How are you spending New Years Day?

It’s a quiet chilled day in our house. I’m still in my pj’s having a cuddle with my 5 month old granddaughter who stayed over last night while DS and DIL went out.
DD21 was out last night and stayed with friends, she text this morning to say she’ll be home soon so at least I know she’s ok.
DD19 is getting ready for work, DH is eating bacon sandwiches and youngest DD is in her room on the phone to her best friend.
I’m thinking of taking the tree and decs down today as I’m back at work tomorrow, will take DGD home around tea time then it’ll be a
shower and a night in front of the tv with DH.
What are you all doing today?

Cooking a roast while ds14 & ds10 are playing online with their friends. Nice chilled day.

Whosthetabbynow · 01/01/2026 13:40

Still in my nightie watching Jaws. It’s my birthday so I’ll do what I fancy x

Musicaltheatremum · 01/01/2026 13:41

@CantThinkOfAnotherUsernaneim just about to eat a bacon sandwich too 😁. Hangover cure. We aren't bad but don't usually drink more than one glass of wine these days.

BiddyPopthe2nd · 01/01/2026 13:48

I am just getting organised to go walk the beach while it’s fine and dry and bright. We’ve done some cleaning/re-organising this morning but all taking a slow start. And no concrete plans for the rest of the day.

Eggsley · 01/01/2026 13:50

Quiet and chilled here too. We had friends over last night and didn’t get to bed until 2am. I’ve made lunch for the DC but I don’t really intend to move from the sofa this afternoon. I’m not hungover as I don’t drink much, but I am quite tired. A late night wipes me out these days! I’m under the dog at the moment so that’s as good an excuse as any to do nothing.

DS(14) had friends over until about 1am and one stayed over. He went home about 10.30am and DS has only surfaced for food. I think he’ll be in bed all day, they were up very late.

DS(9) is gaming, still in his pj’s. He was up until 2am as well, so he’s tired.

Dog is exhausted from the excitement of a house full of people and a late night.

I’m back to work on the 5th so decorations will be coming down tomorrow and Saturday so that we can chill on Sunday as well.

DH and I have got lots of tv to catch up on over the next few days.

MeouwKing · 01/01/2026 13:52

Watching 'orse racing

DanFmDorking · 01/01/2026 13:53

May I invite you to try the Christmas Puzzle
Good Luck - Let me know how you get on Xmas Smile

ThereIsATInWater · 01/01/2026 13:55

Lazing in a bath reading my phone.
DH watching darts downstairs , then football later I believe.
DS in his room, appearing periodically for food.

Taken christmas stuff down, hoovered and put a wash on this morning.

Debating what to do for dinner. Maybe just tomato pasta.

TheFairyCaravan · 01/01/2026 14:00

I’m currently lying on the sofa, under a heated blanket, watching Call the Midwife Christmas special. I’ve come down with the dreaded lurgy and feel absolutely dreadful, although I’ve completely lost my voice so DH is very happy.

Mikart · 01/01/2026 14:03

6 mile walk at 10am. Now prepping a roast for about 5pm. Halfway through first book of the year. Traitors tonight with roulade.

laxydash · 01/01/2026 14:08

We had a long lie followed by porridge and baked pears for breakfast, going to family for NYD dinner later this afternoon and will be there until late I expect. I will head out for a walk before getting ready.

Gatekeeper · 01/01/2026 14:10

House full of lurgy here so mostly coughing and grumbling! I am having a glass of tawny port to soothe the throat and fannying about on Mumsnet. Roast lamb later and an early night.

IfyouStealMySunshine · 01/01/2026 14:14

Had bacon toasties after going out last night.
Had a bath and done some good skin care.
Have watched celebrity gladiators and will do some crafts with dd then roast dinner with all kids and partners later on this afternoon.
Maybe even have a little snooze.
Weathers awful so no guilt about it being an indoor day.

murasaki · 01/01/2026 14:15

Watching the darts, then DP's football team. Will strip the bed and put a wash on, DP is making venison stew for dinner.

DisappointedD · 01/01/2026 14:16

We did a walk on the Moors this morning, set off around 9ish to avoid the crowds (was getting busy as we left), had a hot drink in the pub at the end of the walk before driving back.

All showered now and about to go out for lunch. World buffet, really looking forward to it as starving now.

Ihateboris · 01/01/2026 14:17

Mine too. Dismal day to have a birthday, especially in Scotland.

Lemondessert · 01/01/2026 14:18

I had a terrible nights sleep so it’s been a slow start. Just been for a chilly dog walk with dc in tow. Making Christmas dinner tonight. Going to have a nap first!

Zippedydodah · 01/01/2026 14:24

Took the dogs out for an hour’s walk at sunrise, a bit frosty and a bitterly cold wind but lots of birdsong and saw lots of skylarks. Went along the bridleway and across the fields. It was quite pleasant out of the wind.
Came back and had toast and coffee, cooked beef stroganoff for dinner, tidied out the cupboard that has far too many containers, binned a dozen lids that didn’t have bottoms (why?), matched up the remaining ones and numbered lids to bottoms and it’s much tidier. I might tackle another cupboard tomorrow.
The log burner’s lit, it’s nice and warm and I’m enjoying a cup of tea. Another dog walk later then that’s it. There’s an M&S Yule log in the fridge 😋

MoreIcedLattePlease · 01/01/2026 14:30

We were supposed to be going for a lovely walk at a local NT property, but two late nights in a row and a long swim yesterday have knocked me out and made me sore, so we’re just at home. DS1 can take Ddog out later instead.

DH is painting the en-suite, and I am currently removing DD’s (home done) gel nails before she’s back to school on Monday. We’re eating leftovers for the last time, watching Stranger Things and then Traitors this evening - I’m really looking forward to it!

House is already clean as DS1 had a party two nights ago and the deal was he had to do a thorough clean-up after.

DH is working from home tomorrow and I have marking to do, so I’ll get that done tomorrow too.

I don’t want to go back to work next week!

fiveminutestochill · 01/01/2026 14:31

Also quiet day here - just had roast beef for lunch, I'm just putting our 10m old down for his nap then I might have a bath and start the book I got for Christmas while DH plays with the 4yo.

GameOfJones · 01/01/2026 14:37

A quiet day for us too. I was up early as I drank more alcohol than I usually would last night and therefore couldn't sleep so I just decided to get up at 6am and have a coffee and some water. Everyone else got up around 10am by which time I'd gone and posted three parcels off at the InPost lockers and tidied up downstairs.

We've had a fry up for brunch and I'm about to start making roast lamb for dinner.

DH is now playing a board game with DD2, DD1 is watching Wild London and I've had a long bath and am now messing about on my phone and having a cup of tea.

Really looking forward to Traitors tonight and then I'll be straight to bed as back to work tomorrow.

lissie123 · 01/01/2026 14:38

Currently dozing under a blanket in front of the fire with DH watching tv. It’s been a night/day. Didn’t get to sleep til 3.30 am this morning. Hanging on with my nails at the moment. Had a
dinner party last night with friends and they all left at 2 am but my Dd (young adult) had friends round too and they partied hard. Most stayed overnight and whilst they tidied up brought their own drinks snacks sorted bed arrangements etc listening to them chatting into the early hours of the morning was very funny.,My dd was trying to make sure they got into the right beds/rooms and it was like herding cats/ puppies by all accounts. 🤣. Really enjoyed the evening.

IHateEmptyPockets · 01/01/2026 14:39

Happy New Year all - very lazy day here, early morning dog walk, then I’ve been reading, bumming around on MN and doing a jigsaw. Oh and bravely finishing off the last of the pate and chocolate… Grin
