13/01/2026 21:20

I do and don't agree on sexual crime. I was quite close to a situation where rape was alleged, after a hook up. A very young man suffered two years of worry and fear while the police just left him dangling on bail, but the so-called victim never even bothered to go back to the police to give her statement.

BrendaThePoodle · 13/01/2026 21:43

LW and I think that sexual predators, rapists, peadophiles can’t genuinely be rehabilitated and should be serving whole life orders as they’ll always remain a risk.

lljkk · 13/01/2026 21:57

Am definitely lefty. I'd say I'm communist at heart if only communism actually motivated people to do anything.

Am also surprised I can't find anyone saying this:
I am a fiscal conservative. I'd like borrowing to be much lower achieved by MUCH lower benefits payouts and other spending cut backs. Also am dismayed by the Nanny State in general and excess policy making and regulations that try to eliminate risk by making simple tasks so ridiculously complicated.

Definitely would like to see co-pay for most medical care.

JungleTrainBlues · 13/01/2026 23:21

CheddarCheeseAndCrispSandwich · 13/01/2026 07:14

At 61 and always unwaveringly left wing, for the first time in my life I’ll be voting conservative in future elections. This pains me…but I just cannot agree with so many of Labour’s policies anymore.

Immigration
Foreign policies
Sex v a gender (I’m a staunch GC woman)
Wes Bloody Streeting!
Benefits

To name a few.

Yep, me too. Staunch Labour all my life, and I'm furious that I'm being pushed to vote for the Tories, but I have no choice. There is no alternative. If we had a return to the Labour of old, who represented the working classes and weren't caught up in Gaza/identity politics I'd reconsider. But that's wishful thinking, the parties too far gone.

'No I haven’t - maybe cos I’m working hard'?? Grow up and get a clue. I find it ironic in the extreme that you're painting yourself as an altruist here.

Piggywaspushed · 14/01/2026 11:09

Just an observation... a lot of the left wingers on here really aren't presenting themselves as left wing. Having , for example, voted Labour since Blair probably suggests a centrist. Anyone who has ever even considered voting Conservative really can't describe themselves as left !
