Currently dog, DH, DS1 and DS2 are all sleeping. I'm sat with a quiet cuppa in my dressing gown in the living room. Tree lights on.

Today we will make mince pies (which will likely be inedible as I've not mastered gluten free pastry).

There's also a village "Santa run" (walk, ride) this morning and mince pies, Mulled wine and Santa at the village pond this afternoon. Whether or not we will make it to both remains to be seen.

About to head off to the gym. MIL is bemused at how i have time to go to the gym on Christmas Eve. I've lost 7 stone in 18 months and I am enjoying exercise for the first time in my life so I am ignoring her.

Ham and turkey are in the oven ready and timed to finish just after I get back from the gym.

MIL is also expressing horror that I don't parboil my parsnips. She's mad, they'll go soggy if I do that.

Will prep veg for tomorrow after the gym and assemble the pavlova for dessert (made the base at the weekend).

Then need to make the mackerel pate for starter tomorrow and then head off to pick up our international student guest we are hosting for Christmas. She's a friend of our DS and is 4,000 miles from home and was planning to spend Christmas alone in a student house. I'm pleased we've invited her but also slightly nervous because I don't know her.

Right, best gather my kit and go sweat some stress off!

7 stone off is amazing! Enjoy the gym x

All still in bed at the moment, but when we do get ourselves into gear - DP will take his 2 off to visit grandparents and family that they wont see over xmas.

Me and DS stay at home and we'll make the puddings for tomorrow and get various bits out of the freezer ready for prepping later tonight/first thing tomorrow.

I'll then do the last little bit of housework, then it's xmas films, possibly a walk and then home for take away

Doing a long slow get up. One kid awake and watching you tube videos, one still asleep.

Later might take the kids to the park or do some gardening if they don’t want to go.

I have a raspberry cheesecake to make today for tomorrow but other than that it’s just like any other weekend day with the kids, trying to get though the day without too many fights or meltdowns.

I am alone at Christmas and not feeling physically very well because of an ongoing problem. My partner has misinterpreted this as something else and stormed off taking all his food with him and posting my door key and disabled badge through the letter box as a way of saying 'don't contact me again'.
My day will be spent relaxing in peace reading a Christmas book, watching the birds and squirrels outside and reflecting on the past year that I've had and how I can make next year a better one..
A happy New Year to you all, Merry Christmas and don't get too tired and stressed out with all of the food preparation - this is your Christmas holiday as well - make some time for yourself to actually enjoy it. xxxx

He sounds mean, OP. I hope you are okay on your own and wishing you a peaceful Christmas x

Bluelac35 · 24/12/2025 08:28

We’re having a chilled morning, I’m still in bed with dd3 watching Christmas film and drinking tea. DS’s are downstairs having some switch time. Later we will make mince pies ready for Santa, and finish packing as going to stay with family Christmas morning. A sunny day here so we’ll go for a walk on the beach later then home for Christmas movie before bed!

Greatidea · 24/12/2025 08:32

Thanks for your message and a Merry Christmas to you,

Flowertopz · 24/12/2025 08:34

I'm working started at half 5 be here until 2pm then home to open a bottle of fizz and chill out . Working again in the morning so cant drink to much

23doorsdown · 24/12/2025 08:35

I was awake at 5:30 despite falling asleep after 1am. Got up at 6am to do the North Pole breakfast for the dc, now back in bed!

bignewprinz · 24/12/2025 08:39

I've been up, put a beef stew on, now I'm back in bed drinking coffee. 6 adults for lunch today. I don't have an oven in my ramshackle house, so catering with a slow cooker, an air fryer and a hob! But otherwise, today will be games, movies and tonight once the kids are in bed - wrapping - which I always leave until the 11th hour every year!

greengreyblue · 24/12/2025 08:40

Sitting in bed with an espresso, dog asleep at the foot of the bed. DH gone to work. DD25 making her way home by train , DD21 at her BF house so I’m just enjoying a bit of peace. Later will make Christmas Day pudding to take to family tomorrow and then a nice dinner for us all tonight.

CantThinkOfAnotherUsernane · 24/12/2025 08:47

I’ve been up since 5, so far me and dd10 have braved Asda it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be.
DH is in bed after a night shift last night, eldest DD is awake and going to town for last minute bits and DD18 is asleep.
Planning a chilled out day today, I need to mop my kitchen floor and hoover the stairs when DH is up, then he’s going to collect MIL as she’s staying with us for a few days over Christmas.
While he’s gone I’ll sort the Christmas Eve boxes, have a long scrubby shower followed by a face mask, a Chinese takeaway and some wine.
Merry Christmas everyone

RampantIvy · 24/12/2025 08:51

DD will do some more dissertation work while I do some prep for tomorrow's meal. DH will run the vacuum round, then I will drive to the station in the next town in the evening to pick up DD's friend who is staying with us for Christmas as the local trains will be finishing early today.

