I quite like the look of them. Might go for it next year.

Is it like the angel hair you used to get in the 70s

OriginalUsername2 · 27/12/2025 12:34

You may now kiss the tree

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 27/12/2025 12:35

I suppose if it's a dead tree (one that's been cut off its roots) and shedding needles all the time it's in the house, the netting will catch the needles so they don't get all over the carpet.

That's about the only positive I can think of.

I think it looks quite nice but I'd be concerned about the fire hazard.

Overthebow · 27/12/2025 12:36

It looks like someone has stuck a plastic bag over the tree.

Is that you, Miss Havisham?

Definitely a Haversham vibe!

Hahahaha!

@FlashingFairyLight I do think you have a point. But I quite like the lights twinkling through the net.

I'm really not a fan of Christmas trees but have one for the children. But did wonder about trying something new and less traditional.

Lametta would be more effective

Gettingbysomehow · 27/12/2025 12:42

I think it looks really ghostly and fun.

ExquisiteDressing · 27/12/2025 12:43

I'm obviously out of touch as I've never heard of this but it's a NO from me.

Beat me to it, first thing I thought 😁

Definitely not. Google it. I think this year it was new, by next Christmas it'll be a lot more mainstream.

It’s not at all new - its roots are Ukrainian and decorating a tree with spiders webs brings good luck and fortune. Depending on your perspective the attempts over the last few years to make it a ‘trend’ are either in support of Ukraine or cultural appropriation :)

Or cultural appreciation?

Oh yes, but I wrapped that up in support for Ukraine :)

I don’t think either are why the OP tried it though!

Whitetopaz1 · 27/12/2025 12:52

I saw on instagram that Stacey Dooley has one of these (she has several more equally flamboyant trees). I don’t hate it but won’t be following the trend.

No it won't...

TheMoanerLisa · 27/12/2025 12:53

I saw a picture of one (Stacey Dooley's, I think). I thought it looked bloody terrible and I just can't work out why on earth you would want to do it.

5128gap · 27/12/2025 12:54

I might go for a whole tree wardrobe next year. Will start with a cute baby bonnet on top for when we first bring it home. A 'you're not wearing that!' outfit for a few days in. A bridal veil for its big day. Something polyester as it starts to get past its best, then the shroud for the 5th of January to mark its final journey.

You could say any Christmas tree is cultural appropriation then as the idea was brought from Germany. I hope you never eat pasta or curry.

JacknDiane · 27/12/2025 12:55

That looks awful 😖

3luckystars · 27/12/2025 12:55

Awful!! It looks like cling film, or those horrendous rain covers on prams. I hate it.

Why does a Christmas tree need to be veiled? Dopes.

I had a twig tree this year. So easy to deal with and no mess.

As I live in Italy I feel safe enough eating pasta ;)
