How many TVs do you have?

Help settle a discussion dh and I are pondering please?! I think we have more TVs than the average household, he thinks we have the average amount 😂
How many do you have (with either freeview or sky or with streaming functions) and how many people live in your house?
I’ll come back and update in a bit, I’m just going out for a quick swim!!

sharkyroy · 10/01/2026 16:53

Just one. There are 3 adults and a 16 year old here.

mmmcoffeeandcake · 10/01/2026 17:00

Can I ask those who don't have a TV - do you never ever watch anything on a screen? Laptop/tablet/phone, YouTube videos/films/other?

So we don’t have tablets, and don’t watch any TV or films on laptops these days (post DC).

DP or I might occasionally watch a YouTube video on our phones about something we’re interested in (e.g. DP is learning a new instrument), but not when DC is around!

RandomUsernameHere · 10/01/2026 17:50

3 for 4 people. In main sitting room, cinema room and my and DH’s bedroom.

MoreHairyThanScary · 10/01/2026 17:51

We have 1 (5 including 3 teens) I’m just looking at renovating our family room and will get a second in there. Most of the time the kids watch Netflix on their devices

mrssunshinexxx · 10/01/2026 18:01

Two; one in lounge one in master bedroom

RampantIvy · 10/01/2026 18:09

Why are some people snobby about only having a small TV?
Our living room is quite large and if we only had a 22 inch screen I would have to move the settee into the middle of the room.

I remember reading on the Which? website the optimum size vs distance from the TV to get the best viewing experience.

Having crap eyesight doesn't help so I hope I don't get judged for having a 48" TV so that I can actually see what is happening.

SpongyNight · 10/01/2026 18:21

Six (two people - had more TVs when DC still at home)

Sitting room
Garden Room
Family Room
My office
DH office
Guest Bedroom

Loaena · 10/01/2026 18:29

One TV. 5 people.

bellocchild · 10/01/2026 19:04

We have six: household of 2 with visiting DC. One each in living room, dining room, kitchen. And one each in 3 bedrooms. All TVs also have built-in DVD players and can be switched to radio.

YYURYYUCICYYUR4ME · 10/01/2026 19:55

One - lounge, 65" - 2 people

Procrastinatrixx · 10/01/2026 20:07

1 for a family of 4; in the living room. Our kids are under 4, and unless one of us is ill, they get no TV on weekdays. We rarely watch free to air, just Netflix, Prime, iPlayer etc. I will not allow TV in bedrooms. That said, DH is glued to his phone so we’re hardly a screen free house.

When I grew up in the 90s however, we had 4, including in parents and brother’s bedrooms. So I can understand households who have held on to that pattern.

henlake7 · 10/01/2026 20:14

1 TV and 1 person (mostly for Prime and Netflix).
Oh, and an iPad that travels round the house with me!

NormasArse · 10/01/2026 20:17

We’ve only ever had one. Kids are grown up now, and it rarely gets switched on.

CurlyTop1980 · 10/01/2026 20:18

2 TV's.

We have one in the spare room and one in the lounge. Rarely use the spare room one as it's super old, and the remote is dodgy. We also have a family laptop, so we sometimes use it. Older teens all have iPads/laptops they have bought, so they tend to use these.

Family of 7.

Zov · 10/01/2026 20:23

Three.

One in the kitchen. (28".)

One in the lounge (47")

One in the bedroom. (32".)

We are detached, so no-one is disturbed by the TV in the bedroom.

TVs in bedrooms should be against the law in semi-detached homes - in the bedroom that adjoins someone else's bedroom. Not fair on people trying to sleep.

cariadlet · 10/01/2026 20:26

2 people. I tv in the lounge.

I sometimes take my laptop upstairs and watch tv in bed. DD used to do the same when she lived at home.

I agree. We used to rent a flat, and the next-door neighbour would have the TV on so loud throughout the night. Last year, we went to Rome and DH booked an Airbnb. It was very nice until the neighbours next door came back from work (I'm assuming) at 3 am. Whoever it was loves Italy's Got Talent, as we could hear the entire show playing as if we were watching all night from 3am till about 9am every night we were there. made me grateful we live in a detached house.

ThereIsATInWater · 10/01/2026 20:28

Technically 6 in the house.

But 4 in use.
1 in front room. Shared.
1 in dining room / DH cave. He uses this one .
1 in our bedroom, "mine"
1 in DS room, his.

DD is at uni but isn't fussed by a TV in her room, so that's around but not used, and DS just bought a new something, so we have another "spare"

cariadlet · 10/01/2026 20:29

I'm not sure whether I'm more surprised by how many tvs some people have or by how posh some of these houses sound (judging by the number of rooms and what some of them are called).

S72 · 10/01/2026 20:31

2 adults, 1 teen, 1 TV

cupfinalchaos · 10/01/2026 20:34

7 but one in kitchen pops up we don’t use.

Olive567 · 10/01/2026 20:49

Have not bothered getting a TV since moving a few months ago. I don't use laptop or phone for player/ films either. I do listen to a lot of radio / audio though.
I don't like to have a lounge dominated by a TV. If i do decide i want one in the future I will consider a projector.