So, no mad rush to do anything.

Tcateh · 24/12/2025 09:13

Congratulating myself yesterday for last trip outside the house for a couple of days.
This morning just realised not enough milk or bread in.
I'm thinking garage for these.

Tcateh · 24/12/2025 09:14

Oh forgot to add I've put the heating on low and it's staying on ALL day.
My Christmas gift to me 😁

ViciousCurrentBun · 24/12/2025 09:20

Only DH and I awake so far, we had a great day yesterday had a Christmas dinner as SIL flew over from Spain. Played Articulate and got a bit tipsy. Today DH and I are off out for a walk with MIL round the local park, DS and his GF are popping to local shops to buy booze to take to her parents late afternoon tomorrow . I am also dropping in some homemade cake to a friend who requested something specific, she has a lot of dietary issues as has chronic health conditions. Will all peel the veg this evening and then having a late buffet supper, bought a gingerbread house kit for DS and his GF to make together. It’s been lovely seeing him and her so happy.

DinoLil · 24/12/2025 09:23

I had my Christmas lunch delivered at 8.30am. Everything in little foil containers, ready to pop in the oven and heat up tomorrow.

Dog and I are catching up with the soaps atm. She has her Christmas pyjamas on, I'm actually dressed for a change!

Debating whether to have a mince pie for breakfast.

This is about as festive as I can get this year. Doesn't even feel any different to a normal weekday.

ApolloandDaphne · 24/12/2025 09:28

Nothing in my actual house because we aren't there. We are with DD1 and her partner. DD2 and her partner plus my DM are also here. We are all sitting around drinking tea in our jammies. Not much to do today other than make the puddings. It's all very chilled.

Imperfectpolly · 24/12/2025 09:30

I love having a coffee in the dark with only the Christmas lights on. I got up early and did this.

I'm now working at the kitchen island to keep an eye on the ham cooking. It should be ready by 12 and I'm due to finish work at the same time.

We still have to buy a few bits (alcohol, coal) so will go to the supermarket at lunch time. These were meant to be bought in the last few days but we got side tracked with 2 funerals to attend, one very unexpected and tragic.

Dc are following Santa on flight radar, Dh has gone to the gym.

We will visit in laws this afternoon as I won't make it up there tomorrow. Maybe attend mass with them at 6.

Will watch something funny this evening loke Mrs doubtfire.

Jowak1 · 24/12/2025 09:36

I’m still in bed having my first cuppa and hubby is snoring next to me having a lie in after finishing work yesterday. Both teens still in their rooms my daughter currently watching Harry Potter. Everything is wrapped and ready and we are going to my parents house for Christmas dinner tomorrow so so am very lucky I don't have to do the cooking. Need to nip to home bargains for a few more stocking fillers and daughter would like a big tub of chocolates do the house when people pop over. ( probably more for her to nibble on but I thought it was a nice idea.
Happy Christmas 🎄 everyone x

MferMonsterSearchingForRedemption · 24/12/2025 09:39

Everyone else is still asleep.

The Turkey is defrosting well in the fridge. The kitchen is an utter disaster zone with presents and food everywhere.

I am picking up my son, DIL and 4 year old grandson in a couple of hours as they are staying for a couple of nights. I'll take them to Aldi to get a few extra bits.

We will have hot chocolate later with an Xmas film. DH has to cook a lasagne and we are having a Chinese takeaway tonight. My mum and her partner will also come over this afternoon. Snowballs before bed. Grandson will no doubt have us all up at 6.00am on Xmas Day.

Happy Christmas everyone.

61here · 24/12/2025 09:52

Just about to get dressed as off to my daughters for lunch as we're going to my son's tomorrow. Im very lucky with an amazing family!! Will cook a gammon when we get back but everything else is fine! Merry Christmas!!

CurlewKate · 24/12/2025 10:03

I’ve just discovered that making crackers is harder than I thought it was…..

BearSoFair · 24/12/2025 10:36

I'm just back from a quick Boots run to top up on Lemsip and Vicks. DH is snotting about upstairs but has managed to get up before noon today which is a vast improvement from the weekend (not being useless to get out of helping for xmas, he really has been unwell!)

DS1 is giving DS2 a pre-Christmas haircut - he's a barber so safe hands, we haven't just let them loose with the scissors!
DD is a couple of days behind DH illness wise and is awake but in bed.
