Currently dog, DH, DS1 and DS2 are all sleeping. I'm sat with a quiet cuppa in my dressing gown in the living room. Tree lights on.

Today we will make mince pies (which will likely be inedible as I've not mastered gluten free pastry).

There's also a village "Santa run" (walk, ride) this morning and mince pies, Mulled wine and Santa at the village pond this afternoon. Whether or not we will make it to both remains to be seen.

Just got up. Boys are still in bed as is OH and I'm enjoying a quiet cup of coffee 🙂
We're having our Christmas dinner today so just need to prep veg, pigs in blankets and stuffing. (Cooked meat last night). Eldest has asked if we can watch the new superman film later (he's seen it twice at the cinema with friends lol). So will do that later and crack open some bubbly.

EleanorReally · 24/12/2025 07:18

have the morning to tidy up and then off to collect dm and go to ds for a meal

3flyingducksarrive · 24/12/2025 07:18

DH and I are making vegan croissants including making vegan butter. It's a Xmas miracle that we have not had a screaming argument over following the recipe and all the precise folding needed.

I’ve been awake since 5 thanks to my dh snoring! He’s moved downstairs to couch as I’m. Nightshift tonight . Can’t get back to sleep ! God knows what time I’ll get to bed in the morning as I want to see my boys open there presents

TeenToTwenties · 24/12/2025 07:21

Just rung a plumber due to leak in header tank to hot water tank dripping into floor below!!

Slight improvement on 12 or so years ago when we had water into our living room on Christmas day!

PurpleFlower1983 · 24/12/2025 07:22

DH is still asleep, I’m up with the kids who are sat infront of the tree listening to a new Tonie that was in their Christmas Eve box. We have a gingerbread house to make this morning then it’s 10 of us to the panto this afternoon before a meal in the local pub tonight.

We lost a beloved dog just before Christmas, I’m so sorry.

LemonTravels · 24/12/2025 07:22

I'm outside the U.K, in a country that doesn't celebrate Christmas, so it's always been on me to make Christmas magic for our kids. This year our eldest two children couldn't make it home because of uni lessons, so we have come to them. Having a cup of tea and toast now, eldest already left for uni, middle one getting up soon and then uni too. I will make the crackers today while they are out and then DH and I will go shopping for the veg and chicken, our kids never came to love turkey. Then around 2pm we will set off with our youngest to meet the other two at a New Year's Market in a decorated shopping center. Then home for Christmas Eve films.

AluckyEllie · 24/12/2025 07:23

I’m just back from doing ‘the big shop.’ Sitting in the car trying to get the energy to go in and start the day. Meat was picked up from the butcher yesterday. Need to pick my mum up from an hour away, tidy the whole house (working last two days), make Christmas gravy and profiteroles. The one and three year old will make this harder than it sounds!

mbonfield · 24/12/2025 07:25

I shall be preparing for the big day by sharpening the knives to carve the Turkey Breast getting other food to defrost. Its just the two of us this year.
We have done the big family get together in previous years and had to stay in an hotel, unfortunately there was and still is an irritable person!
We have also had the hotel experience over Christmas which was good the food was excellent but the landlord is in the wrong business but his partner made up for it singing and moving around the hotel as she was on skates!

Brendathebear · 24/12/2025 07:25

Im quietly scrolling. Everyone is asleep. We are hosting tonight and tomorrow so ill get up shortly and start prepping veg for tomorrow and bake the deserts.

Dh will sort out dinner tonight. We will eat this evening then all head to the pub. I need to clean my bathrooms before guests arrive, I dislike cleaning bathrooms.

I will go on a nice dog walk in today at some point. Children are all teenagers so do not need looking after.

Libre2 · 24/12/2025 07:25

Off for a blood test at 9. Am going to walk. It’s 45 minutes but looking forward to the peace. Then work. DS is working (holiday job) and we have DH’s aunt with us for a week. Will finish wrapping at some point. Church this evening for Carol service. DH and I are singing in the choir. I expect DS and DD will stay at home.

I am just hoping for a better year than last year where DS started vomiting at 6pm and didn’t stop until 2am following morning. Not a great Christmas.

Lookingforwardto2025 · 24/12/2025 07:29

DS and I currently snuggled up in bed. DH getting ready in the bathroom and GPIL asleep. Making mince pies and a crumble this morning. DH and GFIL will decorate the Christmas cake. Soup for lunch. DH will pick up BIL from the station and I will facetime my GPs. Then carol service this evening followed by dinner and a christmas tv show of some sort.

Am hoping to fit in a run somewhere.

Greatidea · 24/12/2025 07:31

I am alone at Christmas and not feeling physically very well because of an ongoing problem. My partner has misinterpreted this as something else and stormed off taking all his food with him and posting my door key and disabled badge through the letter box as a way of saying 'don't contact me again'.
My day will be spent relaxing in peace reading a Christmas book, watching the birds and squirrels outside and reflecting on the past year that I've had and how I can make next year a better one..
A happy New Year to you all, Merry Christmas and don't get too tired and stressed out with all of the food preparation - this is your Christmas holiday as well - make some time for yourself to actually enjoy it. xxxx

SecretWitch · 24/12/2025 07:32

Waiting for husband to return from his overnight shift. Currently drinking tea and listening to Christmas music. After a few hours of sleep we will go for hot chocolate and a drive. Dinner, movies and then off to bed ( not sure any sugarplums will be dancing though)

LoveRules · 24/12/2025 07:34

First Christmas as a married couple for us. Second together in our house. Last year we discovered that our respective Xmas traditions were WAY different and it didn’t go well for my side of the family (introverted autistic lot who favour a quiet drawn out gift giving all day ceremony) with 19 to dinner, chaotic tearing into presents and random additional friends popping by for drinks afterwards….
This year it is just us and offspring and my mum for lunch so ‘just’ the 9 of us.

