I quite like the look of them. Might go for it next year.

Definitely not. Google it. I think this year it was new, by next Christmas it'll be a lot more mainstream.

I just googled it, and your post was the only thing that popped up.

Definite no from me. I find these 'trends' aimed at making people buy new decorations every year and bit sickening. But at least they normally look good. This is just ugly.

limetrees32 · 27/12/2025 12:59

It's not that bad.
Maybe looks better in the flesh
But I think
"If not done extremely well, with the correct opacity of gauze and careful layering it will look messy,"
must be true.

Is it like the angel hair you used to get in the 70s

This - my nan used to use this. Lovely with the old incandescent lights twinkling through. Spun glass threads - can’t imagine why it’s not used anymore…

not in my house. I might do a spiders web effect but NEVER EVER like that

MissDoubleU · 27/12/2025 13:01

No, I have no interest in putting a condom on the Christmas tree.

bilbodog · 27/12/2025 13:02

This is not new - used to use angel hair on trees in the 70s. However it was made from spun fibre glass and was not very safe. I would imagine anything net-like wiuld also be a fire hazzard along with lights.

FigTreeInEurope · 27/12/2025 13:03

Why have you put a condom on your Christmas tree?

Not even for the socially-responsible, public safety ad SAFE SEX CHRISTMAS messaging? With little baubles that say SANTA SAYS WITHDRAWAL ISN’T A CONTRACEPTIVE METHOD?

Is this something that people try to make a ‘thing’, like having your tree upside down?

It's bad enviromentally - all that plastic and then when people put their trees put complete with lametta birds got caught in it and died. A bit like the fake cobwebs on bushes for Halloween.

CheddarCheeseAndCrispSandwich · 27/12/2025 13:08

Hard no from me! 😫🤯

Jellycatspyjamas · 27/12/2025 12:31

It’s one of those SM trends designed to part you from your money, and doesn’t even look good. What a waste.

I don't see how? It'd cost about a fiver to buy net or muslin to cover a tree?

@CaptainMyCaptain quite possible to use cotton muslin.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 27/12/2025 12:35

I suppose if it's a dead tree (one that's been cut off its roots) and shedding needles all the time it's in the house, the netting will catch the needles so they don't get all over the carpet.

That's about the only positive I can think of.

Very good point. When xmas is over, tie the muslin at the bottom and you can carry it out without extra shedding!

OP posts:
CautiousLurker2 · 27/12/2025 13:12

Surely the netting is a fire risk?

Aside from it looking bloody bizarre, it would be a no from me.

You and I must have different Google.

As if a full face veil doesn't look weird enough at a wedding.

Anxietybummer · 27/12/2025 13:13

It’s a Halloween tree isn’t it? Hate it.

Blarn · 27/12/2025 13:13

I really try not to be one of those, 'it's different so I hate it' people, but that tree just looks peculiar.

If you want lights twinkling off different surfaces, how about lametta?

I might go for a whole tree wardrobe next year. Will start with a cute baby bonnet on top for when we first bring it home. A 'you're not wearing that!' outfit for a few days in. A bridal veil for its big day. Something polyester as it starts to get past its best, then the shroud for the 5th of January to mark its final journey.

Love it!!

BunnyLake · 27/12/2025 12:51

Or cultural appreciation?

But xmas trees themselves are German so the whole thing is cultural appropriation.

This thread is turning out a lot more interesting than I expected!

I’m into it, OP. I’ve seen other trees done similar and I like the faint haunted gothic vibe it can give!

I also like the one I’ve seen on an old Pinterest image that was draped in what looks like old moss and raindrop shaped glass baubles.

My cats would eat lametta. The plonkers used to try to chew the flocking off an artificial tree I had one year. Not the brightest.

I'm not saying I love it either, but I don't like it any less than I like having an xmas tree in the first place either.

Me too. My google search came up with no other examples, not even Stacy Solomon’s who has apparently done one.

Angel hair versions did come up though.

I could understand the need for it if you have a cat; otherwise... 😟

My cats would just see the veil as an extra challenge! 😄

That does sound nice. I tried to find insect baubles this year because I have a DC very into entomology but didn't manage it.
