Currently dog, DH, DS1 and DS2 are all sleeping. I'm sat with a quiet cuppa in my dressing gown in the living room. Tree lights on.

Today we will make mince pies (which will likely be inedible as I've not mastered gluten free pastry).

There's also a village "Santa run" (walk, ride) this morning and mince pies, Mulled wine and Santa at the village pond this afternoon. Whether or not we will make it to both remains to be seen.

Been awake since 5:30 here (thank you perimenopause). Hubby has made coffee and is now in the shower. Both children are still asleep. I have to collect the meat from the butchers, and find some rolls somewhere as I forgot them when food shopping. I'm going to cook the gammon this afternoon before going to the local carols in the high street this evening.
Christmas movie this evening with the fire on hopefully.

Cleo65 · 24/12/2025 07:44

Spiked a UTI last night, not slept a single second all night - now waiting for GP surgery to open. There's ALWAYS a ducking drama around Christmas - I'm opting out next/future year/s. I'm done.

Taytocrisps · 24/12/2025 07:45

I'm in bed. Having a nice rest. DD's boyfriend is here. He and DD exchanged presents last night. We had dinner together and then they joined in rhe '12 pubs of Christmas'. Hopefully they didn't do all 12 pubs. The boyfriend is heading home around midday.

Technically, I'm working today, but only until 12. I"ll just be checking my e-mails really.

A few small jobs to do aroud the house but nothing too major - wash towels, clear off the dining table, chuck all the paper and cardboard mountain of recycling which is piled up in the utility room, hoover and mop the utility room and kitchen floors etc.

Might go for lunch with DD.

Going to the pub this evening with DD, my brother and some of his family.

Think I'll get up shortly (coffee is calling) and read back over your replies.

What pastry recipes have you tried so far?? Becky excells pastry recipe is really nice for gf. Best served warm as most gf stuff is and remember to get them out the baking tray asap once cooked or they stick and the pastry crumbles. But they really are very nice.

I’m about to jump in the shower before we embark on a round trip of about seven hours to pick up my mum 😬

TangoWhiskeyAlphaTango123 · 24/12/2025 07:50

Only one awake, two young adult DC arrived home on the 23rd and won't be awake this side of lunch knowing them. All the food is bought and gifts wrapped. We are off into town later to light a candle at the Abbey later for those we are missing this year then meeting my DP for drinks and food. My Mum is driving over late afternoon to spend the next 3 days with us. Just a quiet few days spent eating and laughing and chilling with my favourite people.

BG2015 · 24/12/2025 07:53

I’m still in bed. DP has just got up to take DS (22) to work as he went out last night and probably isn’t safe to drive. DP will pick up fresh rolls for on his way back.

Need to boil and bake the ham, other food prep as we have my parents and other son coming over later for food.

Iknowdino · 24/12/2025 07:55

Dh is up and working from home til lunch time. Dds are still asleep but they're up at 8. They were bouncing the walls last night, so excited. So either today they will continue to bounce the walls or they will crash and fall out 🤣 hoping to get cleaned up and veg prepped this morning and out for a walk this afternoon. This evening we are off to pil house for tea and a Christmas film. Then home to bed to wait for Santa! Love Christmas eve. Also will make some nice pies at some point, already made the pastry and have a jar of mincemeat, so an easy task.

dinesaurrawr · 24/12/2025 07:56

All these dh’s that are already up! I’ve just had to drag mine out of bed so I can go to the toilet 😆 can’t leave the toddlers alone downstairs !

Greatidea · 24/12/2025 07:31

I am alone at Christmas and not feeling physically very well because of an ongoing problem. My partner has misinterpreted this as something else and stormed off taking all his food with him and posting my door key and disabled badge through the letter box as a way of saying 'don't contact me again'.
My day will be spent relaxing in peace reading a Christmas book, watching the birds and squirrels outside and reflecting on the past year that I've had and how I can make next year a better one..
A happy New Year to you all, Merry Christmas and don't get too tired and stressed out with all of the food preparation - this is your Christmas holiday as well - make some time for yourself to actually enjoy it. xxxx

Im sorry this happened to you. It sounds like you have a very peaceful day planned though.

Greatidea · 24/12/2025 07:57

Thankyou.

GrannyOog · 24/12/2025 07:59

Going bowling with teens and then finding a nice pub for lunch.

LashesZ · 24/12/2025 07:59

DP is working half day. DD7 and DS2 are watching tv having had a good breakfast. Pleased to have sacked off the elf back to the North Pole for another year. Probably go for a crisp walk when DP is home, collect my bits from the bakery en route and come back to our M&S picky bits and a film. Smile

thenewaveragebear1983 · 24/12/2025 07:59

I’m up drinking coffee with the dog and working up the enthusiasm to take her out. Watching who killed Jon benet Ramsey on Netflix which isn’t the most festive really is it?

today we are doing a combination of getting the house ready for guests, food prep, and we will go out for a walk somewhere later. Dh and I have loosely discussed going for a run this morning but I might swerve that, he will still go. We will take the dog and kids out later for a walk and hopefully find a pub or somewhere for a hot chocolate. Then we have carols this evening at 4.30, both sets of parents joining us for mulled wine and mince pies and then we will probably all watch a Christmas movie and try and get the dc to bed at a reasonable time.