I’m working today wfh and just have sticking gifts to wrap. Looking forward to having my frail elderly mum arrive as missed our wedding due to ill health and my son to be reunited with his twin and younger sibling here.

curry for tea tonight. Wishing all of you a peaceful and harmonious Christmas

HippyChickMama · 24/12/2025 07:38

Dh was up at 4:30 for his early shift at work, I got up at 6 and have had a coffee and cleaned the bathroom. Both dc (18 and 12) are asleep, ds is usually an early riser but he’s home after his first term at uni and has spent a huge amount of time sleeping. We’ll start the food prep shortly, then I need to do the litter trays, quick tidy up and hoover and mop. Dh is expecting to be home by midday, I’ve got one gift delivery to do and then we’ll have some soup for lunch before a quick visit to the village pub and back home for Christmas cake and a glass of mead and then a buffet tonight. I love Christmas Eve

Dee03 · 24/12/2025 07:39

I’m working until 5pm….other half will do some housework and prep the food for tomorrow.
Tonight we’ll order a chinese, as I do every Christmas Eve and enjoy a drink and a chilled evening.
All my kids are adults and this is the first year I won’t have any of my boys waking up at home (boys are mine, not my other half’s)…

SkinnyOatFlatWhiteForMePlease · 24/12/2025 07:39

I am the only one awake in our house, it’s lovely and quiet so enjoying a coffee in peace.

Farm shop, butcher and deli collections this morning with DH, we usually stop for a coffee on the way home.

Veg prep, last clean of the bathrooms and a run around with the hoover and we will be all set for DD, SIL and DGC arriving this afternoon.
We are all eating at a local restaurant tonight and it’s walking distance so we will have a glass of fizz before setting off.

Frlrlrubert · 24/12/2025 07:39

I’m not at my house (we’re spending with Christmas at DH’s family), I’m the only one awake, having barely slept due to dental pain. Saw the dentist yesterday and they said to carry on with salt rinses and over counter painkillers but I might call when they open and beg them to extract because the painkillers aren’t touching it and I feel like I’m single handedly ruining Christmas.

SparklingCrow · 24/12/2025 07:40

santiishot · 24/12/2025 06:55

Just getting ready for work as is the rest of the household. @SparklingCrowwhat’s a Christmas Eve Visit?

It’s seeing a few of our adult DC and DP’s grandchildren, dropping off a few presents, so that HOPEFULLY we can all do our own thing tomorrow for the first time ever in 13 years without the shitshow of a massive family get-together. (Whole other thread.)

If anyone is going to throw a bad-tempered aggressive tantrum with us then they can do it today. (Looking at you, 26 year old adult DSS 👀 )

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 24/12/2025 07:42

Me and DH both have today off work. DD was up at 7am overly excited for the last piece of her Playmobil advent calendar. Yesterday when I needed to be up early for work and taking DS to nursery no one else woke up so we were late in 🙄

DS and DH still fast asleep. I’ve just realised I’ve forgotten to get the chicken out to defrost for tomorrow’s dinner but need DH to sort that as he needs to move heavy things off the chest freezer and I’ve pulled my neck so can’t do it myself.

and I’ve forgotten to sort my mum’s presents so need to deal with that as a priority as she’s coming for Christmas dinner.

might go to the church Christingle service at 4, although the kids are saying they don’t want to go.

Mydogisagentleman · 24/12/2025 07:42

Been up for a couple of hours. So far have walked the dog, prepared lasagne so we can eat it this evening once I collect DD from the train station 40 miles away.
Off to work shortly until about 2.30.
Calling in at the vape shop on the way home.
Happy peaceful healthy greetings to all. Especially the person with the poorly dog

OddBalling · 24/12/2025 07:44

I am working from home for half a day today, husband is working the whole day in retail (pray for him). Son is currently playing a game in the living room while I stand in the kitchen drinking a coffee with the dog hovering about my feet. If I sit down I won't want to get up so this is a compromise.

After work, son and I are going to go for a big walk with the dog and try and offset all the lolling about we'll do tomorrow. It's just the three of us for tomorrow's Christmas dinner so not a big prep to do before then and food is all bought. I'm hoping to do some crafts later to keep us entertained for a bit.

I used to be a teacher so working today is a little odd but it'll be quiet on the work front so I'll just get ahead for the new year!

Wishing you all a lovely day whatever you are all doing ✨

MummyInTheNecropolis · 24/12/2025 07:44

I’m home alone as DD stayed at her boyfriends last night. Expecting her back this evening for our usual M&S buffet, which my mum will also join us for. In the meantime, I have a vegan dessert to make to bring to my sisters tomorrow, plus the homemade stuffing. I also still need to wrap DD’s presents. Not sure I have enough wrapping paper so may have to pop to the shops for some more. I will try to get out for a walk and will do some yoga at some point as well.