MarmaladeSandwich7 · 24/12/2025 08:02

Merry Christmas Eve! Still got lots to do but DH is being very good at calming me down. Trying to sort the logistics of delivering Christmas lunch for 3 to my folks house. DH is being dispatched to Asda to buy more food boxes, although actually he needs to go anyway for a click & collect. I’m going to sit with DM this morning as DF has a hospital appointment & she’s not yet used to their live in carer. Possibly picking up a Christmas pud on my way as I only bought a small one. We have a big turkey crown though. Off to work straight from my folks to do a 4 hour shift, then I’m collecting a necklace & trying on a ring which I might buy as well if it fits. DH will put the cards up, clean the loo, mop the kitchen floor, then all 3 of us are prepping the veg. I missed out on 5p spuds from Aldi last night but on my previous visit managed to get a red cabbage, parsnips, carrots, sprouts & spuds for 5p each. DD17 is getting Maccies for tea whilst DH & I go to the chippy. I really fancy cheesy chips. DH & I always watch Love Actually on Christmas Eve & I sometimes watch Carols from Kings. Hope everyone has a good day & warmest wishes to all those poorly or with poorly family/pets 💐💐💐

DemonsandMosquitoes · 24/12/2025 08:03

Still in bed, DH has brought me a coffee then he is working from home today. DS1 went out on a ‘12 pubs of Xmas pub crawl’ last night and didn’t return so need to check he’s alive somewhere at some point. DS2 is revising and then has work this evening. Some washing and ironing for me, make a trifle, hoover round and probably some Xmas telly. I’ve lost two stones this year so making great efforts to avoid the tubs of chocolate and mince pies!

SleeplessInWherever · 24/12/2025 08:03

It’s my birthday today, first one in 36 years I’ve not been able to see my mum on. So that’s a bit odd!

Currently sat grabbing some peace and quiet before my son gets back up. He’s been the whiniest child the last few days, woke up at 4am and is now back asleep.

Just enjoying some silence before our crazy day starts!

swapsicles · 24/12/2025 08:04

Currently sat with a coffee and watching my new fish in my fish tank.
Then a tidy up and shower before I head out to the panto as a volunteer for most of the day, I'll probably watch a lot of it 😁.
Then back home to load up the car and head off to my parents for a couple of days

Bramble88 · 24/12/2025 08:05

in bed with Dd 6 watching the snowman and dd 0 is snoozing away. Looking forward to baking cookies later snd the christmas eve visits.

CocoQueen2024 · 24/12/2025 08:06

It's 4pm where I am and 37 degrees outside. So I am curled up on the Sofa with a chilled glass of white wine and watching Barbie on TV.

I dont have kids, just a DH and a dog and cat. So it's a quiet Christmas for us.

Zippedydodah · 24/12/2025 08:08

Having been awake for several hours in the middle of the night I am having a coffee in bed before taking the dogs out.
We’re having a very quiet Christmas so nothing happening today except usual housework, I’m all ready for tomorrow.
All’s peaceful here.

GrannyTeapot · 24/12/2025 08:10

The children are laughing downstairs, I’m having a cup of tea in bed. It’s going to be a really chilled out day today, a walk on the beach, long baths for everyone, and church this evening.
Oh - and we will have the first of our mince pies, yum!

Wishihadanalgorithm · 24/12/2025 08:11

I’m sat in my dressing gown having a coffee before I get dressed and go out and do the last bits.

DP has brought the emergency chairs and spare table down so DC can dress the tables before this afternoon when family joins us.

There are 13 for dinner tonight so DP will get on with cooking whilst I’m out. I’ve then got to finish cleaning and then we are ready!

Only we aren’t, as I’ve still got presents to wrap!

petitpasta · 24/12/2025 08:14

About to head off to the gym. MIL is bemused at how i have time to go to the gym on Christmas Eve. I've lost 7 stone in 18 months and I am enjoying exercise for the first time in my life so I am ignoring her.

Ham and turkey are in the oven ready and timed to finish just after I get back from the gym.

MIL is also expressing horror that I don't parboil my parsnips. She's mad, they'll go soggy if I do that.

Will prep veg for tomorrow after the gym and assemble the pavlova for dessert (made the base at the weekend).

Then need to make the mackerel pate for starter tomorrow and then head off to pick up our international student guest we are hosting for Christmas. She's a friend of our DS and is 4,000 miles from home and was planning to spend Christmas alone in a student house. I'm pleased we've invited her but also slightly nervous because I don't know her.

Right, best gather my kit and go sweat some stress off!

Lulu1919 · 24/12/2025 08:19

On the sofa
Crumpets just out of toaster ...topped with butter and cinnamon
Thinking about what I need to do today
Nothing major..veg prep etc
